nickthegreek··on Ask HN: How do you tune your personality to get better at interviews?
Really appreciate seeing comments like this on HN. You got me thinking about my own presence online. I decided to use gpt-5-thinking and perplexity's deep research with the same prompt to deep dive on my legal name, find aliases, research those aliases, etc. Then report on positive and negatives findings. Both did a good job and helped me feel a bit at ease. They both noticed that I worked at a place that later had a controversy and knew that I left prior to that but gave actionable ideas on how to answer questions around that during interviews or via linkedin. I think I might set up a perplexity task to run and email this once a month.

I'll probably one seperate ones for my own handles that are not attached to my name to monitor them as well. The panopticon never sleeps.

nickthegreek··on GPT-5 is a joke. Will it matter?
I do agree that this will be a big improvement for regular users. But this is a situation where it is trivial to have both. Give the power users complete model control via the selector. Let the default be Auto for normies.
nickthegreek··on Perplexity Makes Longshot $34.5B Offer for Chrome
i really enjoy perplexity. i recommend taking advantage of one of the o2 resale deals out there so that its like $7/yr instead of $240 and let the VCs eat the rest. I don’t know of any better ai access deals out there. It’s absurd and unsustainable.
nickthegreek··on M5 MacBook Pro No Longer Coming in 2025
There certainly can be. Reputation risk/being canceled, misinformation spreading, ethicial/legal issues depending on the topic, public opinion influence, authority problems, not understanding the community you are participating in, etc.
nickthegreek··on M5 MacBook Pro No Longer Coming in 2025
m4 laptop checks the boxes on ram options (albiet a high price) and battery life.

The m4 macbook is running AI slow compared too..... what competitive alternative?

I'm impressed at how fast gpt-oss-20b ran on my m2 24gb system.

nickthegreek··on The surprise deprecation of GPT-4o for ChatGPT consumers
If this type of thing really interests you and you want to go on a wild ride, check out season 2 of nathan fielders's The Rehearsal. You dont need to watch s1.
nickthegreek··on The surprise deprecation of GPT-4o for ChatGPT consumers
> Who is building apps relying on the ChatGPT frontend as a model provider? Apps would normally depend on the OpenAI API, where the models are still available, but GPT-5 is added and cheaper.

Always enjoy your comments dw, but on this one I disagree. Many non-technical people at my org use custom gpt's as "apps" to do some re-occuring tasks. Some of them have spent absurd time tweaking instructions and knowledge over and over. Also, when you create a custom gpt, you can specifically set the preferred model. This will no doubt change the behavior of those gpts.

Ideally at the enterprise level, our admins would have a longer sunset on these models via web/app interface to ensure no hiccups.

nickthegreek··on The Windows 10 emoji picker has been broken for a month
chatgpt does.
nickthegreek··on GPT-5
so many people at my work need it just switch. they just leave it on 4o. you can still set the model yourself if you want. but this will for sure improve the quality of output for my non technical workmates who are confused by model selection.
nickthegreek··on GPT-5: Key characteristics, pricing and system card
This new naming conventions, while not perfect are alot clearer and I am sure will help my coworkers.
nickthegreek··on Grok generates fake Taylor Swift nudes without being asked
Spicy mode wont generate nude men.
nickthegreek··on Grok generates fake Taylor Swift nudes without being asked
I believe only 10% of the output was to that level of "spice". Which makes me question the intent of the "spicy" setting, unless it is just separate a fool from his money.
nickthegreek··on Ask HN: Have you ever regretted open-sourcing something?
Can this work with a windows or nix system in the mix?
nickthegreek··on Perplexity is using stealth, undeclared crawlers to evade no-crawl directives
How is everyone having a personal shopper a problem of scale? I was going to shop myself, but I sent someone else to do it for me.

At this moment I am using Perplexity's Comet browser to take a spotify playlist and add all the tracks to my youtube music playlist. I love it.

nickthegreek··on “No tax on tips” is an industry plant

Plex does this as well.
nickthegreek··on Orion Browser
Safari wont let you easily set kagi as default search. Seems like something a major browser should allow.
nickthegreek··on Futurehome smart hub owners must pay new $117 subscription or lose access
many smart home products use different protocols than wifi. This means they will not be updated without your knowledge and cannot connect online themselves.
nickthegreek··on Ask HN: Why is "Tea" still on the App Store after so many data breaches?
Thats true of the first hack, the photos. But I dont believe that is true for the 2nd, the messages.
