netmau5··on Amazon CloudFront - Support For Dynamic Content
What are some good dedicated hosting options in US-east? I've tried looking them up but the info is usually buried deep in the hoster's site where it's impossible to find.
netmau5··on Got a million but what now
What are your other skills that might be useful to a startup? Want to grab coffee sometime?
netmau5··on Why One of Silicon Valley’s Savviest Investors Has Shut His Wallet
I'm in Bama too. We've got plenty of brilliant people but they can be difficult to find and usually aren't well-connected. Want to get coffee sometime?
netmau5··on Are You Peeing Enough?
It's really hard to tell what the right number is since there are so many variables involved. And you're right, water comes from other places too. The one thing that is certain is the 8 cups is definitely on the short side.
netmau5··on Dustin Moskovitz: Y Combinator’s “No Idea” Round Bad for Silicon Valley
Well we just started up without an idea. So my life is literally 100% about proving this guy wrong - or I starve.

There are more paths than your path Mr. Moskovitz.

netmau5··on Name your price for an Elevation Dock, help our startup
We'd like to think that by funding the original Kickstarter campaign at such a high level, we helped make it possible for the product to be made in the first place. I'm certain that the project's owner is still going to make money on our units too.
netmau5··on Name your price for an Elevation Dock, help our startup
Bummer, looks like the post got killed. Why?
netmau5··on Name your price for an Elevation Dock, help our startup
Thanks Mason. I was really torn on which point to emphasize.
netmau5··on Quora Co-Founders Share Numbers, The Secret Of Surviving The Hype Cycle
Where are the numbers? Who's upvoting this stuff? Here's a more fitting title: "Sarah fondly speaks on random Quora factoids overheard in a bar."
netmau5··on Pricing in reverse: use a product's price to figure out what you need to build
I've noticed if you lower your Max CPC bid, the Traffic Estimator will show that you get a lower click-through rate, but at a better price. Do they restrict your add to less competitive time frames to give you that better price? Does that then impact your conversion rate, or is a click a click?
netmau5··on Google Racing
Can we use this to bring ultimate defeat and ruin to Danica Patrick + GoDaddy?
netmau5··on "Lighten up"
I like to joke around and have a good time while doing serious work. This isnt some profound optimization technique, just something that makes my day happier and usually that of those around me. However, my general rule of thumb is to never directly engage a female at the workplace outside of a purely professional, subdued necessity. They are too sensitive. While I know I have good intentions and care for their happiness, not everyone has the same level of empathy. So I simply avoid getting grouped into the fratboy category even when I really do want them to just lighten up a bit. I personally find blanket invitations to after-work drinks to be a better environment to get more friendly with the ladies on the team, most will drop their shields a few notches.
netmau5··on #1: I'm Not a Designer, I Just Pretend to Be
My episodic spiral into entrepreneurship. Ironically I just finished a design for my Posterous blog when they announced the sale. /facepalm
netmau5··on Posterous acquired by Twitter
I guess it's too late to apply.
netmau5··on This Morning I Didn't Go To Work
Nope, just an unused bedroom in my home. There are two windows but the picture mostly clipped them.

I agree about sunlight. I've spent long hours working alone at night and you have to force yourself into human contact before quietly slipping into the blues.

netmau5··on This Morning I Didn't Go To Work
Thanks. My (still employed) partner and I are actually taking on small consulting projects right now just to make sure we have money coming in. We vehemently do not want to get into services, but it's hard to have a strategy without resources! At the very least, it gives him something constructive to do coding-wise while I'm pounding the pavement.
netmau5··on This Morning I Didn't Go To Work
There is a local incubator that I will apply for this summer if the time is right, but I am generally avoiding it until I think it makes sense. I know I wouldn't invest in anything without at least one paying customer, so I think it would be rude to try to hustle without one.
netmau5··on This Morning I Didn't Go To Work
Thanks, good luck to you too. Maybe we'll share some sweat sessions in the days to come.
netmau5··on This Morning I Didn't Go To Work
Thanks, I tried to bump it. I wish the themes on Posterous were as plentiful as Tumblr. Is there no demand for better themes?
netmau5··on This Morning I Didn't Go To Work
I'm going to dive into it more as I go, but I'm not trying to hide anything either. I just don't feel like it's that important until I can speak with more potential customers.

The niche I find attractive right now is consignment stores. I like the ethics of reuse, the market size and niche-ness, and feel like I can have a real impact in relation to the other software vendors in the space. On a grander scheme, the challenge of helping retail compete in a digital world is fascinating to me.

netmau5··on Why Do Some People Learn Faster?
It's great to see a formalized study validate some of my long-held beliefs. For me, the biggest drawback of being self-critical has been "what if I draw the wrong conclusion from this mistake?" Some people call it tenacity: to try again and again after failure. But I think it's paranoia. The thought that I learned and will now stand-by something completely wrong due to a flaw in reasoning is a frightening path towards ignorance.
netmau5··on Groupon manager attacks “slavedriver” CEO Daniel Glasner with two leaked emails
Don't work at Groupon.
netmau5··on How to travel around the world for a year.
This is a great marketing page for Nikon.
netmau5··on How Yoga Can Wreck Your Body
Trust yourself. In most forms of physical activity, if you are uncomfortable doing it, there is probably damage being done. But that doesn't mean damage isn't a good thing. In weight training, you purposely push yourself to the edge to break down your muscles and build them back stronger. The edge is an undecipherable gray for most novices so don't travel anywhere close without the advice of a trusted advisor. I learned that lesson the hard way when I first started lifting, "push as hard as I can to see the best results."

An experienced advisor makes all the difference in the world. Some things in life just never change: from startups to fitness, seek wisdom for great justice.

netmau5··on Regretsy Issue Resolution
Here's a suggestion to their Director of Communications: communicate with a smiling face. Perma-frowns only work on people purchasing stock trading bots or MiGs.
netmau5··on BankSimple invites first customers; rebrands itself as Simple
I really like what you guys are trying to do here, but you still haven't made it more appealing than getting frequent flyer miles on my credit card. I know you want to use the normal card fees to make some cash, but why do you need those + deposit interest?

My brick & mortar bank provides me with a free-to-use checking account w/debit card in exchange for the interest made off my deposits. My credit card, paid in full each month, provides the same free service with flyer miles. The value proposition of making my data easier to search and filter from the information already given to me at my current bank/CC websites doesn't do it for me.

Love what I've seen, but I hope you guys find a better value/price point.

netmau5··on Reasons to use Guava
The important algorithms are in the core library. This is a more friendly API to use both collections and operations on them. And while I love what Guava brings to the table, I do not agree with bringing API candy into base Java. When it comes to heavily used things like collections, this is obviously a gray area. My preference is that they obsolete the need for several of these things at the grammar-level with list/map syntax and [real] closures.
netmau5··on The Ugly Truth ("Ugly designs sell. Really well.")
what
netmau5··on Spotify now requires a Facebook account to sign up.
I once made a site that only allowed sign in via Twitter. That was a huge mistake. Do not segment potential users by login mechanism, more often than not you will raise the barrier of entry from potential to not.
netmau5··on Tech Jobs stays open for months, unemployment under 4%
I'm just waiting for salaries to reflect demand. I'm not moving from a small-town dev job to the Valley for a 15% pay jump and a huge cost-of-living increase.
