neoberg··on Ask HN: What is your fav “I can't believe in 2022 this still doesn't work right”
To your last point; because it should be a touch specific interface but it's abused as a checkbox on desktop by designers. Mobile app platforms have this natively but HTML is supposed to be platform independent.
neoberg··on iPad Pro M2
In the same way you can't treat a laptop as a drive and put files on there (transfer from another pc); because it's not a drive.
neoberg··on An unexpected revival of Firefox OS
A different generation of windows phones but I used HP Ipaq 514 back in the day and oh was it terrible to use.
neoberg··on Postgres WASM
> Can you substantiate this?

Since the topic is WASM here; here is the webassembly working group: https://www.w3.org/groups/wg/wasm/participants

15 Google, 7 Microsoft and rest are 1-2 seats max.

WebRTC https://www.w3.org/groups/wg/webrtc/participants

22 Google, 12 Microsoft, 7 Mozilla, rest are 1-2 seats max

Web Performance https://www.w3.org/groups/wg/webperf/participants

32 Google, 10 Meta

And the situation is similar in most groups: https://www.w3.org/groups/wg/

I agree that making the web work better is good for Google. But making the web good and advertiser friendly even at the cost of users and their privacy is better for them.

neoberg··on Postgres WASM
In almost every standards working group Google holds the most seats. It'd be naive to say that those in the groups are working only and only for the common good and don't pursue their employer's interests.
neoberg··on Feel the power of the Manifest v3
I want to use Firefox but it drains the battery so fast that there's usually no time left to use it.
neoberg··on RootMyTV is a user-friendly exploit for rooting/jailbreaking LG webOS smart TVs
I mean I definitely have the skills to do these and have done it before. I even have my gaming pc connected to the tv all the time. But I don't want to fiddle with and maintain this setup for video consumption. I just want to turn on my TV, run the Netflix app and have dolby vision 4k video playing without issues.

I don't have any data but I feel like most people (technical or not) are thinking the same as me.

neoberg··on We Need New Motherboards Before GPUs Collapse Under Their Own Gravity
What if gpu was the motherboard instead?
neoberg··on Google removed our website from search because it uses YouTube-dl
What am I coping hard for really? I am all for using WASM where it makes sense. This still doesn't change the reality that all of that is possible with JavaScript. It's also still 100% true that WASM adds 0 extra capabilites.

And Figma could be a 20B buyout without WASM. I don't see any relevancy about valuation and a specific tech choice. Figma's editor is a very good use case for WASM -especially since they have the right people in the team- but there are other ways to achieve the same thing (even just by using JS).

neoberg··on Google removed our website from search because it uses YouTube-dl
Not really. WASM doesn't add any extra capabilities in the browser or Electron environments.
neoberg··on Google removed our website from search because it uses YouTube-dl
No because youtube-dl requires a connection that is not limited by CORS.
neoberg··on Penpot: Open-source design and prototyping platform
They seem to be working as a company. Does anyone know what their business model is? I'm interested in contributing but I want to know this before I do.
neoberg··on Factorio is coming to Nintendo Switch
Found the time traveler.
neoberg··on Estonia’s inflation hit 25% year-on-year in August, energy prices to blame
> What should we do if Russia attacks Finland tomorrow?

I'm not saying this is what we should do but it's what will happen probably: Freeze Nato accession, send guns, helmets etc. Basically whatever happened to Ukraine.

neoberg··on Quantifying GitHub Copilot’s impact on developer productivity and happiness
It produces very good results with typescript. When there is an interface and I'm creating an object that implements the interface; it produces a result that fits into that type.
neoberg··on GoDaddy Statement on Eth.link Domain Registration
> owner incapacitated

Owner deliberately created a bus factor issue and decided to violate sanctions against North Korea.

neoberg··on I spent a year designing a low profile, minimal mechanical keyboard
I have 3 keys per thumb in my current keyboard. And the rest is 3 rows to 5 columns per hand.
neoberg··on I spent a year designing a low profile, minimal mechanical keyboard
Yep, everyone is different indeed. I've been using 30% keyboards (30, 33 or 36 keys) for 3+ years now. I used 40's for around 2 years before that. Now I can't stand any keyboard that requires my hands to move from the home position. Also being able to carry my keyboard to anywhere is a big plus for me.
neoberg··on Tell HN: After 10 years of experiments, custom username emails receive no spam
It's a violation because you have to get explicit permission for each and every way of communication. So giving permission to be contacted through a single email address doesn't mean you gave permission for the phone or in this case another email address.
neoberg··on CandyCodes: Simple unique edible identifiers for authenticating pharmaceuticals
Let's make it a subscription(dollar a pill?) so it doesn't spit out the pill if it can't charge your card. Even better.
neoberg··on Parallelz raises $3M to instantly run mobile apps and game in a browser
What do they do exactly?
neoberg··on GitHub Copilot is generally available
For me; I would happily pay 50$ a month. It probably saves me at least 10$ worth of time every day.
neoberg··on We need a flowchart editor that doesn't give you carpal tunnel
Because they are not always generated.
neoberg··on Coinbase Announces 18% Layoffs
No. In many places the law and the contract states that the company has to provide the required means to do work described in the contract. If they change the job description to "do nothing" then it needs unilateral signing of a amendment to the contract. (And that can count as mobbing.)
neoberg··on Electric vehicle battery capable of 98% charge in less than ten minutes
The second point is a big issue in pretty much anywhere outside of the US. Living in houses with a private garage is not that common.
neoberg··on Electric vehicle battery capable of 98% charge in less than ten minutes
But then we need to wait for the charging station to charge. How many of those batteries would a charging station need to ensure continuous service?
neoberg··on Photos of chickens, taken by chickens
Oh I see thank you. I was hoping for a more generic solution that I can use with a device that is not a camera.
neoberg··on Photos of chickens, taken by chickens
If the author reads this: How does the downloading images from SD card part work?
neoberg··on Kagi search and Orion browser enter public beta
For some reason it is a hit or miss for me. Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.
neoberg··on Ask HN: Why the web lately is all about JavaScript?
Yes, and I think Solid and Svelte's approaches of moving complexity out of runtime and into build time will be the most popular one very soon. But this also comes with its downsides. It complicates the build process, obviously. Debugging is harder since what you code is not what is being run at all. And they usually come with some catches like "if you use this javascript thing, your reactivity will break" kinda stuff - at least for now, but I think it can and will be solved.

The gist is; there are options and there are tradeoffs.
