I had the same experience just about. I was pretty social in my 20s but also spent many many days writing code for ~15 hours. Now, at 33, I would much rather do things away from my computer such as working out, going for a walk, kayaking, etc. and spending time with my girlfriend and close friends.
Not surprised. Lyft really failed to keep up over the past couple years and just year-to-date their stock price is down almost 70%. A lot of talk about companies laying off just to lay off, but if one company really needed it, it's Lyft.
I had a configuration exactly like this via HomeAssistant. Set the trigger when the power output spiked above X and sent a notification when it eventually dipped back below X for Y amount of time.
Unfortunately I could not find a plug suitable for the dryer, but for the washer it was great. I eventually decided to decommission the majority of my smart home accessories and HomeAssistant entirely.
In my area, they offered such a class as a technical program that high school students could attend off-site at the technical school which also had classes like cooking and childcare.
This is untrue. Yes there are specialized tools, even some per manufacturer, but in reality 95% of the jobs people will be doing can be done with a standard mechanics toolset.
> Governments will have to ponder about what to do with a world of people who became inferior to machines at almost everything. Universal Basic Income?
It seems like they are just taking advantage of the climate. All of these companies are going to be "trimming the fat" while the news cycle is used to this category of headline.
Does emails count as "in writing" - I have emails from the CEO that I will be paid out in July (after being told I'd be paid out in April) but nothing is signed, etc.
Because, as you said, it's a shitty thing to do. I have the skills, experience, and finances to find a job where we can have a mutually beneficial relationship without trying to pull one over on them.
Luckily I am based in the US, but I am unable to travel (for personal reasons) which is also an interview dead-end for a lot of companies that want you to come spend a week for initiation and meet up a few times a year.
Unfortunately for me, I was a remote worker already (worked there for a month shy of 6 years). Hopefully, my position (React/Node FS Dev) is in high enough demand after all this to resume working remotely with a comfortable salary. I've already had offers for remote but they require me to relocate after the pandemic is over, which is really clogging up the job boards.
