nathanvanfleet··on Bill Watterson’s refusal to license Calvin and Hobbes (2016)
It generally irks me when I hear about someone who tried to get famous in about 5 distinctly different categories before they actually became famous. It seems like that is just not looked down upon enough. I was reading about how Blippi was apparently a Jackass like videos where he shit on his naked friend in a Harlem Shake video. It really tells you what he's after and it informs you about his goals. And when Blippi came out with his own NFTs it made sense because you know what he's out for.
nathanvanfleet··on Unity is acquiring a company who made a malware installer
So you think it's unfounded to assume that them merging with a malware company means they will start installing malware somehow? I think there would be _no other reason_ to merge with a company that makes malware? Maybe it won't target devs, but the concern is no unfounded.

nathanvanfleet··on A $3B Silk Road seizure will erase Ross Ulbricht’s debt
We all remember he was trying to get a handful of people assassinated right?
nathanvanfleet··on The dark side of Shopify
I think their plan is to not acknowledge it so it doesn't blow up any further. Fix the problem and let this person tell their story until they run out of steam.
nathanvanfleet··on Elon’s Out
Why do you think it's mutual when Twitter is suing him for backing out?
nathanvanfleet··on Ethereum Energy Consumption
People working on crypto also drive around and do things? Which would make the crypto numbers equally larger. It would presumably take as many humans to run a kind of crypto-Visa as it would take to run regular Visa. Crypto isn't somehow automating some human-intensive activity. The big numbers on crypto is just the algo costs. So your whole argument is kind of terrible?
nathanvanfleet··on Goldman Raising $2B to Buy Distressed Celsius Assets
That must be why violent acts never happen. Go figure.
nathanvanfleet··on At the Bored Ape restaurant, your ApeCoin is no good now
The only way this scales is that there are tens of thousands of "character" all of which are extremely similar, generated on a template and randomly arranged. None of them seem particularly iconic though I understand that certain hats etc are rarer than others. But none of them stand out as any sort of personality. So if you were to say try to make your own Bored ape restaurant a block away are you really standing out because _your_ ape has a nose ring?
nathanvanfleet··on Construction is life
You become a nimby. Everything is an assault to you and can just have to constantly fight.

nathanvanfleet··on Fine dining faces its dark truths in Copenhagen
Isn't this exactly what Anthony Bourdain wrote about in the 80's and 90's?
nathanvanfleet··on One Job, One Pay – Globally
Are you pretending that information asymmetry or exploiting people because of their situation isn't an ethical problem?
nathanvanfleet··on Uber and Lyft’s new road: Fewer drivers, thrifty riders and jittery investors
Surely you don't think a modern and complex app requires just a single API endpoint that triggers once a minute? And that it's that simple a thing for the driver/ passenger?
nathanvanfleet··on Apple Shipped Me a 79-Pound iPhone Repair Kit to Fix a 1.1-Ounce Battery
This reminds me of the people who laughed at the iPhone because the Blackberry had a real keyboard and was the true professional device. Saying you'll pay for something that probably doesn't have many people behind it is not really going to move mountains. Most people care about this sort of stuff for about a minute when their phone breaks which is something like once every few years max.
nathanvanfleet··on $3B in Bitcoin was sold in a last-ditch attempt to save UST from collapse
"Dry" in what way exactly? It seemed rather wet with the enormous amount of loss?
nathanvanfleet··on Luna Cryptocurrency Collapse: How UST Broke
This is exactly like how I will go to my doctor when I feel sick. But I'll also drink my own urine to cure myself. It's important to have a little bit of a mix.
nathanvanfleet··on Ask HN: Is anyone else glad the crypto market is crashing?
"Who still think it's a useful concept"

Narrator: It wasn't

nathanvanfleet··on OP-1 field
I feel like I have also seen this in the espresso community. Companies sprung up that are address a boutique audience that ultimately seems to be best-in-class but also charge some astronomical prices.
nathanvanfleet··on When buying the dip doesn’t work: An analysis of the dot-com crash
Sad to think that investing in the stock market, which I have only been able to financially over the last 5 years might have been much riskier than I might have previously thought. What I previously thought as "okay I just leave it in the stock market for a bit of time to recoup" is something I am now realizing would likely have to be 10+ years.

It's kind of funny because I was getting shaky about having money in the stock market back in December, and I held onto investing some of my money there. But I ultimately relented 4 months later to lose 10% within about two weeks (and after just index funds). Now it's much worse, and I guess I'll just leave it all there.

And in 15 years I'll be back to where I was when I originally invested it.

nathanvanfleet··on Apple's director of machine learning resigns due to return to office work
The implication I thought was that his credits might have ended in 2014
nathanvanfleet··on Faecal transplants reverse hallmarks of ageing
lactobacillus reuteri? I can't find the specific one you're saying but I found one on amazon that was the one single strain of lactobacillus reuteri for $50. No it looks like you were correct at least that it exists.
nathanvanfleet··on TX-6 – Teenage Engineering
Not really a valid argument. Plenty of similar products out there with more competitive prices. "Make this complex product yourself" is the equivalent argument as "if you don't like something with your country just leave." People can complain that something is expensive.
nathanvanfleet··on TX-6 – Teenage Engineering
lol
nathanvanfleet··on A man bought a cruise ship on Craigslist
There was an interesting old ferry that had been repurposed for sale on Facebook market place I saw for a million or so. It was parked in Alameda. Seemed kind of interesting but I did worry about the logistics, especially seeing its engines that was the size of my current apartment.
nathanvanfleet··on IRS details strategy for replacing its most ancient computer code (2020)
Making a really strong argument here.
nathanvanfleet··on Twitter is adding an edit button
I think the problem with Twitter is that it's built around retweets and response tweets. But if the thing you are responding to upstream can change it creates an issue where something can change after it's been broadcast and retweeted all over the place.
nathanvanfleet··on Elon Musk to join Twitter’s board of directors
You must own NFTs it sounds like you really buy into hype. People just say they are Jesus Christ come to earth and you just go "Well yeah okay that's amazing"
