nasredin··on Some Amazon Reviews Are Too Good to Be Believed – They're Paid For
Thanks.

I had no idea there's a full scale electronic war on the streets of my city.

nasredin··on Some Amazon Reviews Are Too Good to Be Believed – They're Paid For
Shouldn't it be around 49%?

Or is it just bumped up due to an old electoral algorithm Amazon uses?

Hmmm...

nasredin··on Some Amazon Reviews Are Too Good to Be Believed – They're Paid For
Just wait untill these Chinese firms master naming their brands with English sounding names.

That and the thousands of "very good product!" fake reviews, you will not be able to find a non-plasticy, built-to-last product on Amazon at all.

And the fun will continue when you discover the warranty requires you shipping items to PRC, if it's honored at all.

nasredin··on Security Begins at the Home Router
Can you download hosts lists, block ads and serve 1*1 pixel image instead of ads with your EdgeRouter?
nasredin··on BitTorrent Is Now Part of TRON
If both of these firms (I have no idea what TRON does) disappear tommorrow, would anyone notice?
nasredin··on MH370 Was ‘Manipulated’ Off Course to Its End, Report Says
IIRC the planes now ping the satellite every 15 (or 5?) minutes instead of 60.

So hopefuly the next time this happens the search area would be smaller.

nasredin··on How Britain beat the odds to achieve space flight, and then abandoned it
The British have been annoying the French for at least a millennia.

nasredin··on Visualizing the Hidden ‘Logic’ of Cities
>whereas driving around from point A to point B in e.g. L.A. is a no-brainer.

... in theory.

Now getting around Manhattan is truly a no brainer!

nasredin··on Germany's forest fires come with an explosive twist: WWII munitions
IIRC the US is mostly compliant with the treaties (without actually signing them) - there's a man in the loop, mines self disarm, etc.

At least with the newer mines.

Could be wrong though.

nasredin··on Germany's forest fires come with an explosive twist: WWII munitions
Related.

There's actually not a lot of primary sources on the reticles used in German armour.

So developers of some of these WWII "realistc" shooters have to design new ones.

I would guess there's better documentation of mines and bombs.

nasredin··on Germany's forest fires come with an explosive twist: WWII munitions
We have nukes in California. Nuking fires might be worth a try.
nasredin··on Putting the “crow” in necrophilia
>>That said, in nearly a quarter of cases, crows did make some kind of contact with dead crows. Like with mammals, we saw that these behavior could be exploratory, aggressive and in rare cases even sexual (about 4% of crow presentations resulted in attempted copulations), with the latter two behaviors being biased towards the beginning of the breeding season. Importantly, the latter two categories of interactions were rarely expressed independently, and it was often a mixture of the first two; in rare cases, all three. In the most dramatic examples, a crow would approach the dead crow while alarm calling, copulate with it, be joined in the sexual frenzy by its presumed mate, and then rip it into absolute shreds.

Do the TSA screeners get training on identifying drugs?
nasredin··on TSA is tracking regular travelers like terrorists in secret surveillance program
Your physical stature may (wrongly) come into this.

If you are a young male with a beard... skin colour wouldn't matter much. You are gonna get groped.

nasredin··on Vulnerability in Hangouts Chat: how Electron makes open redirect great again
IMO if it's uneelated to actual politics it just comes accross as lazy and stupid.
nasredin··on An update on uBlock
IME DNS based blocking on the router works great.

And yes, you do need a software rule based blocker to supplement IP blocking.

Most ads come from a few sources, that's why hosts based blocking has been effective since 2000s.

nasredin··on An update on uBlock
Nope.

Ublock & umatrix still don't block autoplaying videos. You should still use NoScript.

IMHO if you push small cosmetic changes in the UI in every update, like Gorhill does, there's a problem.

He has a poor attitide IMHO.

nasredin··on Ask HN: My Microsoft account has been suspended by Microsoft without details
One definetely must use HTTPS as opposed to HTTP when teledildonicing.

Yep. Same thing happened here.

nasredin··on The death of a TLD

nasredin··on Address Verification and Full PGP Support
Correct.

When I signed up for the free tier nowhere did it say you can't forward your mail or access ot via IMAP or POP3.

A bit misleading IMHO.

Natural selection is very cruel.

But humans are still dead set on trying to beat it...

nasredin··on Vulvodynia: the excruciating health condition that only affects women
Crappy article.

>>The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology defines vulvodynia as vulva pain that lasts three months or longer and is not caused by an infection, skin disorder or other medical issue; the condition can come on suddenly or slowly progress with time.

nasredin··on Twitter shares drop after reporting declining monthly active users
>>People mentioned it can come back after a couple months, you'd notice quickly as your feed quality would suck, you just redo the same.

Don't you feel like a rat in an experiment?

What's the point of this if you don't even own the controls to the software?

Rhetorical questions.

Ahhh, maybe don't give out your phone number to Google and their ilk?

Bonus: a FU to warrantless NSA metadata spying.

nasredin··on US breaks up IRS phone scam operation
Pro tip for you: you can "port" out your number to your cellular provider.

Zero spam for me for a long time. Yes, zero!

Also see the T Mobile spam service. There's two you have to turn on IIRC.

YouMail for voicemail is good too.

nasredin··on Journey on the Trans-Siberian: St Petersburg
IME it's not weakness. People just don't smile without a reason. And meeting or talking to a stranger is not a proper reason.

>>The virile ruler, the vodka, the endless mounds of sour cream—they are pleasing to some. It’s just that grinning without cause is not a skill Russians possess or feel compelled to cultivate. There’s even a Russian proverb that translates, roughly, to “laughing for no reason is a sign of stupidity"

ICYMI this is an Electron app called MicroPad, stylized with the macro symbol of course.

Size: ~67 MB.

Don't know whether to laugh or cry.
