nashequilibrium··on NBA Bans Clippers Owner for Life
"Stripping an owner of his team requires approval of three-quarters of the league’s owners." Time will tell if they go all the way.
nashequilibrium··on Julie Ann Horvath names harassers
Why are you not brave enough to use your normal HN account, why hide?
nashequilibrium··on Ask HN: How to promote social startup?
make it useful first, social second.
nashequilibrium··on What every founder fears
What i cannot understand is why the co-founders wife is so involved with the company when she is not an employee there? I would find this very awkward, does anyone know why she is so involved with Github, is there any other ceo's with this precident?
nashequilibrium··on PourOver: A library for simple, fast filtering and sorting in the browser
If you going to handle that many obejcts in the browser wouldn't you use something like pouchdb? http://pouchdb.com/

Also "Pagination strategies with PouchDB" http://pouchdb.com/2014/04/14/pagination-strategies-with-pou...

nashequilibrium··on AngelList’s Newest Experiment: a $25M Fund to Invest in Angel Investors
Okay, now this is becoming like the hedge fund industry of 2008, first there was hedge funds, then fund of hedge funds, then fund of funds!
nashequilibrium··on Ask HN: CTO wants me to leave
Is this not like you build a house, hire someone to live with you since they can build/extend this house even bigger, then they tell you to get out of your own house? I still don't understand how someone he hired can throw him out of his company?
nashequilibrium··on Ask HN: CTO wants me to leave
I really don't understand this story, most tech entrepreneurs with successful companies have to hire people better than them, mark zuckerberg, jack dorsey(especially the twitter guys), snapchat etc. You 2 guys are the founders and hired a CTO and the CTO is telling you to leave, imagine the CTO of snapchat telling Evan Spiegal who cannot code to leave, it just doesn't add up.

If i had to guess, your cofounder who is the business guy realizes that the CTO is a better coder than you and is trying to push you out and offer the CTO a better share of the company. You really need to stand up for yourself, do not limit yourself or feel inferior, i mean even Larry and Sergey had to get better programmers than them.

nashequilibrium··on AeroMobil: Flying car
lol, i just tweeted this, we were not expecting a car-aeroplane.
nashequilibrium··on Brendan Eich Steps Down as Mozilla CEO
Political views are about allocating scarce resources when confronted with unlimited wants and needs. The act of paying to deny a group of people basic rights that all other groups enjoy is an act of discrimination. Now, a company is a corporate entity that has a brand identity, which it continuously communicates to its audience and the message that Mozilla's sends out is in total contradiction to Brendan Eich's actions.

When the message the Ceo sends out grabs more attention and is detrimental to the corporate identity of a company, then it is time to part ways, as this will manifest into a huge consumer base loss. Why? Because consumers align themselves even stronger with corporations that push charity, tolerance and freedom as their main identity like Tom's shoes. The biggest sin a company can do in a highly competitive market is to alienate their most vocal consumer base, where they no longer see their principles reflected in the company's identity. Mozilla is now bigger than Brendan Eich.

nashequilibrium··on Ephemeral Apps
SnapChat's share of voice has fell off the face of the earth, from a branding perspective it is scary. We don't know their user numbers but the buzz has fell flat and the uncool whatsapp just increased their userbase after the facebook deal. I would be scared as an investor if i invested at a billion dollar valuation, since we are not seeing that stable share of voice instagram had. Maybe its a result of bad engineering like Friendster but who knows, they have enough ,money to hire good engineers especially security specialist but their CEO seems to be a bit immature.
nashequilibrium··on The Newsweek Credibility Matrix
This right here is the problem with HackerNews, everyone is making CRUD apps but then they want to comment on what is genius & what is not. What is even funnier is that most people here can't even complete their side projects or main projects/MVPs etc, but want to trivialize bitcoin.
nashequilibrium··on Did Malaysian Airlines 370 disappear using SIA68/SQ68 (another 777)?
It doesn't make any sense to kill 240 people, including babies and kids. Especially if this is a terrorist act, they could not religiously justify that, especially since these are mainly Chinese people rather than American.
nashequilibrium··on MH370 flew as low as 1,500m to avoid detection, says paper
After all this, what do you do with about 240 people including 2 infants?
nashequilibrium··on Squirt.io – Readability Meets Spritz Speed Reading
How is it going to that, serious question?
nashequilibrium··on Squirt.io – Readability Meets Spritz Speed Reading
HN always likes the faster is better, I am a genius absorbing this much information quicker than you. Its been proven over and over that comprehension is way more important than speed of consumption. You guys fool yourselves into believing you can comprehend while reading at breakneck speeds, its way more fun & time saving to be able to imagine, driftaway in thought and understand what you are reading.
nashequilibrium··on What is a Web Framework?
yes, but then you hire a specialist at building ovens and tailor it to your bread.
nashequilibrium··on Ask HN: Is $100k for 50% just a terrible idea?
The fact that they want 50% off the bat should tell you something already, don't walk run away! I am really surprised that the people running this would actually put the pics & bios on the about page. This is daylight robbery and shameful. If i had to give half my company away for 100k at inception i rather not start it because you are going to need follow on financing. YC only takes like 6 or 7% and is way more prestigious.
nashequilibrium··on The Startup Accelerator That Wants Founders to Move to Africa
If ever there was a top comment done in one line it's this. Also, let's remember that Elon Musk, Mark Shuttleworth, Roelof Botha are from South Africa.
nashequilibrium··on The Startup Accelerator That Wants Founders to Move to Africa
and goes dramatically further in Nairobi than Cape Town, especially with hollywood buying up a lot of land there a few yrs ago. Also, you will not be developing for smartphones, but for blackberry's, old nokia's & samsungs.

PS: Africa is not a country, very different situation in each country. So lets stop saying Africa and talk about specific countries because talking about Morocco & Namibia or Egypt & South Africa as the same is just silly.

nashequilibrium··on Building a Decision Tree in Python from Postgres data
What do think of using HDF5? You can also store pandas tables in them.
nashequilibrium··on Strange Loop 2013 Video Schedule
Thanks, i love these, i stumbled upon some vids from 2012 or 2011 and really enjoyed them!
nashequilibrium··on Saying goodbye to Python
Doesn't it really just depend on what you focusing on and choosing the best language for that. I prefer python, but have written a lot of objective c, i created a search engine and ended up using lucene, nutch, opennlp and a few other Java programs and i really liked working with java and it seems like the Apache projects are really cool for big data projects. I also enjoyed javascript when i used it to create an api for an ios app but since i spend most of my time doing machine learning now, python is where the datascience community is and i love the opensource tools they create like ipython notebook, pandas, scikits, etc... So i just never get the staunch stance people take over languages but maybe its about being a "master" in a language and i am definitely not anyway near being a master in python.
nashequilibrium··on Pycoder's Weekly Redesigned
I am subscribed to both, its a weekly news letter so not much overhead, they are both good and do cover separate stuff as well as overlap. The best thing i have done is get weekly newsletters like postgres weekly, nosql weekly, javascript drips, datascienceweekly as i dont visit news sites during the week, just the weekends. The only thing i have struggled with is HN but i made a promise that when i hit 2000 Karma, i am out will switch to weekly. Today i hit 2001 so i guess thats it!
nashequilibrium··on Mayer Is Aiming to Bring Back Search Tech to Yahoo
If you click on the notice, the links are right there. This is what I do when I see it in the google search results.
nashequilibrium··on Ask HN: What journals and blogs should I be reading to become a data scientist?
Follow the link below, there is like 24hrs of lectures, including materials, code etc. These lectures cover reading data, saving data, cleaning & reshaping, visualization, stats, 8hrs machine learning in scikit learn, version control & unit testing, geospatial analyses. This is all in python using numpy, scipy, ipython, pandas and scikit learn as the base tools. You will love the ipython notebook! https://conference.scipy.org/scipy2013/tutorials_schedule.ph...
nashequilibrium··on Box has secretly filed for an IPO
You just need to look at the state of thing now and how everything has being going for the last year, clearly Dropbox has all the momentum and usability. How many conferences have you seen Box's ceo at, that guy is at every conference and Box is supposed to be a startup. Box was the first cloud service i used, then moved onto Dropbox because the usability was just amazing. I also think Dropbox may have better engineering talent because the syncing works so much better than ubuntu one, drive and box.
nashequilibrium··on Machine Learning in JavaScript
You need the love of the data science community and they have settled on python, and when they really want to scale they use Java. I noticed Julia becoming very popular and the twitter guys use scala for their stuff.
nashequilibrium··on Machine Learning in JavaScript
Nodejs is for i/o, i know it has workarounds for long running tasks(threadpool) but it does not excell at that. Training your model, updating your model, validation, matrix factorization on large datasets etc, i just don't see how Javascript helps here. Maybe just taking the http request and dumping it onto a rabbitmq queue to to classify something but you still have a whole host of other stuff to deal with.
nashequilibrium··on Google to Buy Artificial Intelligence Startup DeepMind for $400M
So Deepmind $400M but Snapchat $4Billion? So Google thinks Snapchat is more important?
