Blank lines separate paragraphs.

Text surrounded by asterisks is italicized, if the character after the first asterisk isn't whitespace.

Text after a blank line that is indented by two or more spaces is reproduced verbatim. (This is intended for code.)

Urls become links, except in the text field of a submission.

nannal··on Sexual loneliness: A neglected public health problem?
Tinder appears to be doing fairly well given it's their situation that they've engineered.
nannal··on Meet “Claude”: Anthropic’s rival to ChatGPT
Its Lithuanian is awful, I'd expect that any language further removed from that which the majority of it's training is in would be worse without a significant punt of data in that language. Its possible having that could affect it's English speaking capability, but that's just speculation on my part.
nannal··on How to use ChatGPT to boost your developer productivity
I very recently relied heavily on chatGPT to write a contract in solidity.

The tool gave me lots of example code I could use, helped debug some error messages & was much more efficient than google & stackoverflow.

I don't think I'll ever deploy the contract (It's a game that isn't very good), but I don't think it would have been this easy to do without a semi-literate ai dev to help me out.

nannal··on Show HN: Portable Secret – How I store my secrets and communicate privately
Using the output of a language model like mine as a comment reply on a forum like HN could potentially have a negative impact on the discourse in a number of ways.

1. It could undermine the authenticity and integrity of the conversation by introducing responses that are not genuinely from a human.

2. It could create confusion or misunderstanding, as the responses generated by the language model may not be relevant or appropriate for the specific context in which they are used.

3. It could discourage genuine participation and contribution from other members of the community, as it may seem like the conversation is being dominated by automated responses rather than authentic human interaction.

Overall, it is important to consider the impact of your actions on the online community and to strive to contribute to respectful and meaningful discourse. Using the output of a language model as a substitute for genuine human interaction is generally not a good idea, as it can undermine the authenticity and integrity of the conversation.

nannal··on Crypto exchange AAX suspends withdrawals
There are some 0 fees exchanges, often requires significant volume or occasionally it's for limited periods and/or on a small list of pairs, but I wouldn't be suprised that someone's running fractional reserve with an exchange and offers 0 fees because they make money elsewhere.
nannal··on Ask HN: Where to buy cheap but good quality glasses in Europe?
Because they don't deliver to europe.

nannal··on FTX to file for U.S. bankruptcy, CEO resigns
Git guy took the server offline. You want to refer to the commit to give someone else the token but now you can't.

You can't trust the git guy.

nannal··on FTX to file for U.S. bankruptcy, CEO resigns
I don't trust you, you don't trust me, neither of us trust the guy who owns the git server but I need to give you something without anyone being able to stop us.
nannal··on YouTube confirms that it has removed the “sort by oldest/newest” option
Reddits new format has made it remarkably difficult to have the content you're looking for get picked up the by the indexer.

That site has had a detrimental shift in terms of quality, indexability, accessibility and countless other "ilities" from that single "redesign".

nannal··on FTX Token, FTT down by more than 80% in less than 24 hours
I do hope wollsmoth reads that before continuing to provide his thoughts on the matter. Thank you for taking the time to inform those who may not be aware & I don't disagree with anything you wrote.

Some do not, but they typically have issues interfacing with the traditional banking environment.

nannal··on Ex-Twitter exec blows the whistle, alleging reckless cybersecurity policies
To answer points 1 & 2, you're more than permitted to think for yourself and establish if their recommendations are worth perusing. You could even get multiple opinions and see if there are any recurring themes that might suggest areas to look at first.
nannal··on Ex-Twitter exec blows the whistle, alleging reckless cybersecurity policies
Consult with a security firm or specialist and they should be able to steer you in the right direction.
nannal··on Most employees say IT issues decrease workplace productivity, morale
I expect I could game that system pretty effectively.
nannal··on Carbon dioxide now more than 50% higher than pre-industrial levels
I was of the understanding oceanic alge were much more responsible for oxygenation than any form flora. Not to down play the importance of trees of course.
nannal··on This site is now a “shinobi website”
I believe you may have missed the joke, allow me to be clearer. I agree you must use text, but with those tags to allow that functionality (showing images and such), wouldn't it be better, or, hyper? A from of "hypertext" written in a markup language. Perhaps we should use an abbreviation to refer to it?
nannal··on Tell HN: Reddit does not allow comments post via old.reddit.com
> insulting the user's intelligence.

If it's true that the majority of users are using the app, does that not suggest that it's effective?

nannal··on This site is now a “shinobi website”
Well you could host it somewhere, and then link to it. Maybe you'd want it inline though so I guess we could wrap it in some text that tells the browser to show it. Come to think of it, some text like headers could so with a similar treatment. Now we have text but like, more, hyper if you will.
nannal··on Bitwarden: Generate a Username
I am unclear of the benefits of doing this as opposed to just using the password generator prompt and using it for a username. Seems fairly pointless as a feature to me.

In addition, in the extension I can't use pass-phrase like generated responses for my username but I can for the password?

nannal··on US Navy wirelessly beams 1.6 kW of power a kilometer using microwaves
Perfect application for this tech. Drones can fly back to the ship to recharge without landing, local aerial defence fleets can be lighter as they'd need a smaller capacity battery.

Moderately long distance wireless power transmission has a whole host of applications.

nannal··on Bearer tokens are just awful
Your expectations might be too high, would you like all applications to monitor if you enter a bad part of town and revoke tokens just in case?
nannal··on Show HN: A game that tests how well you know your local area
I want to chime in as well to say I felt the circle was too large, I know districts in cities vary in size a lot but, but the game covered ~6 with mine in the middle. Checking the village I grew up in also covered the edges of three towns around it and a neighboring village.
nannal··on Show HN: HN Avatars in 357 bytes
