namanyayg··on Turtletoy
LOGO and Dangerous Dave were my childhood. I never was able to complete DAVE :(

(This was around 2005 for me!)

namanyayg··on 10 years of writing a blog nobody reads
Typographical fun fact: An em-dash is approximately the width of the letter "M", and an en-dash is the width of a lowercase n!

The latter is barely used, but is the right way to indicate dates like 2023-25.

The more you know!

namanyayg··on 10 years of writing a blog nobody reads
It's a terrible side effect of AI that regular people using em dashes in honest writing are labelled as AI.

I have a deep love for em and en dashes--you can see heavy usage in my writing that's 10 years older than chatgpt.

My love for the dashes hasn't gone, but now I use a double dash instead so I am not immediately labelled as an AI.

namanyayg··on Comic Code Reviews
Interesting idea but unfortunately the given example comic makes very little sense.

It was difficult to parse even as someone who's familiar with these concepts, and I think it will hurt more than help any newbies.

namanyayg··on What OpenAI did when ChatGPT users lost touch with reality
Good call. I stand corrected: this is a human written comment masquerading as AI, enough so that I fell for it at my initial quick glance.

Excellent satire!

namanyayg··on What OpenAI did when ChatGPT users lost touch with reality
Is this clearly AI-generated comment part of the joke?
namanyayg··on Neopets.com changed my life (2019)
Remind me of how immersive advertising worked in neopets?
namanyayg··on Neopets.com changed my life (2019)
Similar technologies have been built and reinvented over and over again.

There is a critical mass of users needed to make this "social network", and turns out (big surprise) most people don't want or care about this technology.

namanyayg··on Fran Sans – font inspired by San Francisco light rail displays
I moved to SF this year and I love this poem.

Q: is the church of 8 wheels really a popular destination? Or is this the poet's bias towards the haight and hayes areas?

For me, Mission Dolores represents "classic SF" and is the area I'm fondest of -- and contrarily, the Salesforce Park and the surrounding area is the pinnacle of tech & capitalism (and b2b saas.)

namanyayg··on New magnetic component discovered in the Faraday effect
We intuitively think in particles and see a world of billiard balls colliding with one another.

But actually everything is merely waves and fields.

There's going to be a time where humans finally reconcile the quantum with the newtonian -- and I can't wait for that day

namanyayg··on A year without caffeine (2013)
I get a stiff neck and cold hands sometimes, do I need to give up coffee now?!
namanyayg··on Show HN: Continuous Claude – run Claude Code in a loop
Exactly what I needed! I might use it for test coverage on an ancient project I need to improve...
namanyayg··on Cerebras Code now supports GLM 4.6 at 1000 tokens/sec
Exactly, Codex gpt-5-high is quite like sending smart devs. It still makes mistakes, and when it does they're extremely stupid ones, but I am now accepting the code it generates as throwable and I just reroll when it does something dumb.

namanyayg··on Notes on Being a Man
I agree and see these antisocial patterns in my younger male relatives, but the question is: what is the actual solution?
namanyayg··on I analyzed the lineups at the most popular nightclubs
Which is the best SF nightclub? I got baited by online reviews to visit DNA and was disappointed.
namanyayg··on Claude Code refused to add rainbows and unicorns to my app

That's not a thing (yet)
namanyayg··on Claude Code refused to add rainbows and unicorns to my app
Not tasteful to play on this given the actual origins of this poem, but thanks for teaching me that GIMP was about to be renamed.
namanyayg··on Acronymy (Can we define every word as an acronym?)
Had me at the first half! One of my favorite, mind blowing books that I had the pleasure to read during my senior years of HS.
namanyayg··on Uv is the best thing to happen to the Python ecosystem in a decade
Is there a resource to understand the nuanced technical differences between pip and uv?

As an outsider to the python ecosystem I've wanted to learn the _how_ behind uv as well, but that hasn't been immediately clear

namanyayg··on Unexpected patterns in historical astronomical observations
All of human knowledge and observation so far points to the fact that we can't break the light barrier
namanyayg··on Addictive-like behavioural traits in pet dogs with extreme motivation for toys
Avoiding spoilers, Peter Watts' works have parts which show what happens when this idea is taken to its logical extreme.
namanyayg··on Show HN: Recall: Give Claude memory with Redis-backed persistent context
I've been building exactly this. Currently a beta feature in my existing product. Can I reach out to you for your feedback on metaprompting/grammarly aspect of it?
namanyayg··on How HubSpot scaled AI adoption
I wanted to reach out but I couldn't find your email. Mine's in the profile if you want to chat.
namanyayg··on How HubSpot scaled AI adoption
A way I've been developing and is working really well is to identify high level "goals" of the day or week by analyzing their AI chats first.

Then, measure time taken, AI usage, and sentiment of AI usage.

With this, we find out how quickly was the task done, how much AI was used, and whether the individual was frustrated at any point and if the process went smoothly etc.

My system already hooks into top AI providers and measures these outcomes for engineers. Working on measuring other use cases. Email in profile if anyone wants to chat.

Now of course we can't do a blind comparison with the exact same task, but this at least gives insights into usage, outcomes, and ease-of-use.

namanyayg··on Launch HN: Slashy (YC S25) – AI that connects to apps and does tasks
Slashy is great and the founders are so talented. I've been following Pranjali on Twitter for a while -- they've got great weekly videos where they keep releasing new features.

The team ships fast and I'm excited to see where they go

namanyayg··on Essential Reading for Agentic Engineers – August 2025
Feels great to be featured here!
namanyayg··on Grug Design
exactly, turned me off. I don't particularly like the "design" either which is ironic.
namanyayg··on Project Hyperion: Interstellar ship design competition
It was indeed incredible. Battled out in a pan Asia round, won it, and got invited to the ISSDC at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Felt so fortunate learning from engineers at Boeing and NASA. Incredible experience for a 15yo kid from India.

Coincidentally, it has been exactly 10 years since and my photos app resurfaced some of the memories. Good times.
