n0body··on Dune Genesis (1980)
i read all of them, and true they did come back in the end, but it wasn't worth reading all the others for
n0body··on Dune Genesis (1980)
the legends of dune trilogy were the only good dune books. the reset were drivel in my opinion. that said, i did read them all, so they can't have been that bad, but i did spend most of the time waiting for the robots to come back. which they don't do :(
n0body··on MS deprecating IE8 is not a victory
they really need to decouple internet explorer from windows. if everybody could run the latest ie, then it wouldn't be an issue anymore
n0body··on Show HN: Pythonpy – the swiss army knife of the command line
obviously you learned bad perl, not modern perl
n0body··on Why JavaScript Is The Next (or first) Programming Language You Should Learn
it's an awful language, but it's ubiquitous, and it's flexible enough that libraries can smooth over the cracks.
n0body··on Show HN: Pythonpy – the swiss army knife of the command line
Or perl.
n0body··on Really Good Emails
I was hoping for comedy. Instead I got the emails I mark as spam/unsubscribe from. :(
n0body··on Show HN: Dumbphone – Turn your smartphone into a dumbphone
"I have no self control" "there's an app for that"
n0body··on LOLCODE
I was talking about whitespace, and I was wrong, it's a different Chris Morris :(
n0body··on LOLCODE
you could well be right. infact, i'll go as far as saying you are right. i learned something today.
n0body··on LOLCODE
and whitespace ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitespace_%28programming_langu... ) - and it was developed by Chris Morris ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Morris_%28satirist%29 )
n0body··on OpenSSL Security Advisory
Trouble is, so much has changed that they need a whole separate audit. And who knows what problems removing code introduces. But then again, they might not b worse, but they'll still need auditing to find out
n0body··on OpenSSL Security Advisory
God damn it not again. Bring on boringssl/libressl. Although they'll be full of holes as well probably, and as things stand there's a lot of people looking at openssl at the moment. So maybe better the devil you know
n0body··on Show HN: I'm renting a truck to make buying and selling furniture easier
Seems any old idea is great in San Francisco.

For what it's worth, 90 minutes is a very short for an auction, and only getting 50% is daylight robbery

n0body··on MacOS X is an Unsuitable Platform for Web Development
just because it doesn't work for you doesn't mean it's unsuitable. it doesn't work for me either, but i know plenty of people who it does work for. same with windows.

and that said, you can always put linux on it if that's what works best for you

and i always develop in a vm which is as close to production as possible, less surprises come deployment time then. although i know people who don't, so each to his own

n0body··on My First Unikernel
My argument is that you'll need better developers who cost more money. Not only that, but you're making the project more complicated. i.e if the project is to create x, then you have to also create y first and, it's harder to debug. and you've also got the added overhead of running xen.

all in all it's a nice trick, but it's not very practical, because if it was practice we'd all be using dos for our vms, since you get the bare metal, and a little bit of a environment to bootstrap from.

n0body··on [dead]
I could tell that was going to be in New Zealand before I even clicked it, somehow it looks Maori
n0body··on My First Unikernel
i didn't say there was, but it's still complicating the task.

i'm not saying it isn't cool, but it's a very round about way of doing something, and as such it becomes more expensive in development time and skill required

n0body··on My First Unikernel
interesting, although the old mantra of "hardware is cheap, developers are expensive" is still true. you could hire 10 perl/c/c++/javascript/php/etc dev with ease for your project, but struggle to find one ocaml dev. And even then your ocaml dev will need to know the mirage library, xen and have a good knowledge of way more stuff than your project scope

that said, it's still really cool, but it's not something i'd use, and especially not in production

n0body··on Mojolicious – Perl real-time web framework
everyday, although I use Catalyst, not mojo, but it's still nice to see a Perl project on hacker news.
n0body··on Mapcode – A short address for any location on Earth
It gave me a map code that was longer than my postcode. I'm not sure how postcodes work everywere else in the world, but in the uk they point to a specific road, so it's pretty good for navigating to a place with.

I do know that in belgium they point to an area, so they're not as good as a navigation aid.

n0body··on What happens when you search 'ugly hack' in GitHub
You and I have a very different definition of fun, and meta-programming.
n0body··on What happens when you search 'ugly hack' in GitHub
I have no idea why this is on the front page.
n0body··on Ask HN: Why isn't there a twitch.tv for programming?
I agree, although I do enjoy watching talks and things, well listening to them mostly. Usually stuff from http://perltv.org/ bit I couldn't imagine wanting to watch someone program. I can't imagine someone would want to watch me either.

Anyone have a reason to watch live coding streams? If so, why?

n0body··on A Note from LastPass
lastpass is awesome, and i like their disclosure policy. nothing worse than trying to cover things up.
n0body··on Image Protection on the Web
apparently a lot of people disagree.
n0body··on Cubic 2048
left and up over and over nearly won it for me.

good idea, but it's not as fun as 2048.

n0body··on Image Protection on the Web
interesting.
n0body··on [dead]
What is this? What is the point of it?
n0body··on Show HN: Unioncy – Keep an automated record of your things
i have a folder for this kind of stuff, and not on a computer. http://i00.i.aliimg.com/img/pb/411/912/331/331912411_939.jpg

that said, it's a nice idea, although not for me, because of the above, and because i don't want you to have access to my email
