The administration has screwed the pooch here, all trust built between the EU and US since WWII is effectively gone forever. The trust that allowed the EU to assume that the US was largely aligned with European standards and goals and that the US could be trusted as a long term partner for trade, supply our weapons systems, fly our satellites into space, provide our network hardware, our business operating systems, store our documents in the cloud, give us satellite broadband, the dollar as a reserve currency, store our gold, provide our social media platforms, share intel etc. etc. is gone forever. The EU now has no choice but to look internally first for anything that is that even has a whiff of strategic importance. Even if the current administration rolled back everything today the damage is done and the EU has no choice in how they proceed in the long term and has to manage and mitigate the long term risk of being dependent for so much externally.
A study of people who were adopted as babies could be interesting, depending on circumstances the stress on the birth mother could be reflected in the child but the dynamics of the birth family after birth would no longer be in play. I am specifically thinking of Ireland where there are a significant number of people in their 40s up that were the result of pretty much forced adoption due to the societal stigma of getting pregnant out of wedlock which would have been very stressful as the mothers were sent to mother and baby homes once they began to show.
An email like that in any organization is unacceptable. It shows complete disrespect for the individual and is a clear demonstration of toxic leadership.
You likely work in startups for the opportunity to work on exciting new things, have a high salary with potential for a big pay day which as part of that you accept the stress and the risk.
A lot of people work in government jobs for the stability and consistency of the work, as part of that they accept lower pay than the private sector.
Their work I would argue is far more valuable to society than any startup and should not be devalued by people who have contributed virtually nothing to society by asking them to justify their jobs.
I only discovered https://notebooklm.google.com/ today, as an experiment i threw in a dry EU directive, https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/HTML/?uri=CEL... and got it to generate a podcast that was 20 mins long and was a good intro to the directive and natural to listen to. It won't replace podcasts that require creativity but as a tool to summarize info into a digestible format I'll most definitely be using it again.
Its not just car manufacturers, ever since SW stopped shipping in CDs the pressure to just ship and fix it with a patch has permeated everywhere. If there was no further opportunity to fix later I wonder would the Boeing issues have been as prevalent.
I would love to do something like that to track the bats in my garden, how feasible would it be for an amateur to do as a personal project?
Any good references on where to start.
Same here, we got weekly and its done on a Friday. forces you to tidy so cleaning can be done properly and then your house is clean and tidy for the weekend.
I work in manufacturing and we have a weekly safety slide that normally presents a safety based work scenario or learning, this week's one was based on how to be safe while out trick or treating and one of the guys said he didn't appreciate being told in how to behave outside of work hours. I have have to admit that his attitude caught me off guard but I understand where he is coming from even if the intention comes from a good place finding the line between work and home can be a grey area. Saying that I don't thinkmi would appreciate being ambushed with being asked to provide a personal anecdote
I was going to write how this would be cool in a kids drawing app but the thought that they might never feel the need to draw something from a different angle. I wonder what other activities have been lost to time and technology.
My dentist back in the 80s didn't even wear gloves, he was an older man but I can't imagine gloves were not required then or even when he would have trained in the 40s or 50s.
That funny for me to read, I stopped buying Scientific American I think in the early 2000s as I found the articles too far beyond my comprehension at time and didn't have time to study them in detail.
I listened to an interview with the author during the week, in short as soon as you start getting reliable recording of births and clamp down on old age welfare fraud the phenomenon disappears.
Are we only a few years away from one person/small group made movies where the dialog, acting, location and special effects can be tweaked endlessly for a relatively low cost. If I was a studio exec I'd be worried.
You can put Ireland at the top of the list, one postcode for every address, every house has one, every apartment has one, every building has one, even some old ruins have one.
Ireland has an organisation called the Workplace Relations Commission, anyone can log a complaint against their current or former employer without getting the lawyers involved. The case gets reviewed and if warranted a payment can be required. I believe this case was their highest ever award.
