mystraline··on Anthropic apologizes for invisible Claude Fable guardrails
Does "SORRY" fix the invisible garbage guardrails?

Does "SORRY" fix the deception these models use on the sly?

Does "SORRY" not silently downgrade you to a shittier model without notification?

Does "SORRY" refund your tokens or money?

Im guessing NO to all of those. Standard corporate sorry of "We're sorry youre offended and stupid and gullible".

mystraline··on The $15,000 AI Bill. Your $20 Subscription is a DELUSION [video]
In this case, its not competition in the form of foreign company.

Its competition of engineers, scientists, and intellectual labor being atrophied due to overuse of LLM.

Pushing costs at 1/100 for 'thinking' gets intellectual labor people hooked and dependent. Then when costs go 300x, leaves people dumber and less capable of doing things on their own.

LLM companies, by not accurately charging for services, are directly dumping on world-level society and devaluing and addicting people to outsource thinking. Thats the problem.

In reality all subsidized and 'free' services do exactly this. LLM token vendors are making a play against human thought.

mystraline··on The $15,000 AI Bill. Your $20 Subscription is a DELUSION [video]
The underlying capitalist problem is that dumping is not just permitted, but expected as a business strategy. Except dumping is usually exporting to another country to kill their industry.

Instead, this dumping is exporting "thinking" to destroy humans' innate thoughts, get them hooked, then rugpull for 3x the cost. Cause just over 1 year of LLMs, takes a developer who could reverse engineer a thing, to now needing help to construct a for loop.

Thats why I run my own LLMs. Hard to rugpull what you own and control. And thats also why I focus on questions not of "do this", but "explain this". I seek to use LLMs to learn more effectively, so I end up needing it less and less.

mystraline··on Anthropic requires 30 day data retention for Fable and Mythos
Does *anybody* believe their weasel words? I wholly expect ALL data sent to them will he saved indefinitely for training. And I mean all. Voice, text, pictures, scraped websites. You name it.

All the LLM vendors are the biggest commercial pirates ever known. And they got away with it. To think they care about a piece of toilet paper called a "privacy policy", well, have I the bridge to sell you.

We absolutely CAN call for violence. And especially political violence. Theres even a TV show with it as a name.

Its calling for "Law and Order". Its violence against the 'correct group'.

You absolutely can call for violence (now) against protestors, ANTIFA, anti-surveillance (DEFLOCK), unionists, homeless, drug users, and other deemed by federal, state, and local officials as undesirable.

You cant directly call for violence to black people by name, but eupamisms are still fine to allude to. "Those people", "ghetto", etc.

And the violence BY police and government way exceed the violence by the public they target.

Also, thou shalt NEVER advocate for violence against CEOs, business leaders, politicians, and the like. Their lives are worth like 1M of us plebes. So those who come to their defense will do so crazily and way over-respond, like cops do routinely.

Thats why the feds threw threw the book at Luigi Mangione. Cause if he did it, his way is illegal but tremendously effective. And the elites have little defense against this.

(Case in point. In my local area, a person took $100 from a cash register, and got arrested for a class A misdemeanor and 2 other charges. Whereas the same restaurant had their owner committed mass wage theft of 27 people to the tune of $72000, and only had to pay a fine.

There absolutely hypocrisy who can advocate and not for violence.)

mystraline··on A Farmer Donated Land to Turn into a Park. The City Is Building a Data Center
No.

Farmer SELLS land (for $10) with a deed restriction that it is to be used for a public park.

Hand wavey timey wimey...

Deed restriction 'magically' goes away.

Gets sold for $10M.

mystraline··on German ruling declares Google liable for false answers in AI Overviews
> IP theft is illegal

For the plebes, it is a civil tort.

For the AI companies, its required for "training". Rules dont apply to too-large-to-fail professional for-profit pirates.

But damn you if you try to make a Netflix-clone with every video. Wew.

mystraline··on Surprise, pay $1000
Reread the last paragraph.

And let me know how a lawsuit against "John Q Public" will go, along with an email from fakemail.net and a gas station preloaded credit card.

Companies deserve this sort of treatment if they say shit like "FREE TRIAL" and silently convert you to 'you owe money' with no hard limits. And naturally, paragraph 37, sentence 12 includes this disclaimer. That should be blatantly clear, but its not cause they are scammers.

So, fuck'em.

mystraline··on Surprise, pay $1000
Yep, the "Its not fraud/illegal if you make defense against cost more than just paying the cost".

It turns legitimate enterprises and businesses into quazi-illegal scam engines. Like, health clubs or Adobe scam-subscriptions.

> Most users only have/can afford 8 or maybe 16GB RAM.

Excuse me while I laugh.

Im not talking about the denizens of reddit or facebook here, who were suckered in buying a 8GB memory laptop in 2025 or 2026.

We're talking about hacker news users. Devs, engineers, and the like. 64GB seems the average for running IDEs like VSCod(e|ium) or running dockers for testing.

In 2024, I bought 2x48GB DDR5 for $300 on sale at Microcenter. The expensive (faster modules) were $500 off-sale. Now, prices are fucky. But ive always tried maxxing my memory. Always been the easiest performance gain.

My comment absolutely stands *for this audience*.

mystraline··on German ruling declares Google liable for false answers in AI Overviews
The answer is you stay clear of US law jurisdictions and post your code to gitflic.ru

Its where the DRM bypass software lives these days, along with Bypass Paywalls Clean.

mystraline··on Surprise, pay $1000
So ive done this before when I deal with predatory and 'free trial' companies.

Go get a $20 gas station credit card. They get THAT card, and whatever name you want to provide.

When they demand $x000 for their free trial, they get.... $20!

And before anyone bemoans their 50+ page onesided "contract" that weasel-words revokes 'free trial'... Sure, they can publish a claim and sell off a debt to "John Q Public". We can see how far they'll get with that.

mystraline··on If Claude Fable stops helping you, you'll never know
I have never ever trusted "corporate ethics".

Theres no ethical framework. No axioms. Its a mixture of legal, political, and public-facing 'rules'. And what are the rules? Youre not permitted to know.

"We reserve the right to lie about the models we provide, silently downgrade you, and give you blatant misinformation cause you triggered our unstated rules... BUT we'll still use your token budget with lots of thinking and waste your money."

No, folks. Seriously, local LLMs are where its at. You can run the model YOU want, on your hardware, with no data exfiltration.

And with tools like Krasis that can synthesize nvidia ram and system ram as unified-ish memory, makes doing Local LLMs absolutely foable, now!

mystraline··on Ask HN: What are tools you have made for yourself since the advent of AI?
Glad to share!

But go try it out now with a 35B model on your current hardware.

Right now, I have loaded qwen3.6-35B-A3B, 128k context, kv cache 2.5GB, thinking. Int8

Using 11.5GB gfx ram, 42GB system ram.

I dont want to oversell. All GPU would be faster, but creating a semi-unified system is deffo a game changer for me.

Yep, thats it what it does. Only works with nvidia.

The difference it does use safetensors, and not gguf's. But it does dynamically requant to int4 8 or bf16.

mystraline··on Ask HN: What are tools you have made for yourself since the advent of AI?
Check out Krasis https://github.com/brontoguana/krasis

It enables something similar to unified memory. Ive got a 5060 (16GB) card and 96 GB ddr5.

I can run qwen3.5-122b int4 at 25tok/sec.And now even does image ingestion!

Ive been bulk transliterating and translating foreign language books into english. And all completely local.

mystraline··on Facebook is paying people overseas promoting Alberta separatism
Correct.

MAGA are mostly inherently dumb, gullible, and afraid. And 'strongman' (fascism) is the answer for dumb, gullible, and afraid.

And from an accompanying article https://nypost.com/2026/04/21/us-news/top-maga-influencer-em...

> He said he also attempted to make a liberal counterpart for Hart on Instagram, but “Democrats know that it’s AI slop, so they don’t engage as much,” he said.

We're now solidly in a point of tine that a random 3rd world noodle merchant can make livable money by significantly warping and distorting governments across the world. I dont know the solution for this, but Id have a real hard look at DMCA Section 230, and social media's responsibility in enabling and amplifying.

mystraline··on The gamers taking on the industry to stop it switching off games
Initially, copyright and patents were a counter-response to the European guild system.

Early on, you also had to prove your patrnt with a physical thing. Couldnt write the patent to deceive. And for making plain language, you got protection for 17 years.

Now, theres shit like 'business process patents', genetic patents, and other horrible. And patents are now writtten to confuse and hide, unlike plain language.

Copyrights were basically bought by Disney. Theyve been grossly perverted due to money interests.

Im mostly OK with trademarks. It comes from Heraldry and family coat of arms. Trademarked colors are quite bullshit however.

mystraline··on Anti-social: It's fads, not friends, which now dominate social media feeds
Its capitalist 'social media' thats the problem. Doctorow's enshittification case study was exactly about Facebook and Instagram.

However, you go to Mastodon, Pixelfed, or Lemmy and things are dramatically better. Well, no, not just better, but completely refreshing. You friend people and what you get is a cronological feed. No algorithm bullshit, no gamification, no adverts snuck in.

mystraline··on The gamers taking on the industry to stop it switching off games
My opinion is that is a fraudulent rental masquerading as a sale.

And any and all EULAs or similar documents presented after a sale should be completely null and void. But any corporation attempting to that should be fined a signficant portion of their revenue. Past that, dissolution of company.

But no, we live in a shit society that someone who signs up for a demo of Disney+ and then has his wife die due to bad food, and they tried to slap indefinite arbitration on him.

mystraline··on How Liminalism Became the Defining Aesthetic of Our Time
I get and agree with what youre saying.

Its the combination of capitalism and lowest bidder architecture that is alienating to humans. And if humans are present, makes the space tolerable.

Remove the humans, and the space is off-putting, eerie and has a sense of dread.

And yeah, brutalism (usage of concrete as primary architecture) is also seen in the USA. And frankly, most of the buildings feel like prisons, and not where you want to go. Look no further than Indiana Univerity Hermann Wells library. https://maps.app.goo.gl/6FDvKR9sHSk3z8v56

Brutalist buildings feel directly hostile to humans, and not a vague sense of dread.

However I had the pleasure of seeing a brutalist hotel in Iceland (Fosshotel Vatnajokull) which combines concrete with wood. It felt sturdy and powerful, but also soft and welcoming. https://maps.app.goo.gl/wnXEawh2wptmQ3Rd7

But yeah, I do think youre on the right track. It really is related to capitalism and making horrible spaces (malls, etc). And without people, they are alienating and mild dread-inducing.

mystraline··on How Liminalism Became the Defining Aesthetic of Our Time
It is definitely that. But the art critics also use very loaded terms and such to also confuse any discussion. That language is also used to identify the 'in' crowd too.

Examples:

"Emptied of stores and absent of humans, Columbus’s photograph captures the melancholic discomfort of liminal aesthetics — the strange, simultaneous pull of disquiet and nostalgia that makes this bottom-up, crowd-curated digital movement among the most pertinent and explicit artistic reactions to the strange, surreal experience of living in our particular moment of dystopian late capitalism."

Holy run-on dense sentence, Batman! The amount of connected jargon (and overloading the jargon) is said in such a way that you cant engage with it. That should have been 3 sentences.

"As an internet phenomenon, the most recent iteration of liminal aesthetics can be primarily traced to a 2019 Creepypasta collaborative short story entitled “The Backrooms,” which first appeared on the message board 4chan."

And heres a backup of the original 4chan post https://archive.4plebs.org/x/thread/22661164/#22661164

As much as 4chan spouts (slur for black people, slur for gay people, pro-nazi propaganda), that thread is super approachable by everyone. 'Post your disquieting images that feel off'.

"Obviously, the clearest thematic precursor to Liminalism is Edward Hopper. There is a stolid, individualistic, bootstrapping Protestant work ethic element to Hopper’s work, which is, in its sheer insanity, the wellspring of the alienation implicit in Liminalism."

First, the definition is researching that artist, and trying to even understand their place and all the hidden meanings there. But the point is name dropping, showing the "in group" that they really totally know what theyre talking about.

The reality is that art really is for everyone! Humans have been making art since before we were homo sapiens. The problem is the arrogant art critique world is trying to gatekeep "art" to their own definitions and nomenclature that excludes the masses.

mystraline··on How Liminalism Became the Defining Aesthetic of Our Time
Not at all.

Ive also purchased and commissioned a few pieces of art. And I find that with actual artists, they ARE very approachable and dont have the Art Critic vibe of 'better than you'.

Its primarily the art literature and critics whom portray this haughty and 'holier than thou' types of one way conversations.

My SO works for a art museum, and they constantly fight with those types as well. When their museum hosts art painting days for artists (primarily plen air or open air painting), the artists use appropriate jargon for painting, but the critics show up and its basically a word-soup for their own vernacular.

mystraline··on Google to pay SpaceX $920M a month for compute capacity at xAI data centers
We've been diversifying with physical metals.

Stocks, bonds, etc are effectively NFTs of "you own a monkey image". That monkey image can go poof on a 'market correction' aka 95% of investors lose everything.

With precious metals, you own the material. And silver, gold, platinum, palladium, rhodium and others have innate usage for a variety of industrial and jewelery uses. Their prices may change, but catalytics arent just going to bottom out.

We still have stocks, cause 401k's. But we also have a sizable metal buffer now.

mystraline··on How liminalism became the defining aesthetic
Ive always felt that the Art World seems to talk in its own tone. And that tone is arrogant, looking down on people, and haughtiness. Words dont mean with the Art World as they normally do. And definitions are scarce, since you are expected to innately know them, or be 'out'.
mystraline··on Ultra-processed foods in the global food system: The role of tobacco companies
> When people eat non-nutritious food it's not because the conglomerates are pushing it on them. It's because they choose it.

Ah yes, the capitalist trick of blaming the consumer for structural failings.

https://www.ers.usda.gov/data-products/food-access-research-... - food desert map.

Especially in food deserts, sometimes the only places to buy food are from gas stations. Guess what they serve? Toxic shit that somehow identifies as food.

Opening state-run groceries is essential in fixing that many food deserts, but so many would howl of socialism.

Even Adam Smith warned that companies and capitalists would not help with infrastructure. Food access is one such area.
