mychael··on Charles Krauthammer note to readers: “My fight is over”
When it comes to the War in Iraq, there are not many saints in Washington. Less we forget, the Nobel Peace Prize winner Barack Obama executed the War in Iraq for many years and issued countless drone strikes. Does that means we should all be saying "Obama is responsible for the deaths of thousands of people!" ?
mychael··on Charles Krauthammer note to readers: “My fight is over”
It sounds like you have an axe to grind against Americans, and in particular, white men.

We try to have reasoned discussion in this forum so perhaps Hacker News is not the best fit for you. Have you tried r/politics on Reddit?

mychael··on Charles Krauthammer note to readers: “My fight is over”
Democrats and Republicans alike pushed for it based on the intelligence available at the time [0]. To call him partially responsible for 100,000s of deaths is very unfair and not very classy considering he's dying soon.

mychael··on Ask HN: What is your favorite way of setting up online store in 2018?
SaaS founders: Observe how frequently Shopify is mentioned in this post. This is the goal.
mychael··on Nearly half of Bay Area residents say they want to leave
PSA: If salary is the reason you live in the Bay Area, then you should be earning at least $200K.
mychael··on Microsoft Is Said to Have Agreed to Acquire GitHub
Good for Github. Bad for Github users.
mychael··on Facebook moving away from React Native?
Why would you let a rumor influence your decision? Also, even if it were true, why would it influence your decision?
mychael··on USA needs law 'a lot like GDPR' says Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff
The US needs a law that exempts American businesses from GDPR if they have no presence in Europe.
mychael··on Python’s For - Else
Never use this in the real world please.
mychael··on GDPR for lazy people: Block all European users with Cloudflare Workers
You're mistaking GDPR's intent with its implementation, an error that lots of people are making.

As Americans we're particularly sensitive about having to follow rules made by people who don't represent us and are not accountable to us. This is a totally fair and justifiable reason to be against GDPR even if you agree with its objectives.

mychael··on The GDPR blog post
American entrepreneurs who are proponents of GDPR are experiencing some serious Stockholm Syndrome. Or possibly they're just faking their love for GDPR to virtue signal.
mychael··on Snap Inc. presents Yellow – An investment and mentorship program in LA
Yahoo's biggest asset was Alibaba
mychael··on Snap Inc. presents Yellow – An investment and mentorship program in LA
Its as if Snap is deliberately trying to turn off founders.
mychael··on Show HN: HyperApp – 1k JavaScript framework for building web applications
Why?
mychael··on Adobe to Acquire Magento
I've never met anyone who uses Magento that actually likes it.
mychael··on Ask HN: How are you building cross-platform (mobile and browser) apps?
Create React Native App (CRNA) with Expo. It doesn't get any better than this from a developer experience perspective.
mychael··on Getting 1Password 7 ready for the Mac App Store
link?
mychael··on Getting 1Password 7 ready for the Mac App Store
1Password does not care about loyal users who have been there since the beginning. They care about getting new subscriptions. Fair enough, I'll just take my business elsewhere.
mychael··on A Letter to /r/python
People are rightly turned off that the Python Software Foundation (which Kenneth is a core member of) declared PipEnv the official package manager[0]. It reeks of favoritism, insider politics and the cult of personality surrounding the tool's author. It would have been better if PipEnv proved itself as a better tool in the open marketplace of ideas.

mychael··on Solving dynamic programming interview problems
Above all else, Dynamic Programming is useful for making yourself feel like a superior programmer and writing blog posts about it. In 10+ years of working in this industry, I can't recall using it once outside of interviews.
mychael··on GDPR: Don't Panic
> has not cost me any money, only time

It sounds like you don't value your time. In my universe (software development), time is money.

mychael··on GDPR: Don't Panic
I'm a citizen of the United States, which is a sovereign nation.

I will never pay the EU "internet transgression fees", no matter how well intentioned they are. Full Stop.

mychael··on Salesforce CEO Benioff calls for national privacy law
Of course he does. Big businesses like SalesForce will benefit the most from the regulation and he gets the glory of virtue signaling about it.
mychael··on Is capitalism a threat to democracy?
Short answer: No.

You can't have political freedom without economic freedom.

mychael··on Design Thinking for Blockchains
A site about design that uses a blue font on a black background. The irony.
mychael··on Two Koreas Agree to End War This Year, Pursue Denuclearization
The pessimism in this thread is proportional to anti-Trumpism among HN commenters.

This is a historic moment, but partisanship blinds us from acknowledging progress.

mychael··on Two Koreas Agree to End War This Year, Pursue Denuclearization
Yes absolutely. It's kind of a joke that Obama won a Nobel Peace Prize.
mychael··on Don’t buy the MacBook Pros even on sale, in my opinion
This tells me theres a worse problem at Apple: Groupthink.

No one was bold enough to call BS on this poorly designed keyboard. Everyone just went along with it.

mychael··on Gitlab 10.7 Released
Bravo to the Gitlab team on building such a great product. I used to really dislike it, now I'm a big fan!
