my_ghola··on Firefox Focus – A new private browser for iOS and Android
Is there a good share to clipboard app? I tried the only one I found once and it tried to open google drive when I tried to use it. I'm not giving Google all the things I copypaste. Now I share to some notepad app and then copy from there.
my_ghola··on Used GPUs flood the market as Ethereum's price drops below $150
They do but in order to run those programs people pay with Ether, the Ethereum coin. And for mining Ether you solve the random hashes.
my_ghola··on Used GPUs flood the market as Ethereum's price drops below $150
There was a coin called Primecoin that looked for prime numbers rather than useless hashes. It also went up in the last few months and is going down now like the rest.

I think mining should not be a way to profit. The rewards are so mining doesn't cost anything to miners. Bitcoin/Ethereum users should be compelled to mine because it means more security that no one controls the blockchain.

I wonder if there's an algorithm that could deter people from building mining farms?

my_ghola··on Two Commits and the User Experience of Git
If anyone might have done the same thing, why call one person specifically in the first place? This just gives the wrong impression and makes that person more reluctant to make changes.
my_ghola··on GitNotifier – Email notifications for selected GitHub repository/profile events
The first thing that came to my mind is you could use Yahoo!Pipes for this. The second was "oh!".
my_ghola··on Windows 10 will use protected folders to thwart crypto ransomware
The OS we can reinstall, we don't care about its files. We care about our Excel files with the accounting books in them that we can not put in read only mode because we keep them open and update them every day.
my_ghola··on Horcrux: A Password Manager for Paranoids
I authored my password manager. It doesn't store the passwords anywhere.
my_ghola··on PoC or GTFO 15 [pdf]
If there was an issue 0x0, would it be the First issue or the Zeroth issue?
my_ghola··on Sysbench for MySQL 5.0, 5.1, 5.5, 5.6, 5.7 and 8
Inertia and being good enough at the jobs thrown at it.

Everyone for whom MySQL is not enough just move to Postgres and most open source ORM's support both so it's mostly a non issue. At a job I was told we would use Postgres very very shortly before release. All I had to do is change configuration settings and run a command, and that was 5 years ago.

my_ghola··on Developers who use spaces make more money than those who use tabs
I only use tabs in my Makefiles.
my_ghola··on Enough with the dead butterflies
But do all dead butterflies get into that pose? I'm sure some of the ones with more natural looking poses are dead too.
my_ghola··on Go Long on Web Components
> consider that you could publish a web component

Is there any place you can go look at Web Components built by others and contribute your own? plus a package manager to include them easily in your projects would be the best way for them to come to light.

my_ghola··on Judge orders Uber not to use technology taken from Waymo
The lawyer can pull down the defendants' pants and point and laugh, then tell Waymo how funny it was.
my_ghola··on Show HN: Spotter – Search for copies of videos on the internet
I'd be more interesting to build a tool to detect all the videos in Youtube that fall under fair use but are still being DMCA'd.
my_ghola··on Understand Go pointers
If it was pointers in general I would have expected the article to talk about pointer arithmetic, which from other comments in the thread seem to be not possible in Go.

What is the use case for pointers then? are parameters passed by value instead of by reference by default?

my_ghola··on David Lynch’s Dune – A sci-fi film by a director without much care for sci-fi
I didn't like the second book as much as the others because I felt it had more politics than them. Sure the story about a revolution is politics, but it isn't just politics.
my_ghola··on PHP 7 Virtual Machine
PHP is not a templating language. You can build a template engine with it, but then, you can build one with any other language.

If your app is in swift or objective-c, look into template libraries for those languages. Simple Google search tells me there's a couple of options including one using handlebar's format.

my_ghola··on Show HN: UrlRoulette – Pass a URL to the next visitor
Do links get removed after a visitor gets one or they stay in the pool?
my_ghola··on Redis as a JSON store
All I want is a standard date format. I had it with .Net's `/Date(xyz)/` format.
my_ghola··on Show HN: Gitly.io – high performance Git service with a 10s installation time
What's the difference with gogs/gitea or is it another fork? Is this open source?
my_ghola··on Why Ever Stop Playing Video Games
I've replaced watching movies and TV with videogames. It's more engaging and a single video game can give me 30 to 60 hours of entertainment compared to a TV series that gives me 6 to 12.
my_ghola··on Adventures in /usr/bin and the likes
Be careful there's at least two implementations of rename in different Linux distros. I've run into one made in perl that uses regex in Debian (e.g. `rename 's/foo/bar/' * `). And another one that uses simple strings (`rename foo bar * `) in CentOS.
my_ghola··on Adventures in /usr/bin and the likes
And `%!command` to replace the whole file. That's how editing hexadecimal in vim works. `%!xxd` to turn it, then `%!xxd -r` to turn it back.

Another useful one is `%!jq .` to pretty print a json file.

my_ghola··on Encrypted email is still a pain
And we go to great lengths trying to avoid this because of email harvesters for spam.

However I would not like it to transform into phone number harvesters for spam.

my_ghola··on Encrypted email is still a pain
No, it turned into Hangouts, which is alive and kicking, specially for companies using Google Apps.
my_ghola··on Go Web Examples
I haven't tried Go in a while but I see a lack of error handling in the code examples. Is that just to keep the code simple? I'd rather see examples with best practice handling of errors. Maybe show both versions so readers can see the difference?
my_ghola··on GitLab Database Incident – Live Report
I'd rather hire someone who learned what not to do than someone who hasn't yet.
my_ghola··on Joel Spolsky: Time to take a stand
Yes, we want to talk about it, but does it need to be in StackOverflow? Is there a StackExchange for politics?

Edit: there is http://politics.stackexchange.com/

my_ghola··on Things Every Hacker Once Knew
I use them whenever I can :)

Maybe a simple viewer would be nice.
