mustyoshi··on Most AI value will come from broad automation, not from R & D
120 years ago 40% of Americans were farmers, today that number is under 2%.

That technical progress resulted in a few companies and farm conglomerates becoming incredibly wealthy. But the benefits that we all received was we didn't have to toil in a field, and we get fresh beef on every corner.

The wealth gap growing, and the median person being better off aren't mutually exclusive.

Isn't it better for society as a whole if criminals are apprehended?

mustyoshi··on Meta is killing off its AI-powered Instagram and Facebook profiles
Why can't you just be American?

Both my parents were born here, they've explained our lineage, but I literally don't care. I'm an American, America is my culture and country.

mustyoshi··on Spotify Shuts Down ‘Unwrapped’ Artist Royalty Calculator with Legal Threats
That comes down to Spotify being mostly ad supported users and Apple being all paid. If Spotify got rid of their free tier their 60-70% rev share would be more than Apple's 50%. But then the number of streams would go down by 50-60%, counterintuitively the total payout would only go down like 10-15% tho.
mustyoshi··on Spotify Shuts Down ‘Unwrapped’ Artist Royalty Calculator with Legal Threats
I think it's pretty telling that they don't have an option for the ad supported users, when they make up like 70% of Spotifies userbase.
mustyoshi··on Spotify Shuts Down ‘Unwrapped’ Artist Royalty Calculator with Legal Threats
Spotify boasts a huge free user base, when I looked at their financials, I mathed that a paying user generating 6x as much revenue as the ad supported users. They simply can't raise their payouts and support free users.
mustyoshi··on Can humans say the largest prime number before we find the next one?
It can't be that hard, once you develop a profile for a user, you just need to classify the incoming videos and cross reference their profile against the classifications.

mustyoshi··on To Be Born in a Bag
Realistically, what will happen is once this technology becomes cheaper than a natural birth, you won't be able to have a natural pregnancy paid for by insurance.

Probably through the form of "discounts" for having vasectomies or tubal litigation. We'll probably develop better extraction methods so having physical BC becomes less of a stigma because you'll still be able to get the gametes.

It's actually strategic, and if you're fighting a peer adversary, they will be doing the same.

mustyoshi··on Show HN: SigNoz – open-source alternative to DataDog, NewRelic
I have the opposite opinion. We used Cloudwatch originally but switched to Datadog and it was night and day. Datadog has a beautiful interface for logs, metrics, and dashboarding.

mustyoshi··on Fork of the popular “I don't care about cookies” extension
> I don't care a lot about cookies, but if a website is abusive enough that they need to ask for my permission

How do you tell the difference?

> Again: you don't need permission for necessary cookies.

Usually it's better to ask forgiveness than permission, but I can understand sites wanting to play it safe and throw up a banner even if they only have "legal" cookies.

You aren't stopping them from making a mistake, and you aren't even stopping them from removing evidence from their PoV. You're merely retaining all communication on your side.

mustyoshi··on Deepfake Offensive Toolkit (real-time deepfakes for virtual cameras)
I'm glad they released this.

I'm sick snd tired of seeing big companies and orgs (Google is the most recent) publish an amazing application of ML but refuse to release the trained model because the model is biased and may be used in a bad way.

mustyoshi··on The problem with Bitcoin miners
Miners still have to choose to include your tx. The risk of losing during two blocks being mined goes up as blocksize does (longer to transmit across the network), so you still have to incentivize the miner to include your tx.

Ofc there will be miners who make much larger blocks no matter what, but it comes down to how urgent is your tx?

mustyoshi··on Am I the only person who can’t get a job?
Might be worth adding more Python stuff to your Github then. But for sure add more stuff to your skill list, to tick more boxes for the automated searches that recruiters do.

And I'm not sure what type of work you're interested in, but Madison seems to have at least somewhat of a startup scene, so I'm sure there are plenty of startups that would hire you, even if you aren't hired in as a developer/engineer, you could likely move into that role, and restart your technical career trajectory.

mustyoshi··on Am I the only person who can’t get a job?
I assumed since it wasn't in the skill list on your profile (I'm on mobile so apologies if it is there and I can't see it) that you didn't know anything about it. So I guess my next comment is add to the skill list all the ubiquitous technologies you know but thought weren't necessary to enumerate.

But definitely good to provide a GitHub link in your resume, I don't usually make a decision based on reading the code, but showing it is a positive in my mind.
