muro··on Cousins are disappearing. Is this reshaping the experience of childhood?
There is a huge debt that the military budget might be diverted into instead. It's likely this military budget that ensures the debt can be never repaid.
muro··on OWA's Review of Apple's DMA Compliance Proposal for the Web
There was some info about how much Google is paying Apple to be the default in iOS Safari - that's plenty reason to make other browsers as difficult as possible.
muro··on Why Rich People Don't Cover Their Windows
It's the "wealthy young white people"! I don't get this obsession with race in the US media.
muro··on US developers can offer non-app store purchasing, Apple still collect commission
We don't need to remember that, good riddance and great that they were disrupted. How do you disrupt this market though?
muro··on Niklaus Wirth, or the Importance of Being Simple
They might have designed and implemented it, but does it work? :)

I think Katmai was Pentium III

muro··on What has changed in CPU cores in M3 chips?
Yes
muro··on What has changed in CPU cores in M3 chips?
I did that for years, moving to a single MBP that can do everything is surprisingly nice
muro··on What has changed in CPU cores in M3 chips?
I'd like to do the same. I want to upgrade to 4TB SSD, as I'm at the limit all the time and I spend a lot of time moving data from the laptop to NAS and back. With the upgrade, I'll get a M3 max for the peace of mind - it will be ridiculously expensive anyway.

muro··on Apple has a memory problem and we're all paying for it
The MBP has a very nice screen including HDR, if you care about that. M2 vs M3 - no idea. I have a M1 and it's great.
muro··on Adblock Plus and (a little) more
It costs about 15 per month to watch YouTube without ads.
muro··on Ask HN: 20% of LinkedIn's recent layoffs were managers
There is a religion of weekly 1:1s that preaches a lot of wasted time.
muro··on DJI Mini 4 Pro
If you use their controller, you no longer need the app on a phone (e.g. to fly in restricted locations)? That would be nice.
muro··on The era-defining aesthetic of “In the Mood for Love”
The first part was certainly pretty. The rest, I'm not sure. I found it quite boring.
muro··on US set to unveil long-awaited crackdown on real estate money laundering
You could still have each property be a primary residence for a different family member, but it might still help.
muro··on Driving is more expensive than you think (2020)
Trains can't break quickly.
muro··on The Long History of Nobody Wants to Work Anymore
Sorry for the pedantry, but 1 coffee at Starbucks per day is closer to 120pm alone.
muro··on The Long History of Nobody Wants to Work Anymore
First it was "support a family of five", then "luxurious lifestyle" then "humble lifestyle". Except for the "luxurious" one, it was possible pretty much at any time in human history, including now.
muro··on Booking a Ryanair flight via an online travel agent might hold a nasty surprise
Wizz cancelled a flight, gave me an advanced warning 2 days ahead, cancelled also all future flights on that route. Since I booked through an agent, didn't offer anything beyond monopoly points. Ended up going through my credit card company to get it refunded. It was quite a hassle to find a replacement flight flying reasonably close to my destination. That one was with Ryanair and everything worked out excellent with them.
muro··on “Suburban sprawl is a much worse problem than skyscrapers”
Thanks, good to know Atlanta is doing this well!

>> who knows whether the buildings will still be around.

>Not sure what this means.

Just that I've seen buildings demolished within a timeframe, where the trees wouldn't have time to fully grow :)

muro··on “Suburban sprawl is a much worse problem than skyscrapers”
It's a monstrosity, a tribute to blandness. All cities look exactly the same. It's possible it will look better when the trees grow (if they plant any), though who knows whether the buildings will still be around.
muro··on Disney, Netflix, and more are fighting FTC's 'click to cancel' proposal
You might need name, address etc as part of the sign up, but if they made me enter all of that againz it would be infuriating.
muro··on Email proves Microsoft's Activision bid is designed to eliminate Playstation
Size of the involved companies matters
muro··on Email proves Microsoft's Activision bid is designed to eliminate Playstation
Many of them are on PC, they are no longer PS exclusives
muro··on Relic lays off 121 employees
Dawn of war 2 was excellent, 3 was hot garbage.

Age of Empires 4 is fine (I think it was done by Relic?). No idea about CoH3, hope it's good, I liked the first a lot, 2nd was ok.

muro··on Meta fined $1.3B over data transfers to U.S.

muro··on Netflix Plans to Cut Spending by $300M in 2023
Best interface of all video services by far. Only YouTube is as good - Amazon and Disney have such bad UX
muro··on Chile to Nationalize Lithium Industry
That's a good point. I thought the Russian civil war was already happening at that time, so it enabled everyone in Russia to focus on that one alone. Is that incorrect?
