EU (Europe in general) has an enormous bureaucracy, that wants to know everything about its citizens e.g. you have to register after every move. Then on top of requiring the state knows, you have an expectation of privacy.

Yeah, that is hidden quite far down. The whole comment where it becomes clear is hilarious - heat trapped between cards, cards warping - I'm not sure if it really was so bad, or if the person is just making things up, but I assume the latter.

+1, would also enjoy a book recommendation. I can recommend a fun app - Euclidea :)

My favorite book on the topic, unfortunately only in Slovak, is: "Matematici, ja a ty" (mathematicians, you and me). I don't think there is a translation. I also had a university professor who had a similar style - not dry proofs, but "Here is how Archimedes thought about proofs" - which is related to the comment above: if A is not smaller than B and B is not smaller than A, they need to be equal.

I wish they would look into wage fixing across companies too - where at least "big tech" shares / buys salary data across all their competitors, so they don't have to increase wages - they fix them by being consistent across that dataset.

Seems to be the same thing, just in a different "market"

Nice. You can alternatively prove the negative: suppose it's a parallelogram with non-right angles, assume angle at A is "sharper". Thus, you can create two right angle triangles: AB'C with the base extended beyond B (= B') where AC is one diagonal and A'BD where A' is "below" D and BD is the other diagonal. As AB'C is larger than A'BD (because A' is within AB and B' is outside while the height is the same) AC can't be the same length as BD.

Thus, no parallelogram with non-right angles exists that has equal length diagonals.

He is the most popular politician in Slovakia for many, many years - whether in government or in opposition.

He is pro-russia and very polarizing, but he likely doesn't need (Russian) money to be successfully elected.

muro··on Suicide Rates Are Now Higher Among Young Adults Than the Middle-Aged
If you have enough rich people who can afford to rent / own in cities close to the ocean, most people won't be able to afford the same. There are just too many people who would like to live in Bondi, Manly and similar (speaking about Sydney), so only those with the means will be able to. Either live inland or further out.

Disclaimer: lived in a nice suburb, but nowhere close to a beach.

muro··on Suicide Rates Are Now Higher Among Young Adults Than the Middle-Aged
That's an unnecessarily pessimistic take. There is plenty of jobs, they pay well compared to almost anywhere in the world, the country is huge with lots of natural resources and a small population. There are amazing beaches, nature and if things go bad, some social safety net. With that country size, cheap housing is possible - just not in the most desirable locations.

I don't know, take the high road even if it costs something if you know your decision is causing the bullying? But no, greed wins.
muro··on U.S. sues Apple, accusing it of maintaining an iPhone monopoly
That's Apple being hostile to consumers, not Spotify. And the fact that Apple Music does offer subscriptions and doesn't need to pay 30% was appreciated in Europe with $2B just to make a point to Apple that they absolutely need to stop their BS.

Taxis in Sydney are regulated and can't just decide what to charge. Travelers might not know, of course. If at all possible, take a picture.

muro··on Epic says Apple will reinstate developer account
I think this was all a distraction to give regulators some way to pretend they are doing something while retaining their ridiculous pricing structure and avoiding discussion on that.

> Apple makes both the hardware and software, it’s their device, hence they can do almost anything they want.

Somehow, that is repeated so often as if it was the truth. Making both HW and SW makes it even worse, not better.

Good point - however I only manage to turn them on/off by yanking cables, it's incredibly annoying to do. The on/off switch just changes from wired to wireless and still keeps some connection.

+1 to Kinesis Advantage. I prefer the "original" / non-360 for its advantage (sorry) of just working as soon as it's connected to a computer. The 360 needs to pair it's halves that results in a disconnect/reconnect dance which annoys me a lot. I assume it's only due to my setup, where I have two laptops connected by a USB-C to a monitor, all accessories are in turn connected to the monitor.
