muloka··on Firesheep: Easy HTTP session hijacking from within Firefox
I realize I should of put more emphasis on "as much" as yes this only works on only a few popular websites as defined by the plugin.

Thanks to reading Techcrunch this morning, I read about this plugin which allows you to manually define which sites you want to force an HTTPS connection on:

Force-TLS https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/12714/

Mind you for any of these extensions to work the website you're visiting needs to be already accessible via ssl. If the site does not have encryption, these plugins can't force the sites to automagically start using the encryption it never had.

Thanks to the EFF and the Tor Project we need not worry as much thanks to their HTTPS Everywhere project, a plugin for Firefox: http://www.eff.org/https-everywhere/

muloka··on Ask HN: Who Plays Go?
I always thought this would be a great game to teach to under privileged youth and the homeless.

Its also relatively easy to put together a makeshift go board. At most all one needs is white and black paint, brushes, rocks, a piece of plywood or plastic, and something straight to make the lines.

You could even teach them how to make their own board and pieces.

Unfortunately this site doesn't accept my position. I keep getting the following:

You must mark a valid location on the Google Map.

I currently live in Bermuda and if there are any Go players out there traveling to or currently residing there I'd be down for a few games, I have a go board + stones.

Easiest way to pick up the basic rules and gameplay is through:

The Interactive Way to Go: http://playgo.to/iwtg/en/

Its also available in 32 other languages: http://playgo.to/iwtg/

Beyond that I recommend 9x9 games, on Windows download yourself a free copy of iGoWin: http://www.smart-games.com/igowin.html or on OSX or Linux check out GnuGo.

There's also a Linux live cd/distro with lots of learning tools by the name of Hikarunix: http://senseis.xmp.net/?Hikarunix

muloka··on Michael Stonebraker: Why Enterprises Are Uninterested in NoSQL?
In terms of the adoption of NoSQL databases (or any dev technology) within your enterprise, write a small and useful app as a side project in your spare time. Once you're done present it to your manager (or team lead) and I'm sure it'll increase its chance of it becoming more widely used within said company.
muloka··on Michael Stonebraker: Why Enterprises Are Uninterested in NoSQL?
Earlier CitizenKane made a point about the lack of standards across SQL databases in general. As such migrating from one SQL db to another would probably present just as equally a challenge.

Let me tell you migrating from Informix 9.4 to SQL Server 2005 was no walk in the park.

Your statement reminds me of this quote "A boat is a hole in the water which you throw money into."

This is the general point of view executive committees have of IT. A necessary cost to keep them afloat in the sea of business.

So as much as money is not an issue the bottom line at most enterprises is money. If you figure out how to greatly reduce the overall costs IT, or in this case data storage, the enterprise company you work for will probably appreciate it.

muloka··on Ask HN: Cleaning a MacBook by submerging it in distilled water?
To accelerate the drying process you might want to consider putting it on top of a dehumidifier.

My wife's laptop (black macbook) got drenched with water once and we just took the battery out and placed it on the dehumidifier for a few days and it booted backup. Still works fine even now.

muloka··on Review my new site, EndAnts.com, please. It's supposed to make you happier.
With such a simple registration form, why not just include it on the page?

Also options for OpenID, Facebook Connect, etc would be great as it would reduce the need for me to worry about one more username and password.

Less Worry only produces Greater Happiness.
