msk-lywenn··on Official proposal for Type Unions in C#
This comment feels like it's been written 20 years ago. C# runs natively anywhere and this has been true for at least a decade.
msk-lywenn··on Clouds in Video Games
I used that technique, works very nicely
msk-lywenn··on Iconography of the X Window System: The Boot Stipple
A modeline is not like reprogramming a firmware or anything, it’s just settings on how to move the electron beam. I don’t know what I did, but it probably moved too far or something, It wouldn’t show anything else but brown
msk-lywenn··on Iconography of the X Window System: The Boot Stipple
I did break a beautiful compaq 21" CRT by setting an unconventional modeline to play gradius in mame in its original resolution. It was glorious. But it dropped a big brown screen from time to time. Until I understood why/when it turned brown. But it was too late.

msk-lywenn··on The Swift compiler is slow due to how types are inferred
What's wrong with Swift's LSP?
msk-lywenn··on Swift Static Linux SDK
And supposedly, the compiler transforms the Arc in Rc or even removes it entirely if it can prove to be fine. I still did not check if there is a tool that tells you what was optimized and the reason why something wasn't.

Would you happen to have a breakdown on how to flash the gpu?
msk-lywenn··on Anonymous Source Shared Leaked Google Search API Documents
In some way, didn't Google become Alta Vista?
msk-lywenn··on Looking Glass launches new 3D displays
They advertise 45-100 viewers simultaneously. Is it really the same kind of tech? IIRC the 3DS worked for only one viewer and you'd better stay right in front of it if you didn't want to experience cross-eye.
msk-lywenn··on GDPR: Is It Worth It?
I always click no and the websites do work. What do you mean?
msk-lywenn··on Adobe Photoshop Source Code (2013)
Nothing wrong, just surprised
msk-lywenn··on Adobe Photoshop Source Code (2013)
You mean current photoshop includes pascal code?
msk-lywenn··on GxHash is a fast and robust non-cryptographic hashing algorithm
how does it fare against murmurhash?

edit: I did the work myself as I should have in the first place, although I'm tired.

msk-lywenn··on APNIC: Big Tech’s use of carrier-grade NAT is holding back internet innovation
This was maybe three four years ago. That might be it. I lack rDNS but I have everything else. Except for MTA-STS, I’ll check that out
msk-lywenn··on APNIC: Big Tech’s use of carrier-grade NAT is holding back internet innovation
You can’t. When my ISP switched me to CGNAT, I spent days upgrading everything to IPv6, only to discover that gmail didn’t even support it! (Mail Server to mail server, not the web app) I gave up, asked my ISP IPv4 back and, fortunately, got back a new IPv4. But I fear the day that option will disappear…
msk-lywenn··on 12to11 – run Wayland applications on an X server
Not to be confused with 11on12 which runs direct3d 11 apps on d3d12
msk-lywenn··on Descent 3 Source Code
The source includes AngelScript. Is it actually used by the game?
msk-lywenn··on Radxa Rock 5 ITX: 8-Core ARM Mini ITX Board with LPDDR5 RAM
This is aimed at desktop use. I guess it would be hard to mount if it was smaller than mini-ITX spec and/or wouldn't mount firmly on some/many desktop cases.
msk-lywenn··on Unlocking the NES (For Former Dawn) (2022)
If I get this right, it's not extending the background tiles from 256 to 1024 but making them bigger. So you'd end up with 256 16x16 tiles rather than 8x8 one. It's super interesting but not as flexible as 1024 8x8 tiles. Hopefully you can make it someday!
msk-lywenn··on Xz: A microcosm of the interactions in open source projects
No. But if the maintainer is burning out and doesn't have free time available for it, paying them so they can take time off to actually work on the thing is a nice way of fixing issues.
msk-lywenn··on Show HN: A (marginally) useful x86-64 ELF executable in 466 bytes
it's not (and I don't think it's supposed to)
msk-lywenn··on Sega Saturn Architecture – A practical analysis (2021)
Well the two vector coprocessors (vu0, vu1) each talking to a different processor (cpu or "gpu") was quite weird, imho.
msk-lywenn··on Sega Saturn Architecture – A practical analysis (2021)
I think you mean PS2 and PS3. Dreamcast was rather easy. One might even say, a dream to program for.
msk-lywenn··on Nanofont3x4: Smallest readable 3x4 font with lowercase (2015)
It's 7 pixels high, like most games on that platform, because it fits with the 8x8 tiling system (if you had the space between lines)

msk-lywenn··on Feature: Morphcat Games, the New-Gen NES Devs Pushing the 8-Bit Envelope
Broke Studio, the publisher, is french. Morphcat Games, the developer whom this article is mostly about, is german.
msk-lywenn··on The killer app of Gemini Pro 1.5 is using video as an input
I like how the article points out the token consumption at each step. Do we have an idea of how much energy is actually used by each token?
msk-lywenn··on Building the DirectX shader compiler better than Microsoft?
As you pointed out, it’s really not a problem. However, the article points out at the end the real interesting bit: cross building from any OS/arch.
msk-lywenn··on Building the DirectX shader compiler better than Microsoft?
With the phrasing of the article, I immediately thought it must have been something simple/dumb. I quickly thought MD5 so I looked at the magic numbers in the C code and looked them up on wikipedia. Then I noticed the four F G H I functions. Still I’m not sure it is (maybe it’s something common in hashes?) and I still don’t know what the change is
