msh··on France to ban unsolicited telemarketing calls
I dont think unknown numbers should be allowed at all, esp for business. I think its a reasonable requirement that if a business wants to call someone they are willing to identify them self.
msh··on Show HN: We Fixed UniFi's Slow PPPoE Performance with PPPoE Half-Bridge
In my country it was even worse, most dsl use PPPoATM.
msh··on GrapheneOS protections against data extraction from locked devices
I dont understand why people like a journalist working on things they dont want seized would carry this kind of data on their device at a situation like this (border crossing), I see it as more useful to remove that kind of data from the device first.
msh··on Harddrive Is Probably Full
My photo library is around 700 gb.
msh··on Country went 100% electric vehicles overnight with a drastic approach
Lots of on street/car park charging, if there is government will it does not seem like much of a problem.
msh··on HMD Touch 4G
Those android phones will have a abysmal performance. I don’t know this device but it’s perfectly possible that a feature phone like this will provide good performance for its limited feature set on much lower specs.
msh··on Setting up your spare Mac for Claude Code to control, a step-by-step guide
Same here
msh··on NotebookLM is now Gemini Notebook
notebook LM is still much much better at not hallucinating compared to claude and chatgpt.
msh··on Jurassic Park computers in excruciating detail
On the other hand he also did a ‘climate change is fake’ book (state of fear).
msh··on Nokia’s years of mobile-phone supremacy ended in an afternoon
Reviewers were nice to it because they knew it was DOA.

It did have some good sides but it was in most ways worse than comparable iPhones and androids.

msh··on Nokia’s years of mobile-phone supremacy ended in an afternoon
Nokia was already in deep trouble before windows phone. If they did not go windows phone they would have ended up a android OEM (still better for them than what ended up happening) but there was no realistic way for them to "domination" at that point. That would have required them to change strategy years before they first saw the iphone.
msh··on Unauthenticated RCE in Motorola's MR2600 Router
But if it’s the isp delivered router they should carry the responsibility
msh··on Proton AG Services is currently experiencing some issues
My bank will send nothing other than notifications to check their secure message server to my email.
msh··on Proton AG Services is currently experiencing some issues
I used to be a mailbox.org customer. I find the proton webmail much much better usability wise.
msh··on How to Build a Minimal ZFS NAS Without Synology, QNAP, TrueNAS (2024)
Is snooty a autocorrect for Synology or some other product?
msh··on OpenWrt One – Open Hardware Router
Less congestion in WiFi dense environments like apartment buildings due to the additional bandwidth and improved efficiency
msh··on FBI Seizes NetNut Proxy Platform, Popa Botnet
This was more like a fraud where they misled end users into running proxies.
msh··on FBI Seizes NetNut Proxy Platform, Popa Botnet
It certainly should be when the end users are not doing it on purpose.
msh··on Why Switzerland has 25 gbit internet and America doesn't
25 gigabit might be overkill for now as there is not a lot of end user equipment supporting it but 22 megabit would be painful for me.

My family have a number of gaming PC's and a playstation, downloading a game is easily 40-60 gigabytes so the difference between 22 megabit and a gigabit makes a huge change in usability.

22 megabit is also not really enough for 4K streaming (netflix 4K is 15-25 megabits, the better ones is even more).

msh··on ZCode – Harness for GLM-5.2
They give you much better quotas, on the 20USD plan using opus you will quickly run into limits.
msh··on ZCode – Harness for GLM-5.2
Seriously, you dont see any difference? A agent is non deterministic and may delete or change you data as a normal matter of operations. A browser, barring bugs or security issues, would not delete or modify the data you have outside the browser.
msh··on Framework's 10G Ethernet module exposes USB-C's complexity
Running plex/jellyfin :)
msh··on Extreme Heat conference cancelled due to extreme heat warning
That seems to not hold up when checking. Fx according to https://daikinquebec.net/en/heat-pump/air-vs-water-vs-geothe...

Air2air have a cop of 2.5 - 3.2 while air2water it’s 3.0 to 3.5

msh··on Extreme Heat conference cancelled due to extreme heat warning
The uk gets cold enough that a air to water heatpump is a better heating solution.
msh··on Danish privacy activist Lars Andersen raided by police
Since 1945 12 cops have been killed in the line of duty (excluding traffic accidents), mostly when responding to a violent crime (trying to stop bank robberies lead to 6 of those fatalities).
msh··on Danish privacy activist Lars Andersen raided by police
It would still (in most cases, your response have to be proportional to the threat) be a crime to use them against a intruder.
msh··on Curl will not accept vulnerability reports during July 2026
yeah, when denmark switched from loosing first days pay to the first day also being paid sick rates dropped more than enough to pay for it.
msh··on A low-carbon computing platform from your retired phones
Only if the software gets slower. My 2015 MacBook Air is slow with the latest supported macOS but runs Linux super snappy for the same tasks.
msh··on Apple reveals new AI architecture built around Google Gemini models
But then third party apps can force users to accept this before they work (here I am especially thinking of school and work apps that people might be forced to use).
msh··on Nvidia RTX Spark
For me this feature is worth upgrading over: https://www.jeffgeerling.com/blog/2025/you-can-finally-manag...
