If you need an ML engineer (pytorch or ggml) email hz4944554@gmail.com

I have side projects in Rust, Javascript, C and many other languages. I've worked back end, front end, embedded, built massive web-scale distributed systems and one off prototypes.

Yes I'm short apple (as of August 2025 $206 average price)

msgodel··on The untold impact of cancellation
Yes that is precisely what I meant.

Free speech is not the same as freedom to falsely accuse. Libel is absolutely illegal and has been since before the US was a country. Allowing things like this to happen means men and women formally socializing with eachother except in really limited or alternatively psychopathic ways isn't practical. It needs to stop and the only possibilities are

a) Just exclude women entirely like we used to.

b) Punish them very harshly for lying.

I think most people would be more upset by a than b. I hope the feminists and egalitarians realize that this is the pro feminism argument as the only practical alternative is to return to a formally patriarchal society. If people can't appreciate the point I'm making then I suppose we'll end going with a which is unfortunate. Everyone who doesn't will eventually be cancelled by the same group of people they're aiming to support.

msgodel··on The untold impact of cancellation
Alternatively you could identify the minority of people who tend to start riots and exclude them from society since they're almost always outsiders who resent being outsiders.
msgodel··on Palantir gets $10B contract from U.S. Army
We don't need military supremacy in Asia, Asia isn't part of the US and the Asians should have supremacy there. Anything else is insane.
msgodel··on The untold impact of cancellation
I think the correct thing to do is to punish accusers of provably false allegations as harshly as the accused would be.

You might say "this will have a chilling effect on legitimate accusations" and you might be right, but the situation is bad enough now that it's created a pretty extreme chilling effect on socialization in general.

EDIT: I don't normally do this but argue your point. If you continue playing games like down voting very reasonable ideas that you disagree with eventually all of us are going to come together and leave you out of the discussion entirely.

We're just going to have to agree to disagree here.
msgodel··on Palantir gets $10B contract from U.S. Army
Anti-NATO is left wing now?
msgodel··on Ask HN: Where can I talk and discuss controversial topics?
If it's that bad you'll probably have to go somewhere anonymous like 4chan. Although quite frankly HN is very tolerant. Unless you're worried about employment or something like that you can get away with posting pretty much anything here provided it's respectful.
msgodel··on Ask HN: Where can I talk and discuss controversial topics?
I think HN would be fine if flagging weren't abused and/or it didn't automatically hide posts.
msgodel··on Denver rent is back to 2022 prices after 20k new units hit the market
Yeah everyone involved in that should have been shot. That's part of what led to the situation we have today.

It's easier to just make a list and torrent.
msgodel··on U.S. senators introduce new pirate site blocking bill, "Block BEARD"
Wow they haven't even finished the porn blocking stuff and they're already starting with the web-wide corporate censorship.
msgodel··on MacBook Pro Insomnia
See if this were happening on Linux I'd just rip out rtcwake and anything else that touches sleep other than s2ram.

Ripping things you don't like out of the OS when it misbehaves is very underrated.

msgodel··on AI is a floor raiser, not a ceiling raiser
You'll find many people lack the willpower and confidence to even get on the floor though. If it weren't for that they'd already know a programming language and be selling something.
msgodel··on The Rising Cost of Child and Pet Day Care
More and more you can get the most value out of just attending to your own problems rather than specializing and outsourcing.
msgodel··on Vibe code is legacy code
People are focusing on the artifacts because they can't point to the theory in the physical world, but it's the theory and its correspondence to the artifacts that they actually want.
msgodel··on Ask HN: Why do so many developers dislike C when I find it inspiring?
I really don't like how they always try to do everything on the heap. Realizing how memory worked in Rust was a pretty major letdown given how it's sold.
msgodel··on Ask HN: Why do so many developers dislike C when I find it inspiring?
I think if you learned to program 20 years ago or more you're likely to be faster at C than Python unless you jumped on Python in the Python2 days or earlier.

For me it's pretty hard to get in the flow with Python because I keep having to stop and read the documentation. I think this is just a personal thing but it's possible that Python may just be a significantly more complex language and that's driving some of it. I'm sure I'm not the only one like this.

There was a string heavy app I wrote years ago and I had multiple false starts in Python and then one day I just said "this needs to get done" and plowed through it in C nearly one shot in a couple hours. I've experienced this kind of thing multiple times. It's a little hard to really communicate how this feels.

EDIT: Yeah I think it really depends. I certainly do a lot of heavy numerical/ML stuff in Python just because that's where the libraries are (and IMO the libraries being written in python isn't a coincidence, it's a fantastic language for that.)

It's not just "string handling algorithms" though. I've written an entire web browser in straight C and it was mostly just walking through standards and coding. Maybe some of it is familiarity but I think part of the lack of familiarity comes from C just not having complex built-in data structures. There's no hashmap in C. There are no iterators in C etc. There's a tiny standard library to become familiar with and that's about it.

msgodel··on Maru OS – Use your phone as your PC
I use Artix on everything these days. It used to Alpine (and before that I was just making my own distros because I didn't like the decisions eg Debian was making.)
msgodel··on YouTube to be included in Australia's social media ban for children under 16
Yeah TV is particularly nasty. I can't believe how much I was shielded from as a kid. They didn't have the theory totally right and a lot of it was based on their feelings but that seems to work plenty well enough.
msgodel··on Most Illinois farmland is not owned by farmers
There are plenty of countries that don't like capitalism. If you don't like it you can move to one of those. You can even go somewhere like the UK if you don't want to give up the US's anglo/protestant culture.
msgodel··on YouTube to be included in Australia's social media ban for children under 16
My parents denied me all kinds of things my friends were doing when I was a kid and looking back they were absolutely right to do that. Don't be afraid of that.

Sure they made mistakes here and there. The names of Pokemon aren't actually names of demons. Looking where a lot of my friends ended up though I think they got things right on balance.

msgodel··on YouTube to be included in Australia's social media ban for children under 16
This is going to break yt-dlp.

YouTube won't fight it for that reason. It's regulatory capture.

msgodel··on Show HN: Cant – Library written in Rust that provides PyTorch-like functionality
Oh that's pretty elegant. Good job.
msgodel··on Maru OS – Use your phone as your PC
There are a lot of people who are not "goo goo ga ga" level users and really need a device.

I've switched to UMPCs because the constant lies and intentional breakage from smartphone vendors drove me up the wall.

msgodel··on Ask HN: Why is "Tea" still on the App Store after so many data breaches?
They didn't even instrument the apps during review for the longest time. I think they recently started using an HTTP proxy to watch the connections they make.

People put way more trust in the review process and app store gate keeping than it deserves.

msgodel··on Maru OS – Use your phone as your PC
I ran Ubuntu Touch briefly on a Nexus 5 as well. IIRC the two issues I had were:

1) calls and MMS not working well.

2) Instead of a normal GNU/Linux OS Ubuntu Touch tried really hard to have an Android style immutable OS. Kind of the worst of both worlds since you have a difficult to work with OS but without the app ecosystem of Android that some people believe makes it worth using.

After that I kind of just gave up on the idea that I owned my phone at all and a few years later I gave up carrying smartphones entirely.

msgodel··on St. Paul, Minnesota Hobbled by Cyberattack, Prompting National Guard Response
Historically accelerationists have been communist rather than fascist. I guess we've recreated the "globalist democracy" goal of communism using capitalism so now the reactionary movements are fascist.

Kind of an interesting situation.

msgodel··on Microsoft bans LibreOffice developer's account without warning, rejects appeal
There's a good reason they're called unicorns. That's not a strategy you should adopt for any business that's actually important to you.
msgodel··on A month using XMPP (using Snikket) for every call and chat (2023)
They require push notifications to be signed with your certificate. You must maintain the infrastructure to do this yourself because you can't share the certificate with third parties (obviously) and downtime will mean no push notification delivery.

I have no idea if that's in the guidelines but that's how it works.

msgodel··on A month using XMPP (using Snikket) for every call and chat (2023)
Nope. You can do push with XMPP just like everything else. The problem is that Apple demands open source client maintainers also personally maintain infrastructure with high availability to handle the push notifications rather than allowing them to delegate that to service operators where it belongs.

Apple is aggressively hostile to open source is the problem. IMO their behavior is why we don't have any nice open source chat apps like we did before the iPhone became popular.
