mschonfeld··on Bitcoinica hacked. ~$100k USD stolen.
Were they warned in a general sense? Or were they specifically targeted?
mschonfeld··on Compare Payment Gateway Fees [PayPal, Square, Dwolla, etc]

Oops. Fix coming up now...

The whole point of this is to be as neutral as possible. If you look at the source code, which is btw available on github (https://github.com/Dwolla/fees-calculator), you'll see that I haven't hard coded anything. Which means that if one of the other gateways happens to be cheaper for a given scenario, they will be on top.

I understand where you're coming from, but again, the whole point was to try and stay neutral.

mschonfeld··on Its official. MongoDB loves Node.js
Ahh finally! Great work guys!

mschonfeld··on Occupy Geeks Are Building a Facebook for the 99%
I'm guessing one that would be based in a foreign (and preferably hostile) country?
mschonfeld··on Occupy Geeks Are Building a Facebook for the 99%
... And there I was all this time, thinking the 1% isn't even on Facebook..
mschonfeld··on 3.3 million e-mails between the most powerful men are about to be released.
Haha if stratfor bothered to encrypt anything, I trust that they would keep the encryption keys in their home folder in a file called "ENCRYPTION KEY.PRIVATE"

Military prison, European jail, fleeing and hiding in south America, etc...
mschonfeld··on Specialforces.com Site Hacked
I think that beyond customer perception, there is an actual question of legal liability here. If GoDaddy is purporting to be an expert in security and selling a service, that is supposed to ensure security, then they should be found liable for some degree malpractice.

I'd love to get a real lawyer's opinion on this...

mschonfeld··on Specialforces.com Site Hacked
To what extent do you think GoDaddy should be held liable for?
mschonfeld··on Specialforces.com Site Hacked
Notice how they have 2 godaddy badges. The one of the right is the SSL one, as you're describing. The one on the left however, actually reads: "Hacker Proof... Scanned by...".
mschonfeld··on Specialforces.com Site Hacked
Right. It really is just asking for trouble. Especially when your "guarantor" is a well known script kiddie...

I haven't downloaded the dump files yet, but from what I can tell, their entire db was stolen. Meaning, customers' names, emails, addys, credit cards, etc. But most importantly, they were able to decrypt the customers' passwords back into plain text, too...
mschonfeld··on Facebook Keeps A History Of Pokes, Along With A Lot Of Other Data
Shocking.

Gotta appreciate some sense of humor.. Even when it comes in the expense of other coders ;)

Funny thing is - as a VPS hosting solution, they're actually pretty decent... If this is intentional, and I do believe it is, its border line genius. Way to go for catching this.
mschonfeld··on Surprise B.ag wants to celebrate your birthday 12 times a year
Unfortunately, not just yet... But - That's definitely a feature we're planning to add soon!
mschonfeld··on Surprise B.ag wants to celebrate your birthday 12 times a year
Hey guys! This is my latest weekend project... I was hoping to get your feedback and comments about it...

The idea is simple: Surprise Bag is a subscription service, thats sends you a surprise bag once a month. You never know what you're gonna get.. But its always gonna be something cool!

mschonfeld··on Ask HN: Beauty/Fashion Investors?
I'm not familiar with them.. And, google isn't proving helpful with finding them. Could you please point me to their website?
mschonfeld··on Presenting OpenBooth: Open Source Webcam PhotoBooth
So here's a quick overview on how OpenBooth came to life:

Our site is mainly based on user photo submissions, and so we decided that having a photobooth would help us by making it easier for users to submit their original content. Naturally, we searched the net for some cool open-source webcam projects, but with the exception of 1 product that would have cost us over $5,000, we found nothing that suit our needs.

So, we decided to create OpenBooth - a fully customizable Photobooth Flash application. Check it out, and feel free to use it in your own site!

mschonfeld··on Plugin/Website suggestion for HN
that's actually a great idea..
mschonfeld··on Did YC pay our site a visit?
I guess I wasn't aware of any etiquette about not posting IP addresses. No harm meant... Is there a way to actually edit, or delete a post for that matter?
mschonfeld··on HN Submit - Firefox add on that lets you quickly submit the page you're on
The extension adds an item that reads "Submit to HN" to your context menu (right-click).. Is it not visible for you?
mschonfeld··on HN Submit - Firefox add on that lets you quickly submit the page you're on
The reason we made this was because we hate using the bookmarks bar.. It takes away valuable viewport space.. Cheers!
