mscasts··on Ask HN: Do US companies regret entering China?
I know of a Swedish company that made a deal with a Chinese company, the Swedish company no longer exist.
mscasts··on Margrethe Vestager stays on as EU competition head in blow for tech giants
As an European I am happy over this. It feels like companies like Microsoft, Google, Facebook etc only really care about what the US Government has to say and it's good that the EU show these companies clearly that they have to play nice if they are going to exist in the European market.
mscasts··on Mumble: Open-Source, Low Latency High Quality Voice Chat
Mumble is great but the UX is unfortunately a bit too complicated. There is too much setup so it's hard to convince people to use it over Discord for example.

It's like an old java framework of VoIP, it is technically good and fast but the user experience is bad enough that you went with the more beautiful Ruby on Rails.

mscasts··on A girl helps you improve your mental health with her app
There is literally no information about how the app helps people. Only about her favorite apps and books?
mscasts··on ProjectPSX – A C# coded emulator of the original Playstation
Very cool work, good job!
mscasts··on Google Meet
Google has become the DJ Khaled of chat apps, "another one".
mscasts··on Don’t Trust Facebook with Your Love Life
Yes but I don't think most people care about being advertised to like that. That is why they keep using Facebook.

You don't have to convince me, I deleted my account years ago.

mscasts··on Don’t Trust Facebook with Your Love Life
This is a pretty bad article imo. I don't trust Facebook with anything and they make a fair point that they are not monetizing the service which probably means they are collecting data from it to use in some way that is not yet clear for the general population.

But this is basically what Facebook already does, so if you already have a Facebook account and trust Facebook with that data I don't see a reason to trust them further.

mscasts··on Web Components could replace frontend frameworks?
I use lit-html and it is more than enough for our needs!
mscasts··on Software Won’t Fix Boeing’s ‘Faulty’ Airframe
Me too, I have booked a trip in the US this summer and I will check every flight in the US to not be of the MAX type.

I don't think any trip are, but if they are I will not fly that one.

mscasts··on How does Apple keep secrets so well? (2012)
Interesting read but it doesn't really answer the question.
mscasts··on Mark Zuckerberg Promised a Clear History Tool Almost a Year Ago
Maybe it's time for south park to do another one of these, but with Zuckerberg as the star:

mscasts··on Leukemia Has Won
Incredible sad read and I wish you the best of luck if any journey is ahead of you. We will all come pretty soon after you! Wordpress is an awesome tool and project. I don't know you or your work but I'm sure it's just awesome. Thanks for improving the open source world for us with your skills!

Whenever faced with death in my life, I have always found comfort in Richard Dawkins wonderful speech.

I hope you'll do the same.

mscasts··on Apple, Google criticised for Saudi Absher app that tracks women
No that is not what I am saying. I am for the ban of this app since they already block less offensive things like porn.

It would be double standard to allow a muslim app to control real human beings but block porn.

mscasts··on Activision-Blizzard layoffs after reporting record results
> Fair PVP and Personal Loot are both rapidly becoming genre standard, since the only people who complain are griefers/trolls.

Or people who simply thinks everything being fair all the time is boring. Guess why free for all, super unfair battleroyale games is so popular? Fair is boring and has always been boring.

> Both games are painfully easy when you're starting out. I think Diablo 1 is the only game in the franchise that was even slightly challenging in the first half?

I am too young to have played D1, but I remember D2 first act being very hard. Dying many, many times starting out and the first act boss was very hard. In d3, its pretty much impossible to die the first time you play through it. Since I like playing hardcore, it's not even a bit frightening.

I don't know if these things existed when it came out, haven't really played d3 since then. But I just thought D3 was much more linear with a narrow path to push forward. I think it could be the artwork, often you are on some mountain, bridge or something like it with a background of something that is far away making it feel like you're on a narrow path.

I don't really care if it is narrow though, it's the other stuff that is so frustratingly annoying. Blizzard has forgotten how to make fun games. That is why you will probably see surge to World of Warcraft: Classic because it is like most their other games, much better in it's classic form than the shit we have today.

mscasts··on Reddit Transparency Report 2018
I feel like reddit nowadays needs a transparency report for their own actions. I don't know what happened to reddit, but it isn't so transparent anymore.
mscasts··on Activision-Blizzard layoffs after reporting record results
I think the following is what's wrong:

- no pvp and if there is pvp nowadays from blizz its always arena-type pvp where everything is super fair. Boring.

- personal loot instead of free for all

- Compared to D2, diablo 3 felt too cartoony and light.

- Story sucked compared to diablo 2. Not the same feeling or suspense at all. I still remember what several in-game characters and bosses say in d2. I don't even remember half the bosses in d3 or even what happens in later acts. I don't care for the characters at all.

- It is way, way too easy the first time you play it.

I also felt that the world felt more locked down or more narrow for some reason. The d2 world was very open in comparison.

mscasts··on US iPhone users spent, on average, $79 on apps last year, up 36% from 2017
So there is no way for you to buy anything of the appstore?
mscasts··on Apple, Google criticised for Saudi Absher app that tracks women
They already block porn because it's sensitive in the US. Games where you shoot people in the head or drive people over is okay though. I can't see how this differs.
mscasts··on HTTP/3 explained
Good point. What about Windows support?
mscasts··on Ask HN: What podcast has been most influential on your life?
I haven't heard that one since I don't know who Jack Dorsey is. :)
mscasts··on Ask HN: What podcast has been most influential on your life?
Joe Rogan definately. Not even a competition. The long format with interesting people is hard to beat. I love how he doesn't try and smear people when he does the interviews. Of course, I don't listen to every episode but he releases them so often so there is always something interesting to hear about.

Joe Rogan is how journalists should be like.

mscasts··on HTTP/3 explained
Many, many sites haven't even started migration to http/2 yet. Why should I care about http/3 now? It seems kind of far in the future.
mscasts··on Want to Stop Fake News? Pay for the Real Thing
It's just not the NYT, really. It is most of the media companies. I don't live in the US but here it's even worse because it's all one-sided. At least you guys have options.
mscasts··on New study: Google manipulates users into constant tracking
I have an iPhone 8 actually, but the screen is broken. Recently switched to an Samsung, which I now kind of regret.
mscasts··on New study: Google manipulates users into constant tracking
I will lookup LineageOS, thank you.
mscasts··on New study: Google manipulates users into constant tracking
Jeez, that is truly terrifying. I hate Google even more now.

I can see my history years back. It seems that I cannot delete it just "pause" it? Seriously?

EDIT: Found it, it was just hidden several layers down.

mscasts··on New study: Google manipulates users into constant tracking
Well, I just turn my location services off. I can't stand the Apple ecosystem even if I have to give them a huge props that they take integrity way more seriously than Google.

Maybe I should invest in a dumb phone.

mscasts··on New study: Google manipulates users into constant tracking
This is scary stuff. Thank you norway for taking the fight against Google.

How can you turn this off on an android?

mscasts··on Want to Stop Fake News? Pay for the Real Thing
My country (Sweden) has a state-sponsonsored news outlet. It is one of the most biased ones.

Several other countries in Europe has the same model and it just doesn't work.
