mrmlz··on U.S. reenters the nuclear fuel game
Haha well then, just build some more why don't ya.

Fucking mong.

mrmlz··on I'm calling from Israeli intelligence. We have orders to bomb. You have 2 hours
Very civil of them!

I'd prefer a heads-up before someone had planned on bombing my house.

I wonder if Hamaz would extend the same courtesy?

mrmlz··on A giant European telescope rises as U.S. rivals await rescue
Well operating a highly custom and very expensive is going to have astronomical operating costs as well.
mrmlz··on Israel to test Iron Beam laser system on Hamas missiles
Yeah I remember New years eve when the neighboring streets launched rockets that maimed and killed my friends and family.
mrmlz··on Russian erotic webcam sites hit by Ukraine war
Damn, that's horrible... This warrants a deeper investigation!

mrmlz··on "A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer" Simulated by GPT-4
I learned so many random bits of information from that book.. Just the amount of work that goes into laying underwater fiber!

He wrote a article about it later (or before?)

Great read!

mrmlz··on The midwit home
And the best thing is that they speak zigbee and you can ditch their hubs and use homeassistant if you want to avoid any lock-in!

I've actually had two Ikea Trådfri switches break though - they are cheap enough to replace but bit bothersome.

mrmlz··on The midwit home
You are absolutely correct. It is a horrible mess.

Which is why Homeassistant is a godsend - you can add the mess and present it in a sensible way. As long as you stay the fuck away from anything cloud you are pretty much golden no matter what the parent company decides to do.

E.g. Telldus had a huge range of 433mhz things that still work IF you avoided their TelldusNet or whatever.

mrmlz··on Is the end of AIDS in sight?
I'm not sure this is the GREAT COMEBACK you'd hoped for.
mrmlz··on Electric vehicle battery causes fire at Sydney Airport, destroys five cars
"bit harder" is a bit (haha) of an understatement.
mrmlz··on We always end up with waterfall
Sure time estimation in developmentprojects is hard (impossible?), but thats hard in both waterfall and agile or whatever.

But the often used CER -> PDR -> CDR -> TRR etc. is damn useful.

mrmlz··on We always end up with waterfall
Hah yeah i guess you can interpret it like that, but i give the same leeway to agile when they skip the retros and the planning before the sprints etc. You cant blame the process if you dont even make an attempt of adhering to it :)
mrmlz··on We always end up with waterfall
I'm not really sure what you are arguing. Of course if its a one man job (or a couple) and the .. product or whatever isn't system/safety critical even having a PM is probably overkill and the overhead of "any" process likely just wrecks the output.

But if you need to organize 50+ engineers and actually produce a ... product? That people/agencies/customers expect things of you sure as shit is going to need a definable goal, verifiable output and a somewhat chronological way of achieveing that. Waterfall it is (with reasonable iterations).

mrmlz··on We always end up with waterfall
Yeah - I mean, when I wrote the comment I ignored all the absolute disaster-projects I've seen. But those where doomed on so many levels I don't even wanna blame waterfall or agile or the in-betweens.
mrmlz··on We always end up with waterfall
Honestly I've never seen a waterfall model implemented without iterations. And you can always update the top-spec at later date if needed its just more difficult.. Which it should be.
mrmlz··on We always end up with waterfall
Yeah, because waterfall with iterations is better than SCRUM/AGILE/WHATEVER.

God intended water to run from the TOP to the BOTTOM. Don't fight gravity.

mrmlz··on 15-20 more federal holidays
I'd say its true for the majority of engineering work at least.

I saw and ad for a Waffle-house manager with a salary range of 50-55k year.

That's about what I earn as a engineer in Sweden (pre-tax).

mrmlz··on Delta flight lands in Charlotte without front landing gear
Nobody is assuming "extensive maintenance checklists" are _preventing_ serious malfunction. They do however reduce the risk for such events to occur to an acceptable level.

The likelihood for a malfunction is never zero.

mrmlz··on I wrote my own smart home software
I'm currently using AppDaemon for a couple of webparsing-scripts. That has worked just fine without touching it for... well over a year by now.

But i have a nagging feeling that i should probably use PyScript instead.. If anyone has a more thorough analysis i'm open to hear it..

mrmlz··on The World Has Passed ‘Peak Agricultural Land’
If I'm arguing for anything is that the global food production is probably not sustainable.

That doesn't exclude farming, fishing or high-density food-farming (salmon, shrimps etc.). I mean, the number of issues with providing a couple of billion of humans with enough energy and variety in their diet is not insignificant..

A sheep roaming the hills is probably one of the better ways of producing protein..

mrmlz··on The World Has Passed ‘Peak Agricultural Land’
Haha.

The next time you leave for the wilderness, go to a field, go the edge of it and see if you can figure out if there was a reason they didn't expand it further out.

I wouldn't dream of asking you of taking a random commenter at face value.

mrmlz··on The World Has Passed ‘Peak Agricultural Land’
I'm not really arguing for shoveling rainforests to raise sheep on or something.. But if we enjoy the idea of living (and not starving) food produced locally has to adapt to the local lands.. Which in many places allows for a lot of grass -> cattle etc.

So it needing more land is a kinda worthless metric tbh.

mrmlz··on The World Has Passed ‘Peak Agricultural Land’
More than you that's for sure.

About 75% of the diet of a regular Swedish cow is grass or grass-equivalents. The rest is made up of peas, beans, rapeseed and of course various grains.

The grains that go to animal feed usually is not fit for human consumption (well, wouldn't pass QC-controls).

Pigs doesn't really eat grass. Neither does chickens... So it's a bit of a different animal (HAHAHA) to farm chickens/pigs vs cows.

mrmlz··on The World Has Passed ‘Peak Agricultural Land’
Maybe it is about soil composition, something you don't see in a picture?

But sure, keep on looking at a picture of grass and decide that the land is suitable for other crops.

mrmlz··on The World Has Passed ‘Peak Agricultural Land’
What other use for the land have YOU explored?

If you could grow something more valuable than grass on a piece of land you can be quite sure that most farmers would.
