mrmlz··on Starlink Defies Order to Block X in Brazil
? Why would it be suppressed for 99%?

Yeah its harder to censor people out in the open. FB and Zuck hid it - but i believe he recently said he regretted doing that.

I dont see how hiding your motivation and allowing free speech is in fact anti-free-speech.

Why do you see it as an attack? You are arguing that brazil has the right to limit free speech and that Elon should comply and censor his platform. That is what they've done in many countries, DDR for example. Do you not agree?

mrmlz··on Starlink Defies Order to Block X in Brazil
I guess you would be on the barricades fighting for DDRs right to suppress free speech as well.

I take whatever victories I can. I don't care about his motives, I'm sure they are nefarious or money related. But that doesn't matter. I don't care about his motivation I care about the results.

mrmlz··on Starlink Defies Order to Block X in Brazil
And I disagree with him only allowing right wing radicals and banning left wing radicals.
mrmlz··on Starlink Defies Order to Block X in Brazil
No (I have no idea who he has banned or not) but that sounds like a powertrip!
mrmlz··on Starlink Defies Order to Block X in Brazil
I dont care about his motives - why should i ?
mrmlz··on Starlink Defies Order to Block X in Brazil
Haha - oh no, he is going to far with allowing free speech. The sender and the tone is more important to you I guess?
mrmlz··on Why won't some people pay for news? (2022)
But it all comes down to the execution of it. Sweden has a Public Service thats financed by a tax-like-system.

Swedish public service is imho very bad. Its shallow, narrow, angled and generally never (or rarely) leaves you feeling informed. Their debates are laughable, their interviews are short, uninformed (the interviewer is) and is generally closer to gotcha-journalism than whatever a random Youtube-interview is where they get to complete their sentences.

The Swedish PS has an enourmous budget and has very little to show for it. It should be reformed.

You could be doing something useful with your life instead of wandering aimlessly. There are people starving you know.
mrmlz··on Europe's new heavy-lift rocket, Ariane 6, made its inaugural flight
It is absolutely not a "theoretical advantage". America is not an altruistic partner when it comes to strategic products.
mrmlz··on Twitter is now attention roulette and ultimately meaningless
Depends on the topic to be honest and the quality of the post. I consume more varying topics now than i did during the blog-era.

But sure - a well crafted blogpost is wonderful and I miss that. But there was a lot of crap back then aswell.

mrmlz··on Twitter is now attention roulette and ultimately meaningless
Meh, i've read and continue to read many great twitter-threads of linked posts. Sure 10 years ago that might have been a blogg post.

Really the content you get on twitter is 110% dependent on those you follow (on the for-me tab at least), I follow about 90-100 people and you really notice when you follow someone who reposts crap how quickly your feed deteriorates. Its a sensitive beast but can be quite good actually.

mrmlz··on Cosmic Desktop: Hammering Out New Cosmic Features
The year of the linux desktop is closing in! :) Well its good that they are working on it.
mrmlz··on Cosmic Desktop: Hammering Out New Cosmic Features
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/issues/4379

Do they actually generate a thumbnail or do they just show the available ones? Honestly I don't follow the issue I just know that thumbnails have been an absolute mess in gnome as long as I remember.

mrmlz··on Cosmic Desktop: Hammering Out New Cosmic Features
I've been using linux for some 15-20 years depending on how you count. The last 3 i've been using PopOs! as a complete windows replacement. Gaming works great (with the usual caveats) and everything has been a pleasant experience.

I've never been a gnome fan almost always switching to xfce but on PopOs! its alright!

I'm very much looking forward being able to drop Gnome and use Cosmic instead - having thumbnailsupport is going to be an improvement.

mrmlz··on Almost no one cares if your site is not on social media
Elitist.
mrmlz··on The Reddits
Modern Reddit is such a broken experience especially on the web. And honestly the community has degraded over the last couple of years.
mrmlz··on Red Hat to author new Linux driver for Nvidia GPUs in Rust
I've used the prop-drivers for a couple of years now with absolutely zero issues so I'd say so. But I guess your use case might vary. I don't use Wayland.
mrmlz··on Red Hat to author new Linux driver for Nvidia GPUs in Rust
Ah fair enough! https://www.phoronix.com/news/XWayland-Drops-EGLStream
mrmlz··on Red Hat to author new Linux driver for Nvidia GPUs in Rust
So if I design something that works with one vendor but not the other then its their fault?
mrmlz··on Red Hat to author new Linux driver for Nvidia GPUs in Rust
Perhaps Wayland is to blame?
mrmlz··on Even successful studies show how poorly dieting works
Best way to build a dump-truck arse - is hipthrusts!
mrmlz··on Kagi Changelog 2/13: Faster and more accurate instant answers and Wikipedia page
I used them when they first announced their service. Was a nice experience afaik. QWANT is more like internet on hard-mode.. They don't really give you what you're looking for but close enough.. But I've become more dissatisfied with the results of late.

I'll mull the decision for a while but I'm probably going to give Kagi another try.

mrmlz··on Kagi Changelog 2/13: Faster and more accurate instant answers and Wikipedia page
Oh well I don't assume I'm in anyway "anonymous" no matter if I got a username/ipadress/cookie/deep-state-monitoring attached to my searches. Things I html-POST to the web is no longer private.
mrmlz··on Kagi Changelog 2/13: Faster and more accurate instant answers and Wikipedia page
Damnit I was on the narrow path of convincing myself to start paying for Kagi. I've been using QWANT but the search results are a bit off tbh. And they've started doing full-screen ads to turn of my adblock (which well to be fair thats the way they earn their keep).
mrmlz··on The biggest losers: Metabolic damage or constrained energy?
I get what you are saying. And you put forward a nice argument. The problem is that the ANTI-CICO-Crowd takes the stance that "CICO WONT WORK BECAUSE MY CO IS REDUCED HAH TAKE THAT CICO-FUCKTARDS"

Which is stupid.

If you want to loose weight and maintain a reasonable BMI during the long run you need 2 things.

1) A healthy diet, if you are in America this requires a bit of planning, if you live in Europe its easier. Limit the portion size (and if you are fat you don't know what a normal portion size is, look to you skinnier friends for inspiration).

2) Get your heart rate up a couple of times a week. If you are fat this might be the _walk_ to the store. If you are just weak weight training is great. And for 99% you most likely should aim to increase the amount of condition training, brisk walks, joggins, biking, chopping wood whatever.

mrmlz··on The biggest losers: Metabolic damage or constrained energy?
The cope.

What normal human reduces its CO so that you wont lose weight? Are you talking about someone in a coma?

mrmlz··on The biggest losers: Metabolic damage or constrained energy?
That is really shocking - that a diet change that resulted in less calories and an increase in physical exercise led to weight loss! :)
mrmlz··on Writing documentation for your house

Pulls data from Swedish public records - not sure how it handles other countries.

mrmlz··on Writing documentation for your house
The O.G paint-code can be hard to find if its been awhile and exposed to the elements etc.
mrmlz··on U.S. reenters the nuclear fuel game
The problem is scale. Since the other responder didnt want to do napkin math - you could give it a go w.r.t to hydrogen. It gets very very expensive rather quickly. So very expensive you might start to wonder if you shouldn't have built a nuclear plant instead.

Local factories etc. might see a need/use for hydrogen production (Swedish Hybrit comes to mind) but as a national grid stabilizer.. I'm doubtful
