mring33621··on DeepSeek Harness developer preview
I just installed DeepSeek Harness with the latest Bun version and am using it with a local 9B, speculative decoding Qwen 3.x variant, running in llama.cpp and it works GREAT for small python projects, so far.

It was very easy to connect the harness to the local model and it seems to run quite fast, compared to other harnesses that I have tried.

mring33621··on License plate reader searches should require a warrant
"someone broke into my house at exactly [time]. Can you track their license plate and track them down"

Sounds reasonable, but most police departments will not do this, even if the data is available to them and running the query is easy.

They will tell you to file a report, preferably online, which will then be incorporated in local stats, and may also be useful in your interactions with your insurance company.

But they will not do anything to help your specific case.

mring33621··on Hax – a minimalist, terminal-native coding agent written in C
I just built and installed this harness on my MacBook Pro and am very happy with its clean, fast performance with local models and llama.cpp.

Well done, Oleksandr!

I love the website!
mring33621··on Deployah – deploy to Kubernetes from a short spec, no Helm, nothing in-cluster
I was recently scolded for telling my coworkers that they are 'nose blind' to the mess that is our CI/CD 'pipeline'.

Maven, docker buildx, jenkins, github actions, helm, ArgoCD, Tekton, Terraform

It's an often-broken Franken-Goldberg machine

"yaml sucks and templated yaml is insane"

I'm happy to hear that I'm not the only one that thinks this.

mring33621··on OpenAI and Anthropic unite against open-weight AI risks to their bottom line
Some very bad people already have a "button that can harm millions of people".

Some more very bad people are building them.

This democratizes that ability.

Might be good. Might be bad. Might be both.

Fuck you for thinking you know better than everyone else.

mring33621··on OpenAI and Anthropic unite against open-weight AI risks to their bottom line
*ATTENTION*

This is a Big Green Flag for open-weight AI models.

mring33621··on Unlimited AI tokens aren't unlimited after all as US Army burns through supply
Claude, please create a plan to invade Cuba and Iran simultaneously. A related stretch goal is 0 US troop deployments. Thx!
mring33621··on “We have information that Moonshot distilled Fable for the development of K3”
People that think the Chinese are only able to copy western tech are in for a wakeup call.

Actually, that has already happened in many domains, it's just that most western people (USA especially) won't admit it.

mring33621··on Stop Using OpenCode
There are definitely annoyances with OpenCode.

The remote-preferred attitude caught me once. Also, its server APIs don't match its docs, if you want to talk to it programatically.

The following config works for me to keep it on a local model:

{ "$schema": "https://opencode.ai/config.json", "provider": { "local-llama": { "npm": "@ai-sdk/openai-compatible", "name": "Local llama.cpp Server", "options": { "baseURL": "http://localhost:8080/v1" }, "models": { "Chefs Choice": { "name": "ANY" } } }, ...

This allows me to put any model I want on port 8080.

mring33621··on Show HN: GolemUI – Declarative Form Engine
Lots of my previous employers had "data structures to forms" tech. It's very useful.

GolemUI looks like a nice open source version of this idea.

Thank you!

mring33621··on European ISPs Want Rightsholders Held Accountable for Overblocking Damage
Agreed

Enforcement should be a cost/benefit analysis.

RN, there is very little cost imposed on the alleged rightsholders, so they spam freely.

mring33621··on I used Claude Code to get a second opinion on my MRI
i'm sorry, but AIs only "know" about stuff that they have been trained on.

If we would allow AIs to be trained on the petabytes of medical data hidden in hospital systems, they would most likely be much better at diagnosing illnesses and conditions than the average doctor.

(Justifiable) Privacy around medical records so far prevents this.

You think you're cheering for humans, but in fact you are gatekeeping healthcare.

mring33621··on Java's SSLContext protocol name is a footgun
"...So what should you do instead? Well there’s really no good answer here. Probably the best thing to do is to use the generic 'TLS' identifier..."

https://www.wiz.io/, a popular code cyber analysis tool, will flag "TLS" as a SAST issue.

:(

mring33621··on Iran stops negotiations with U.S., vows to 'completely' block Strait of Hormuz
I'm not sure 'Illusion' is the right word, and it should probably read "Trump and Israel and Iran" are unstable.

But, yes

mring33621··on Iran stops negotiations with U.S., vows to 'completely' block Strait of Hormuz
I believe that there are powerful elements in the USA that are happy with the Strait being closed. This is rewarding oil producers and processors in red states while hurting blue California proportionally more.

Also, it appears that Trump enjoys any actions that hurt allies more than they hurt him. He's waiting for someone who cares more about the Strait to devote their resources to sorting this out.

All noise to the contrary is lip-service and market manipulation.
