I don't know what Microsoft is trying to do with Windows 8. I know they intended to make touch a first class citizen but it seems like they've forgotten about the mouse and keyboard.
Its hard to believe that they 'forgot' to turn on optimizations or optimize critical code paths, they simply didn't because they are probably fixing show-stopper bugs which is much more important (I'm saying this as a game developer.)
Part of it I believe is that we are spoiled by title updates, they allow developers to ship games earlier (before extensive QA testing or bug fixes) but at the same time is what the fans want and makes sense financially for their company.
So I doubt these modders can do a better job than the professionals at Bethesda, if anything they can do the trivial things that would take any novice programmer a day with a profiler.
Developers learn new languages all of the time. Instead of worrying about a specific language, learn what's common to all programming languages first (software development cycle, testing, VCS's, etc.) because employers (speaking from my own experience) value those skills rather than knowledge in a particular language.
You might also want to check out IronPython (http://ironpython.net/) which is basically Python for .NET.
Euclideon is asking for money to develop "new" technology that in reality has been done before and does not have any advantages over a polygon based engine. Everything in their demos can be done (if not better) using a polygon based engine and modern GPUs.
Seriously, just watching one of the videos by Euclideon makes me feel like I'm watching late night tv advertisments. If their tech is as "ground breaking" as they claim, surely they wouldn't need to do as much convincing as they currently do in their videos.
