mrharrison··on Add Reactions to Pull Requests, Issues, and Comments
-1 or the thumbs down reaction, I think is a mistake. They aren't usually that constructive, because most of the time they are used as retaliation against a specific user, instead of constructive criticism. If someone downvotes you, you tend to downvote them. At the least, it should be a privilege to down vote, like SO and HN do. http://stackoverflow.com/help/privileges/vote-down
mrharrison··on Open Hunt is shutting down
I agree this at least a one-year commitment. Please, somebody start this back up again. I also don't have the time, otherwise I would.
mrharrison··on A Better Pip Workflow
> I've had nothing but problems with more complex packages

I could say the same things about rubygems. With coding a lot of it is what you are familiar with. To me python and pip is clean and simple, ruby and rubygems is overly complex. But that's because I'm familiar with python, so yeah.

mrharrison··on React Makes You Sad?
Looking to use react because of code cleanliness. Never had a performance problem with angular and have done two apps large apps thus far. I feel like people who have performance problems are just putting too much html on the page, and should rethink their design and rendering philosophy.
mrharrison··on React Makes You Sad?
I want to start using React but I think I'm going to stick with Angular for now. I have all of the gotchas of Angular figured out and I think I want to wait another year for the dust to settle on React. By looking at the flowchart it looks like the React ecosystem is still quite Alpha and learning to grow up.
mrharrison··on Academic Drivel Report: Confessing my sins and exposing my academic hoax
A lot of this could be due to a poor diet. The author or anybody in a similar situation should look into this as well. Eat less carbs to avoid insulin swings, etc. It's amazing how a better diet can affect your mood.
mrharrison··on Discover Flask
Yes I couldn't agree more. I've used both Flask and Django, and with Flask you just recreate everything in Django. Plus the Django community is more vibrant and the Django docs are super good.
mrharrison··on Ask HN: Where can I find an editor for my Medium article?
I'll go ahead and email you. Thanks!
mrharrison··on U.S. tells Google computers can qualify as drivers
I've been following this closely and think we are headed to self driving cars a lot sooner than we think. Obama has been making sure the regulators have been getting the money, GM is working with Lyft to have self driving cars in Austin. http://popsnip.com/topic/882/Selfdriving-cars-race-towards-o...
mrharrison··on US military finds F-35 software is a buggy mess
I wonder if this project has struggled so much, because of the increasing difficulty in acquiring talent and talent getting poached in tech. Perhaps they left for SpaceX. I'm sure a project like this has an intense amount of technical debt that needs a stable workforce in order to churn out a quality product.
mrharrison··on Lodash 4.0.0 is out
Yeah there is no need to drop bower support. I prefer bower over NPM. I don't understand this. Great work by the way.
mrharrison··on YC's 2015 Reading List

mrharrison··on How I became a morning person
I do exactly the same thing. I get half of my work done before anyone shows up, and just cruise the rest of day or leave early. I don't play the game of staying late to make it look like I'm working hard. I let my work speak for itself, which is easy because I feel great in the morning and there is no one to bother me, so the quality speaks for itself.
mrharrison··on Banksy: “Steve Jobs – The Son of a Migrant from Syria”
After seeing all of the cynical comments about, people are people, his Syrian dad didn't raise him, how he was raised, etc.. I had to put in my assumption of why Banksy did this.

He did it to give the Syrians hope of a positive road ahead, to not seek retribution, but to create something great.

mrharrison··on The Best Books I Read in 2015

mrharrison··on List App Founded By Celebs
ok, its a lot of fun.
mrharrison··on List App Founded By Celebs
I really don't understand the problem they are solving. Browse lists of what celebs like to do?
mrharrison··on A $99.99 Surfboard Upends the Industry
I would imagine its the type of board that sits in people's garage and gets used once a year. Once you really get into surfing you then upgrade. People who can really surf wouldn't use something like this. Sorry no data, but this what I see everytime I go out to a break. Beginners on these foam tops, intermediate and advanced on a $600 firewire, CI or vintage custom.
mrharrison··on Show HN: The best of your search results in one post
yeah, you click on the cog to right of the main title and select private.
mrharrison··on Show HN: The best of your search results in one post
Yeah its a similar concept. We hope to make it more consumable and validate the content by others, so that people can see a popsnip post and trust the content instead of having to scour the internet to ensure they have the right answer.
mrharrison··on Show HN: The best of your search results in one post
Hi this is Matt, cofounder of popsnip, we have made popsnip so that you can put the best of your search results in one place for creating highly informative articles. Popsnip allows you to collect the best content you find in the form of text snippets and images and organize them into a wiki like UI.

Here is a quick intro on how to use it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YhHWVMLpGU If you want to start using it, you will need to use the chrome, because it requires an extension.

Please let me know what you think. Any feedback is welcome.

mrharrison··on Is Angular 2.0 ready?
Not true, I still get recruiting emails every week asking for angular experience, which means there is probably a huge group of people locked into the angular framework, and since 2.0 will be backwards compatible, I'm sure a decent amount of people will be switching their angular 1.0 apps to 2.0. It will be easier then converting a whole angular stack to React and figuring out all of the other React libraries and frameworks you need to use.

Learning all of the libraries and frameworks for React is quite complex and not less complex then learning Angular 2.0. with its backwards compatible support.

mrharrison··on Is ReactJS really fast?
From other devs I know they have said React functionality on mobile is quite poor. Drag and drop and scroll, doesn't work as well, because the virtual DOM isn't adapted work to well on mobile. So for that reason, I won't use React, and rather go Vanilla or use Backbone. After getting burned by Angular, I'm really weary to adopt another fancy framework.
mrharrison··on I am thinking of returning my Apple Watch
The watch is pure utility for me. When I ride my bike I get turn by turn directions now, with many other side benefits. I went with the apple watch because I'm already entrenched in the apple ecosystem, otherwise I would consider android gear. I have never thought apple as a status thing. But that may be because most everyone around me has apple gear. (I live in the Bay Area and NYC)
mrharrison··on Gigo: Pip for Go
I usually have to google two to three errors that popup on an npm install --save to get things working and sometimes I don't. Its quite inconsistent, but these issues are probably with node versioning as well. In any case I never have this issue with pip.
mrharrison··on Gigo: Pip for Go
Why is it bad advertising? Pip works all the time for me, where NPM often doesn't work.
mrharrison··on Ask HN: How to manage developers who aren't very good?
If you are stalled on something, AKA blocked in agile terms., then its the job of the scrum master to have people unblock you. Stand ups and agile are put in place to help people. Its sounds like the people in comment thread have had poor scrum masters/managers. I'm an engineer and scrum master and love the process of helping and being helped. Thats the whole point, not accountability.
mrharrison··on Navdy
Its neat, but it's troubling that they really haven't thought it out.

First big problem I see, is that it will be sitting in the sun while driving, so it will quickly overheat and have sun damage over time.

mrharrison··on A Watch Guy's Thoughts on the Apple Watch After Seeing It in the Metal
"Werent watches one of the main things replaced by smartphones"

Weren't watches replaced by watches?

They started off in towers, then to rooms, then to tables, then to pockets and then to wrists. Is this not a similar evolution of computers?

mrharrison··on Secret menus: Fast food 'hacks' for in-the-know customers
The original hack. I remember getting one 14 years ago.
