mrdevlar··on Sal Khan is pioneering innovation in education again
I had the same thing, I relearned all my mathematics from grade school to calculus when I was in my 30s so I could go get a degree. Khan literally changed my life for the better.

I also think his take is the correct one. AI's future in custom education is beyond anything else. It can teach it to you using the concepts you have available.

mrdevlar··on Ask HN: Can Devin genuinely replace the roles of developers?
Yes and they are astroturfing Devin is all over the place.

Several subreddits were overtaken by Devin bots for a few days. When the dust cleared everyone realized what had happened.

And here we are again.

mrdevlar··on Building an AI Coach to Tame My Monkey Mind
I am working on my own AI Therapist right now to assist in the real therapy that I'm undergoing. It runs locally on my own machine, and with some tailscale, I also have access to it on my mobile devices.

I would never use an external system for this. Even ignoring the privacy issues, and they are plentiful, it makes a lot more sense that you tailor the AI therapist to your needs, which most of the time are not generic needs. If you're in a therapy program you probably know those needs better than most people and can concretely ask the AI to assist you in meeting them over a longer period of time.

I'm happy with my system, it's a little clunky still but it is doing the job in assisting my recovery, which is all I want.

mrdevlar··on AI hallucinates software packages and devs download them
An LLM gets things wrong. It's no different than interacting with a person. You will get a confident answer. The difference is you can easily get a second opinion of an LLM without offending it. Hallucinations are unlikely to occur twice in a row. So just ask twice.
