This is precisely the reason why we switched from github to unfuddle. Why should my developers start rationing for repos and start putting everything in one large repository, just so that we don't hit the limit with github. For example, we use node.js heavily, and I would like create npm modules that can be shared across repos, and put them in a repo of their own (so npm can install them). Github's pricing forces me not to do this, and discourages code reuse.

If you put a https proxy in between, you can capture all credit card data and other sensitive information. Use something like Charles on Mac and proxy your phone traffic through it to see this for yourself. No reason to be believe anything is safe if ssl certs are being forged.

But if Nokia can go to the extent of forging SSL, what stops them from using a different User Agent and pass through the block?

We use a slightly modified version of deploy from visionmedia (https://github.com/visionmedia/deploy). Shell script, and works very well for us.

Of course, when doing releases that affect the database schema, we still have to login to the servers.

If you have javascript and don't worry about supporting IE 7, you can possibly defeat any kind of blocking logic that looks for the '<img' tag.

There is no need to get worked up on this - no one is calling into question the great work done on by SN Bose. I don't think the conclusion is correct. First, I have seen mails from Pakistani, Iranian and North Korean scammers as well.

I think the hackers challenge is to present a story that is credible enough. Claiming to be from a country that is perceived to be mismanaged and corrupt by the target audience helps. Linking it to some real event such as some real coup makes it even more credible. But finally, once someone gullible enough follows up - if you have a nigerian accent or ask them to mail to a nigerian account, claiming to be from some other place will make maintaining that credibility very difficult. I believe that is primarily why nigerian scammers pretend to be Nigerian, and Iranian scammers pretend to be Iranian.

As someone who has worked at many startups in India, here are my 2 cents. You chose to work at a startup not in the hope of a glorious exit via some acquisition or an IPO. You work at a startup because you want to surround yourself by really smart people.

When making generalizations, while it is certain that most startups will fail, it is also quite likely that most of your startup coworkers will eventually succeed and go to great places, and when they do, they will take you along if you were any good in the first place. Because one thing that almost guarantees failure is not trying, and you would find a lot of 'not trying, complacent with my good job' people not at the startups, but at the large or middle sized companies past their prime, running on the momentum they picked earlier.

This is what I tell people when I hire them, and believe me, a lot more people are getting this now than a decade ago, when startups were associated with unexpected riches and easy money. That's a lot of hope.

I am finding a few things hard to believe as well. In the commonwealth games, the Indian Government rounded up beggars and sent them out of Delhi. In the Iraq war, GWB banned the media from covering body bags. Every state is guilty of this ,so unless the deliberate crippling part is true, it may just be another exercise in FUD, much like the weapons of mass destruction.
