mountainriver··on AI boom risks global financial crash, warn central bankers
You are really comparing this to Watson??

If you can fully automate software you are fully missing the point of everything you can do with that and how valuable it is

mountainriver··on AI boom risks global financial crash, warn central bankers
Meanwhile AI has gotten so good it can just about one shot a SaaS app.

I’m not worried about it…

mountainriver··on Ford AI hiccups push carmaker to rehire ‘gray beard’ inspectors
Fully red pilled, I literally cannot believe the rhetoric I’ve been hearing inside major companies.
mountainriver··on Turn your site into a place people can bump into each other
I love the idea but all I’m seeing is people saying really explicative things. Hopefully there are better ways of moderating
mountainriver··on Don't trust large context windows
“Memory” systems are a way for developers to feel like they are contributing to AI
mountainriver··on Shall we play a game? My AI nuclear simulation
If we want to train a model excessively on SVGs it will obviously be able to do this. We have only just started trying to do that
mountainriver··on Shall we play a game? – LLMs use tactical nukes in 95% of simulations
I can’t believe anyone still thinks this given their unbelievable ability to write code.

Self awareness? Probably not. Intelligence? You would have to be high to think that’s not the case.

People are feeling threatened, and rightfully so. LLMs are already insanely intelligent and continue to improve

mountainriver··on Shall we play a game? My AI nuclear simulation
Intelligence is the ability to compress information. World models are just one aspect of that
mountainriver··on Shall we play a game? My AI nuclear simulation
Yet it can write code better than 99% of humans…

It’s just starting to be trained on svgs, which is a really hard problem

mountainriver··on Shall we play a game? – LLMs use tactical nukes in 95% of simulations
What’s the difference? It’s clearly processing information and coming up with the right answer
mountainriver··on Anthropic requires 30 day data retention for Fable and Mythos
Can’t wait till that turns into “regulatory capture”
mountainriver··on CEOs who think AI replaces their employees are just bad CEOs
If AI makes you more capable, it’s basically like having a capital injection.

CEOs that look at that and think they need to reduce headcount seem to also be signaling they don’t know what to do with increased resources

mountainriver··on Are you expected to run five Python type-checkers now?
Implementing whole features is? What are we talking about?
mountainriver··on Elixir v1.20: Now a gradually typed language
Pretty close to it, at least Rust for now. I can't tell the difference between asking it to output Rust vs anything else at this point
mountainriver··on Elixir v1.20: Now a gradually typed language
Your app will be demonstrably slower, less efficient, and less reliable than an app written in Rust
mountainriver··on Are you expected to run five Python type-checkers now?
With writing code in english now, why have it use a slow weak language?

ML still has a depth of libraries that can't be replicated easily but ML work is decreasing by the day with LLMs.

mountainriver··on Are you expected to run five Python type-checkers now?
ML is basically the one use case for Python anymore.

And that even shrinks by the day

mountainriver··on MiMo-v2.5-Pro-UltraSpeed: 1T model with 1000 tokens per second
It’s even discouraged now as LLMs wouldn’t have the documentation built in
mountainriver··on Elixir v1.20: Now a gradually typed language
IMO all of these higher level languages that were designed for humans have a very short lifespan at this point.

The only thing propping them up seems to be loyalty for the most part.

mountainriver··on Elixir v1.20: Now a gradually typed language
I’m so happy with switching all my dev over to rust since AI coding. Everyone is lighting fast and super reliable
mountainriver··on Gemma 4 12B: A unified, encoder-free multimodal model
The Qwen series adopted vision wayyy earlier than anyone else. No idea why the other labs were sleeping on it but they had about 2 years of experimentation without any competition.
mountainriver··on Are blue zones real? Answering that question is harder then ever
Blue zones were always just eat healthy, exercise, and having friends.

I believe that these things almost certainly help longevity as a number of independent studies into each of these show that, and it’s intuitively obvious

mountainriver··on Shift from a leader-follower to a leader-leader approach
Really?
mountainriver··on Anthropic surpasses OpenAI to become most valuable AI startup
That is an incredibly limited an shortsighted view of AI
mountainriver··on The dead economy theory
Also our youth unemployment rate is still historically low https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/LNS14024887

I’m not sure on the quality of work though

mountainriver··on The dead economy theory
Agree, but I also think a lot of people are going to push things further than we could have ever imagined.
mountainriver··on The dead economy theory
Agree, the most important thing we can possibly do is enforce collectively owned compute

This is why companies like Anthropic are so scary, they believe AI should be controlled by them alone

mountainriver··on The dead economy theory
The government and collectives in general could easily help provide this.

If enough people are out of work they will obviously band together

mountainriver··on Anthropic surpasses OpenAI to become most valuable AI startup
I don’t know that most people care at all or even know about this. ChatGPT still far and away has the largest consumer market and brand recognition.

What Anthropic has done exceedingly well is work their way into corporations.

I have personally seen massive uptake over the last 6 months of regular people in corporations using Claude cowork. They are all genuinely amazed by what it can do for them.

OpenAI wants to be more of a Google. It’s increasingly seeming like consumer may not be as good of a play here

mountainriver··on Anthropic surpasses OpenAI to become most valuable AI startup
Being a “prick” is completely inconsequential compared to the massive harm that anthropics views could create.

Such as them genuinely believing they are the only ones who should control AI. What could possibly go wrong?
