moufestaphio··on Google to end 'Double Irish, Dutch' tax scheme: filing
Of course what they did is legal.

A loophole is legal, that's the point. It's a way around the intent of the law legally.

moufestaphio··on Many Japanese children refuse to go to school
Yup I've heard the same, Yakuza leadership (also rank and file) has a lot of Zainichi.

I also remember hearing about how Pachinko parlours are usually owned by Yakuza/Zainichi and they funnel profits into North Korea.

moufestaphio··on Many Japanese children refuse to go to school
oh, I just thought of a good example of Hacker news favorite investor: Masayoshi Son.

Notice his last name is Korean? But he was born and raised in Japan.

And here's what he has to say: https://asia.nikkei.com/NAR/Articles/SoftBank-s-Son-stands-u...

Even in his early childhood, he was attacked verbally and physically by Japanese classmates. In kindergarten, he was jeered at for being Korean. Once, another child cut his head open with a stone.

moufestaphio··on Many Japanese children refuse to go to school
They're referred to as Zainichi.

After WW2, there was over 1 million Koreans living in Japan. Some went back, some decided to wait due to the war starting.

Then the country they were going back to no longer existed, so they stayed. Many don't even have citizenship.

Or Zainichi Koreans, who are born and raised in Japan (there are a LOT).

moufestaphio··on Many Japanese children refuse to go to school
Goes deeper than just that.

There is being born in the wrong 'caste': https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burakumin

Or the many Koreans who are in 'limbo' (zainichi) after WW2:

moufestaphio··on Many Japanese children refuse to go to school
It's not exactly a secret.

Japan is super racist. They outright will often refuse services to foreigners/non-ethnic Japanese.

Here's a quick few results:

It's mandatory I mention:

Old Boy.

But you're right, there are a lot of great Korean movies. A few more of my favourites are: - New World - Welcome to Dongmakgol

Interesting, I hadn't heard of this. Mentioned at the bottom of the article about Canadian resentment:

>Canada sought greater autonomy in international affairs.

One I did know about though was mot much latter the Alaska border dispute a little latter: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska_boundary_dispute

moufestaphio··on In effect, Seattle is decriminalizing the use of hard drugs
>I fully support legalizing all drugs, but don't understand why the latest wave of criminal justice reform tolerates property crimes.

This so much! You're not a criminal because you're doing heroin or whatever, you're a criminal because you're stealing everything that isn't nailed down, harassing and threatening people in the neighborhood, attempting to break into houses repeatedly.

This is all happening to my neighbors and I. But the police do nothing.

It's pretty frustrating.

>We can only be sure that we are witnessing the best basketball players in the world who are motivated by money, and the fastest runners who are motivated by fame.

I think that's a pretty big stretch.

First of all, not all basketball players/runners are motivated by money/fame. If you are really good at something competitive you want to do it against other people who are also good. So it's highly likely that the best people want to compete against others who are at there level.

Also with all the modern training, dieting and everything modern athletes do, I think it's pretty laughable to think someone can just 'walk up' and be better than them.

Seriously, came to say this.

Speaking wise it helps a lot. You stop worrying about the conjugation or sentence structure etc, and just communicate with the other person.

This was the situation for bicycle parking in Japan.

~$5 a day to park my bike legally.

~$25 ticket if my bike got confiscated for being parked illegally.

It got confiscated twice in 3 years. Needless to say, basically everyone parked illegally.

moufestaphio··on Rise of the Zombie Deer
Did you read the article?

>It's been reported in 24 US states so far, as well as Canada, Norway, Finland, and South Korea.

But to answer your question: No.

0 known human cases, only possible in theory. Read the article for more info ;)

moufestaphio··on Are Pop Lyrics Getting More Repetitive? (2017)
Yes, that was super annoying. Like I literally can't look at the graph the way you have it set up.

Did they ever test this...?

moufestaphio··on A man who has eaten at more than 7,300 Chinese restaurants
> but that is more about clientele.

Yeah, absolutely agreed. Most 'traditional cuisines' tend to be fairly healthy. My pet theory on this is along the lines of an evolutionary standpoint.. if it wasn't healthy, the people eating it would have been more likely to die off.

Unfortunately North American's got all the delicious foods from all the cultures that immigrated :)

moufestaphio··on Japan still has great influence on global financial markets
So I lived there for 5+ years, and my wife is Korea who lived in Japan.

There is a very large and real anti-korean sentiment/prejudice in Japan.

I mean a few years ago now, but there was a bunch of anti-korean protests in shin okubo. https://japantoday.com/category/features/kuchikomi/nasty-nat...

And there's the whole 'Zainichi' thing, who are still systematically oppressed.

moufestaphio··on Fewer Births Than Deaths Among Whites in Majority of U.S. States
>As I watch the news I can't help but think maybe this isn't such a bad thing.

Is this a round about way of saying 'if all the white people died it would fix our problems'?

I personally don't think it's a very helpful sentiment to say things like "If this group of people didn't exist, we wouldn't have a problem".

moufestaphio··on Apple will attempt to jam Facebook's web-tracking tools
Huh, I never thought of that. Only works if you're using basic/bad metrics. I believe google's stuff is a little more advanced than that and you can see your click-through all the way to buying rate etc.
moufestaphio··on Solving dynamic programming interview problems
For DP? Practice a couple on like HackerRank, CodeFights etc. It starts to make sense after you do a few.

For Big O notation? Just think about how many times you're iterating through things (in the worst possible case).

e.g. Got two nested for loops each going to N.. we're going to loop N on the outer loop, so and each iteration of the inner loop we go through N times? that's N x N so O(N^2).. (easy example obviously).

moufestaphio··on Cartier boss with $7.5bn: fear of the poor rising up 'keeps him awake at night'
The actual quotation is way more reasonable than the headline:

“How is society going to cope with structural unemployment and the envy, hatred and the social warfare?” he said. “We are destroying the middle classes at this stage and it will affect us. It’s unfair. So that’s what keeps me awake at night.”
