mothers··on A Slow-Motion Trainwreck Facing the Meal-Kit Industry
i've never claimed i'm not lazy. i'm super lazy. if i had unlimited money i wouldn't cook or order from a restaurant. i'd have people literally feed me with a spoon.

this fact, however, is irrelevant from my point.

mothers··on Moderate drinking associated with atrophy in brain related to memory, learning
a 5 year old (saw the Terrence Tao of dexterity) could theoretically use a circular saw. a saw isn't inherently bad. alcohol as something to be consumed is.
mothers··on Moderate drinking associated with atrophy in brain related to memory, learning
would you give a 5 year old a beer? no? exactly. everyone knows drinking is bad for you. they do it anyway, because "reasons" [1] anyone who disagrees is just being irrational.

[1] which may include partying and hooking up, as well as removing any awkwardness they have.

mothers··on A Slow-Motion Trainwreck Facing the Meal-Kit Industry
even for a given level of healthfullness preparing your own food is faster and cheaper. what's your point? the only thing meal kits have on making your own food is variety. that's ultimately what you're paying for.
mothers··on White-Collar Crime: Why Executives Don’t Go to Prison
once you realize that prison mainly just serves to disenfranchise the poor and minorities, the fact executives don't go to prison is obvious.

people will disagree, but you need only look at the facts to see.

mothers··on A Slow-Motion Trainwreck Facing the Meal-Kit Industry
generally people who do meal-kits just aren't good at shopping. it isn't cheaper, healthier or faster to cook than regular food. the only thing it might be better at is faster at preparation, an advantage that is negated if you buy a sufficiently large amount of food each time you purchase and pre-prepare (cutting chicken into slices and freezing them, etc.).

tldr: only lazy people with more time than money would be interested in this.

if anyone disagrees go ahead and post your cooking schedule and workflow. i'll point out the glaring inefficiencies (e.g. buying small amounts of food frequently for preparing and then complaining it takes too long to eat; cooking small amounts of food; not preslicing meat upon purchase, etc)

the one thing i'll give meal kits is that you can get a large variety of food.

I highly doubt any of these claims are true on the low end. Maybe if you only go to expensive restaurants.
mothers··on Facebook Hits 2 Billion Users
It's really not that complicated. They did attempt to influence.
mothers··on Ask HN: What's a useful application of AI and/or ML?
None of the things you mentioned exist yet, though.
mothers··on 6 Women Accuse Tech VC Justin Caldbeck of Sexual Assault and Harassment
This is a common view point, and it is false. There's a fixed amount of attention that can be directed towards certain issues. Accordingly, paying attention to certain issues is ignoring others.

In fact some definitions of attention define it as the ability to ignore unwanted or unneeded things. In general, I do think it is correct to focus on a specific, salient example of harassment, that is, women's harassment than the abstract. Just as I think it's better to focus on sexism or racism rather than "discrimination"

mothers··on 6 Women Accuse Tech VC Justin Caldbeck of Sexual Assault and Harassment
Wow. Honestly that sounds like a start-up opportunity. Is there really no venue for people to speak out without potentially harming themselves?
mothers··on 6 Women Accuse Tech VC Justin Caldbeck of Sexual Assault and Harassment
the difference is that no one is harmed in this situation.
mothers··on 6 Women Accuse Tech VC Justin Caldbeck of Sexual Assault and Harassment
why did your reporter think it was necessary that you go and out yourself?
mothers··on Uber CEO to take leave
One of his parents died and the other was severely injured, no? Who wouldn't take leave under those circumstances?
mothers··on Weight Training Is the Best Exercise for Bone Strength
Brisk walking for an hour daily is absolutely considered moderate exercise. High quality relationships can reduce stress which is related to sleeping.
mothers··on Weight Training Is the Best Exercise for Bone Strength
perhaps the best exercise for bone strength, but is it the best thing you can do for your bones?

assuming a moderately active lifestyle (e.g. an hour of brisk walking a day), we're skeptical that exercise has any significant advantage, if any, compared to improved nutrition and non-exercise lifestyle changes (more and better quality sleep, better friendships, etc.).

that being said, exercise certainly isn't bad.

mothers··on Are Google, Amazon and others getting too big?
Suppose there was an organization, "Creation", that did mass surveillance on everyone on the planet. They don't disclose what they do with this data.

Let's say as a result of Creation's sharing of this data with local governments, crime is nonexistent.

Based on only what we've said is that a good or bad deal? Also, all of your examples were either purchased or have alternatives, so, yeah.

mothers··on Ask HN: Does anybody else feel overwhelmed while reading HN?
HN in a way can be considered a monolith with thousands of years of combined cumulative experience in every domain and in every technology.

Of course, you, by comparison will seem lackluster. Realizing that a single person on here may be lacking in specific expertise may give you solace.
