Because the only mechanism to hold these mega corporations / billionaires accountable is government, and they're already powerful enough to have waged massive information wars convincing people to fight each other instead of them.

The article mentions using this as a means of detecting bots, not as a complaint that it's abusive.

EDIT: I was chastised, here's the original text of my comment: Did you read the article or just the title? They aren't claiming it's abusive. They're saying it's a viable signal to detect and ban bots.

> I think freedom of speech topics are pretty closely embedded with tech and entrepreneurship whether we like it or not.

That's a useful fiction, useful until it's not. This post[1] was on the front page briefly today. These people aren't obscure or powerless, they're billionaires, embedded in the current administration, etc.

> Then I started noticing something I couldn’t ignore. Smart people I respected—especially in cryptocurrency—were casually discussing feudalism. Not as history or provocation, but as serious proposals for organizing society. “Democracy and freedom are incompatible.” “Most people aren’t capable of self-governance.” “Elite overproduction is the problem—we educated too many people above their station.”

> These weren’t fringe cranks. Peter Thiel writing that democracy and freedom are incompatible. Curtis Yarvin publishing blueprints for corporate monarchy. An entire neo-reactionary apparatus in Silicon Valley while I optimized payment systems. And they were explicit: the democratic experiment failed, constitutional constraints prevent necessary action, most people should accept subordinate roles, the intelligent few should rule.

> We've got two abismal parties to choose from. Yes, there's an agument for voting for the lesser of two evils, but it's not a great one.

No, we have one destructive/harmful party (R) and one status quo party (D). They are not the same level of bad and that's immediately obvious from this last year.

> Not only are they usually cheaper than a traditional Uber

Enjoy it while it lasts. Uber/Lyft were far cheaper than other options when they launched until they put everything else out of business, then jacked up the price.

mostlysimilar··on Regarding the Compact
Government forcing institutions to conform to a specific ideology.

> Signatories commit themselves to revising governance structures as necessary to create such an environment, including but not limited to transforming or abolishing institutional units that purposefully punish, belittle, and even spark violence against conservative ideas.

> Institutions commit to defining and otherwise interpreting “male,” “female,” “woman,” and “man” according to reproductive function and biological processes.

mostlysimilar··on Evaluating the impact of AI on the labor market: Current state of affairs
Would you mind elaborating? Generally speaking what is the project? What does the AI enable you to do solo that you would have had to dedicate a team to before? Is the quality of the software the same, worse, or better? What does your day-to-day job look like and how is it different from before? What tools are you using?

> It's a meme video with edited effects to look like a dramatic "shot"—not a real event. Charlie Kirk is fine; he handles roasts like a pro.

This thing as the basis for an encyclopedia will be worse than useless. Comparing it to Wikipedia is several layers removed from reality.

There's plenty to criticize DHH for but to be fair world.hey.com is a feature of the email platform that lets you easily post a blog. He's using his own software/platform and I realize the optics, but you could post your own thoughts at world.hey.com/muglug too.

Setting the playback speed to 0.25 and watching at the 18-20 second mark sure does look like AI artifacting, but I'm no expert. It's easiest to see in his pinky but the whole hand changes.

> AI potentially solves many of those challenges

Isn't it exactly the opposite?

Language barriers: LLMs are language models and all of the major ones are built in English, speaking that language fluently is surely a prerequisite to interacting with them efficiently?

Knowledge: famously LLMs "know" nothing and are making things up all of the time and sometimes approximate "knowledge"
