mortsnort··on Facebook is cooked
It's definitely cooked in the sense that the content is garbage, but whenever was that not true?

I'm hoping they're cooked because they're putting all of their eggs in the AGI basket instead of making useful AI products, and they probably won't figure out AGI.

mortsnort··on Hideki Sato, designer of all Sega's consoles, has died
Piracy took a huge toll on Dreamcast. It came out during the rise of P2P file sharing and you could just burn CD's of the games to play without needing to mod the console in any way.
mortsnort··on I’m joining OpenAI
Move fast and break things...
mortsnort··on An AI agent published a hit piece on me – more things have happened
They also have a strange obsession with stories about vaccines, rare scary ailments, and child porn. I suppose these topics get them good engagement, but not something I want to read about (constantly) on a tech blog.
mortsnort··on Gemini 3 Deep Think
They may quantize the models after release to save money.
mortsnort··on 1-Click RCE to steal your Moltbot data and keys
By your logic, it would be really easy for the code creator to run an agent to find and fix exploits in their own code.
mortsnort··on Qwen3-TTS family is now open sourced: Voice design, clone, and generation
They were just waiting for someone in the comments to ask!
mortsnort··on Prediction: Microsoft will eventually ship a Windows-themed Linux distro
I think they're going to do the least funny thing imaginable: make Windows software require a valid Windows install.

It might all be moot tho if nobody can buy RAM and we're all pushed to cloud computing (yay Azure...). Then your terminal's OS will be pretty irrelevant.

mortsnort··on A bombshell': doubt cast on discovery of microplastics throughout human body
The money quote:

In the meantime, should the public be worried about MNPs in their bodies?

Given the very limited evidence, Prof Lamoree said she could not say how concerned people should be: “But for sure I take some precautions myself, to be on the safe side. I really try to use less plastic materials, especially when cooking or heating food or drinking from plastic bottles. The other thing I do is ventilate my house.”

“We do have plastics in us – I think that is safe to assume,” said Materić. “But real hard proof on how much is yet to come. There are also very easy things that you can do to hugely reduce intake of MNPs. If you are concerned about water, just filtering through charcoal works.” Experts also advise avoiding food or drink that has been heated in plastic containers.

mortsnort··on The Future of Veritasium [video]
Legendary channel and dude, but everything must succumb to the Law of Enshittification eventually.
mortsnort··on Bikeshedding, or why I want to build a laptop
Yeah why isn't anyone else making hardware for niche operating systems that is on par with a $4T luxury, bespoke hardware company's products!
mortsnort··on Linus Torvalds thinks Elon Musk is 'too stupid' to be working at a tech company
Stupid and smart are stupid terms. There are many, many dimensions to intelligence and a lot of tech elite are too "stupid" to not recognize that being a really "smart" at coding doesn't mean they're really "smart" at everything.

I'd guess Elon and Linus's character sheets are more closely aligned on the same dimensions of intelligence than Linus would like to admit.

mortsnort··on Warner Bros Begins Exclusive Deal Talks With Netflix
Netflix paid $500M for the rights to Seinfeld for 5 years to give you an idea of what people are using Netflix for. Why make new content when you can sell old content?
mortsnort··on Mistral 3 family of models released
I use a small model as a chatbot of sorts in a game I'm making. I was hoping the 3b could replace qwen 4b, but it's far worse at following instructions and providing entertaining content. I suppose this is expected given smaller size and their own benchmarks that show Qwen beating it at instruct.
mortsnort··on Bazzite: Operating System for Linux gaming
The site could make it clear that Bazzite is an operating system (it is right?). It wasn't until I scrolled to the bottom and saw built on Gnome and Fedora that I understood what Bazzite is.
mortsnort··on Why aren't smart people happier?
Happiness isn't a good survival trait.
mortsnort··on How I use every Claude Code feature
I've been having good results with Roo Code/Cline + Claude Code as the provider. I feel like using CC CLI effectively requires manually recreating Roo/Cline
mortsnort··on Linux gamers on Steam cross over the 3% mark
I suspect that if this number gets much higher and I also suspect it will, MS is going to deploy nuclear options to break Proton and, with it, Valve's Linux ambitions.
mortsnort··on Keep Android Open
I've been using Android phones since the OG Droid (2009) because I could install software on it. My next phone will be an iPhone if this doesn't change.
mortsnort··on Nearly 90% of Windows Games Now Run on Linux
Will MS implement some kind of software signing that breaks wine?
mortsnort··on YouTube Just Ate TV. It's Only Getting Started
https://www.statsignificant.com/p/the-rise-and-fall-of-tvs-g...

This is a pretty well known fact. Netflix is the best example. They created the prestige streaming market with House of Cards, and now they're primarily using algorithms to create low-cost reality shows and cheap disaster documentaries.

mortsnort··on 'Virtually No Demand' for iPhone Air
It's obviously just a stop gap product to test the tech before they launch a foldable.
mortsnort··on Is It Time to Regulate React?
Apparently learning HTML and CSS is how one becomes a real "web developer".
mortsnort··on Is Sora the beginning of the end for OpenAI?
The massive cost of this product is unique though (not even counting the copyright lawsuits/settlements coming). I can't think of any side projects that require this level of investment.
mortsnort··on NVIDIA DGX Spark In-Depth Review: A New Standard for Local AI Inference
The strix halo can also be used as a capable gaming/dev Pac with your OS of choice.
mortsnort··on The Case Against Generative AI
He should use AI for that
mortsnort··on Reports: EA set to be sold to private investors for up to $50B
Often the buying company brings synergies from their own company that unlocks extra value (in theory).
mortsnort··on Snapdragon X2 Elite ARM Laptop CPU
Apple chips are ARM chips.
mortsnort··on The dawn of the post-literate society – and the end of civilisation
And yet thousands of people have liked (and presumably read) his long article and hundreds have replied. Substack provides levels of information sharing that a book can't provide.

With books, some small amount of people read difficult works while most people read beach lit. With phones, some small amount of people are learning at rates never possible before, while most people consume Tik Tok.

I agree that social media may be causing a collapse in society, but not that a lack of book reading is causing societal collapse.
