morbidkk··on Collaborative Applicant Management with Startuply
what I would love to see is nice recommendation engine in the background which would notify all the job seekers and startup employers to get what they want.

It has to be accommodating enough to return varying results depending on the interest of the technology, location etc.

It is there in some of the existing job portals but some unique ways

1.which would be more effective even in case of huge data set.

2.To arouse interest in people who are registered there but not actively seeking jobs.

3.where people would like to get co-founders/collaborators.

I know it is easy to think but hard to implement and that too within fixed scope of time and motivation :)

Let me know your thoughts on this

morbidkk··on Ask HN: What has been your biggest mistake?
havent dared to make enough mistakes yet
morbidkk··on Posterous.com (YC Summer 08) launches Autopost to all major blog platforms
I may be wrong here . But given a choice of desktop application like Windows Live Writer(yeh windows only); many people would face a question? how does it matter using new web service?

In most of the cases I wont be pushing the same content to multiple blogs at once.

Sending mail is the simplest solution one can see though. Friendfeed-mailFF and now posterous. Also jason calacanis's shifting from blogging to email platform. its all 360 degree cycle.

Are we redefining how to blog ( by mailing either through posterous/way jason calacanis done having exclusive mailing list)?

oops everything is getting redefined

morbidkk··on YC is a cult
its mainly to go to higher orbit where money is not that essential. In present situation for most of the founders; money is important part.
morbidkk··on Ex-Google engineers debut 'Cuil' way to search
I cant get the result for my newly registered domain name on cuil whereas I can see the result on google. Also no blogspot/googlepages result for your query.

I found the result page lot different compared to google UI. Its paradigm shift and difficult to comprehend. Our brain and eyes are used to google search result look and feel.

morbidkk··on Are Co-Founders in the Same City Really an Advantage to a Start-Up?
for someone who is thinking of what tools available. Here is small list of webapps for collaboration http://blog.proto.in/2008/05/28/the-startup-kit-part-i/
morbidkk··on JSON 2 HTML
http://jsonml.org/ is similar.

What you have done helps when server response is json/xml(which can be converted to json).

JSON is very nifty format and programmer friendly. Last year I had done some tooling to read JavaBeans using asm convert to JSON. We has wrapper over service classes to return response either as XML string or JSON.

check out this too http://blog.ketankhairnar.com/2007/06/json-utility-using-asm...

morbidkk··on Questions from a young developer that "just" started working aka: how do you manage it?
It happens with all people who are working for big companies i.e. more no of employees. Key to get out of this is to get selfish.

Work on the things you want even when you are in office. :) Compress regular work in smaller chunks and keep promise to you that I would write atleast 50 lines of good code everyday. Am sure you do this for 7 days and you know what to do next to reach there.

Getting started is the important thing. Get away from HN/programming.redddit; work on small snippet; be happy and then search anybody has done similar thing. Discovering similar/better/quicker approach to your code i.e. whatever would boost your confidance especially when you can write code without google search.

So that helps to get back to books/api documentation. And suddenly you become a programmer you want to be.

I know this sounds pretty simple but that is the key.

google appengine + small JQuery/Prototype project can help anyone to get started

morbidkk··on Ask YC: What do you use for time and todo tracking?
Using free google apps account. pretty much serves our need
morbidkk··on Ask HN: managing subdomains cookbook
I checked your site. My friend is looking something like yours for Chess tournaments.

Now back to my question. how about user's own domain?

Do they need to set it up or it can be configured on our end?

Google creates such entries if you register a domain through their google app account. How can that be done?

morbidkk··on Ask HN: managing subdomains cookbook
I have done it. That is not my question. Lets say I have a webapp travelR.com and you create your pages senthil.travelR.com and you also buy domain senthil.com.

How can I automate senthil.com 's pointing to senthil.travelR.com programatically.

Earlier answer mentioning myDNS helps. up voted

morbidkk··on Do you use FriendFeed?

morbidkk··on Do you use FriendFeed?
its nice webapp where you get to know what serious people are reading or sharing. Like digg but far wider in scope. Comment troll is noise there

Most of the times I stumble on good site/article and really really nice pictures from flickr

and yes its unlike twitter. Twitter is like IM and you are allowed to communicate through status message. Its hip but how useful?

morbidkk··on Y Combinator Ad

morbidkk··on AJAX Libraries API: Speed up your Ajax apps with Google’s infrastructure
and you assume all who are accessing your web application from n number of places over the world have such fast internet access. I doubt
morbidkk··on Ask News.YC: Any studies on whether social filtering works?
It all depends on how data is aggregated and how specialized service like yours cater to the data i.e uses that data.

For example linkedIn takes all the data from the end user whenever there is communication event.

1) adding a profile: name/school/college/specialization/job industry/company

2) adding a new job- job industry/company

3) adding a contact - type of relationship

4) asking a question - mark that to industry vertical/set of people

So having granular details (which would help your service to serve users better) defines what data you need to collect from start and then you can use the same.

pure speculation is cooler with above set of data

morbidkk··on Ask News.YC: You have an idea for a start-up. Now what?
probably reading gettingreal from 37signals would put you in right mood to start looking for things- you need to do on priority, now

especially I am impressed with ixigo. my favorite utility application site was kayak and thought something similar should be there for India market. Ixigo nailed it
morbidkk··on Ask YC: The art of invitation design?
Lets say if it spreads from single member to friends with bubble effect; then having name of the member(preferably genuine name otherwise userid/handle) in subject line can help in long way. e.g. morbidkk wants to keep up with you on Twitter

I personally dont even read invitation mails from strangers.

1) so avoid generic subject line. - A friend invites you to xyz 2) Also check shelfari invite mail; which is very impressive as it just introuduces everything what can be done on shelfari in small but concise mail.
