Unless you really have intentions of selling your site, you should just open all your code. There isn't much of a reason to keep it private, because potential employers can't view it.

But more to the point, you would have a better chance of getting a job in NYC than in SC. Just keep coding. Finish your projects too. Finish that site you are making. I would be more likely to hire you if you showed passion and interest in coding. And a big part of that for me is finishing the projects you start.

I don't think it's unreasonable. I would speak to your manager about it. And honestly if he/she doesn't understand your career goals or is not willing to work with you on them, you should look for work elsewhere.

Probably about a year ago. But I was only checking the internet about 3 hours per week total back then. Now I can't get away from it.

If it's just to find a better job, then I wouldn't worry too much about the prestige factor. You will get a better job through quality of work and the ability to prove it. The prestige factors plays more into jobs in academics. Don't get me wrong, a degree from a top notch school can make a difference in finding work, but not as much as your ability to code and display your ability.

What is your end goal? If it's to be a professor, then maybe it matters a little. But the quality of your work/research matters quite a bit too.

No problem. It depends on where you are looking for a job. NYC and San Fran will be higher for instance. I don't know much about the foreign markets. But I would say starting salary around $60k-$75k. You might be able to get more, but I doubt it. All this is assuming your portfolio is well stocked.

It depends on the company, but I doubt you could get a senior level position. But you could probably get a well paying mid-level position at the right company.

There are definitely jobs out there for you if you have the portfolio. But I hardly think college is a waste of time.
