monlockandkey··on The camel, the rope, and the needle's eye
The Qur'an didn't borrow anything, nor was it influenced by the previous religions. The Qur'an is a revelation from God, as was the original Torah to Moses and the Injeel to Jesus. The same accounts of history and messages would be told to the prophets from God.

The claim where Muhammad ﷺ copied from the previous books is simply not possible. An unlettered man narrating and correcting the histories/traditions of the Jews and Christians where they were few and far between in Arabia. It was pagan through and throught. Recounting their history would require a library to be available and be a polyglot in Hebrew/Aramaic/Greek (there were no Arabic Bible translation until the 10th Century).

If the motivation is to gain followers from the prior Abrahamic religions, the easiest thing to do would be to appease their view points and reaffirm what they believed, not to correct them. Not to mention the sheer volume of recounting the children of Israel and history of Jesus in the Qur'an, which does not make sense if you are copying as you would want a few lines here and there to avoid saying something wrong.

(The tone of this comment sounds firm in writing, in reality it is cordial)

Isn't it based on Cortex X3?
monlockandkey··on The camel, the rope, and the needle's eye
Islam isn't based on Christianity or Judasim. Rather is the the revival/continuation of the one message which is monotheism, given to every prophet and messenger throughout history. It would not be unfound for overlap in teachings between the prophets as they are ultimately upon one religion.

monlockandkey··on Show HN: Trains.fyi – a live map of passenger trains in the US and Canada
Busses would be soo much better if there was real time location of busses and trains that you could view on a map. Probably the lowest hanging fruit to pick for public transport improvement.

monlockandkey··on Moving from AWS to Bare-Metal saved us $230k per year
I've said this before, unless you are using specific AWS services, I think it is a fools errand to use it.

Compute, storage, database, networking. You would be better off using Digital Ocean, Linode Vultr etc. so much cheaper than AWS, lots of bandwidth included rather than the extortionate $0.08 GB egress.

Compute is the same story. 2 VCPU, 4GB VPS is ~$24 using a VPS. The equivalent instances (after navigating the obscured pricing and naming scheme), is the c6g.large is double the price at $50.

This is the happy middle ground between bare metal and AWS.

Wow this is really cool. Make sure to get this repository into those "Awesome Python" GitHub lists. Would also appreciate some video demos in the README to demonstrate what the repo does
monlockandkey··on The first two custom silicon chips designed by Microsoft for its cloud
It's more the fact that power efficiency is something Arm values quite lot in their philosophy since their products are used in mobile and edge devices.
monlockandkey··on The first two custom silicon chips designed by Microsoft for its cloud
Mobile, desktop, laptop, edge, server. These are the domains of compute. 4 out of the 5 domains value power efficiency. Laptop that were once x86 are now coming round to Arm because it really does make a better product i.e battery life and thermals. For the server, savings in energy and cost of chip manufacturing, datacentres and users both benefit.

monlockandkey··on The first two custom silicon chips designed by Microsoft for its cloud
It's going to take time, but momentum is seriously starting to build up now. Laptop market going to pick up with Snapdragon X and cloud providers are going to continue with more powerful designs.
monlockandkey··on The first two custom silicon chips designed by Microsoft for its cloud
Arm in inevitable for the server. It's interesting how now days, efficiency/power consumption is a consideration over pure raw performance.

I really struggled with MAUI. There were quite a few bugs. Hope it is better now but I would recommend native development
monlockandkey··on Fourteen Years of Go
I love Go.

[Warning super hot take]

If you are creating a backend service, the language of choice is clearly Go. Get productive within a week, straightforward to read, compiles to a single binary (easy deployment), suited for serverless functions, low memory usage , excellent ecosystem, static typing, composition over inheritance, sane dependency management, Goroutines instead of async/await, super fast compile times and very very performant.

[Vs Language]

Python: Very slow, dynamic typing, async await, multithreading is an issue, deployment not as straightforward, messy dependency management

Java/C#: On the heavy side for resources, verbose and various design patterns, async await, around the same performance as Go

Nodejs: Async await, slower than Go, node modules, deployment not as straightforward, single threaded execution

Rust: async await, long compile time, high and long learning curve, on average will take longer to develop in Rust, sparse talent pool, faster than Go BUT for the effort it takes to get there, don't think its worth it and the extra performance is mostly not worth the above trade-offs (unless you operate on the scale of Discord)

Yes there are issues with Go. No doubt. What it gives you by default is a language designed for the web backend. No contest in my opinion.

monlockandkey··on Faster compilation with the parallel front-end in nightly
Wow this looks really promising. Once compile times come down, Rust will become even more of a powerhouse.

monlockandkey··on The global fight against HIV is at risk
https://www.statista.com/statistics/656516/abortion-distribu...

77% of abortions done by people who are not married and 46% done by women who are not married and not even cohabiting.

Abortion is a symptom of a problem which is the lack of marriage and the highly promiscuous lifestyle that is sold to us. Married people when there is a child on the way (planned or unplanned), there is little to no reason to get an abortion. Sleeping around lifestyle, of course the first thing that happens when pregnant, abortion...

monlockandkey··on The global fight against HIV is at risk
A prudish lifestyle means marriage instead of promiscuity, abortions will decrease and the birth rate will rise.

monlockandkey··on Kotlin multiplatform is stable and production-ready
I think the most beneficial part is the sharing of logic. With UI, I don't think using skia is the way to go like flutter.

But well done to the team and hopefully this continues to grow and see investment.

monlockandkey··on Cortex X2: ARM aims high
Yes it is for performance. But it is performance at a reasonable cost.

The new Qualcomm Oryon chips are more powerful but also much more expensive. So the X lineup is actually quite reasonable if you want smartphones to be "affordable".

https://www.androidauthority.com/qualcomm-snapdragon-8-gen-4...

monlockandkey··on Cortex X2: ARM aims high
That is because performance isn't the only metric. Things like cost make a big difference as they would need to make it decently priced for silicon board partners to buy. Just the amount of L2 cache in the M1 is 3x-6x as compared to the X3 core which adds cost to the chip.

The M1/M2 is an amazing chip, however you need to consider that these chips are in different price brackets hence the performance discrepancy.

monlockandkey··on EU-funded report calls for wealth of super-rich to be taxed, not income
"Wealth tax" already exists. This can be found in Islam.

Muslims have an obligatory charity called Zakat, 2.5% of your standing wealth (if you meet the threshold) directly goes to the poor. This includes what is in your bank account, savings, stocks and shares or investments you intend to sell.
