monero-xmr··on Europe's Green Energy Rush Slashed Emissions – and Crippled the Economy
I think we need to take all the hypothetical numbers and divide by 4, because the results are not meeting even the conservative projections
monero-xmr··on Europe's Green Energy Rush Slashed Emissions – and Crippled the Economy

> Some prominent economists and industry executives have recently cast doubt on whether renewables will ever be cheaper in places like Germany and the U.K. that aren’t blessed with abundant sunshine and have bet big on wind. Onshore wind turbines in Germany produce around one-fifth of their total theoretical output. Solar panels in Germany and the U.K. use only around 10% of their total theoretical output.

monero-xmr··on Netherlands – Capital Growth Tax and Capital Gains Tax for Box 3
You need to exit the Netherlands
monero-xmr··on Americans no longer see four-year college degrees as worth the cost
I agree with you, but if the US truly has the best military (and it does 100x) then when push comes to shove, the US will destroy anyone who tries to undermine it. Very dangerous game to oppose it. Being able to construct things quickly is important, but if the US can militarily seize nearly every country on earth in days, the power is not necessarily where the kit is located
monero-xmr··on Dilution vs. Risk taking: Capital gains taxes and entrepreneurs
If I’m paying more taxes, it’s a sign the state is spending beyond its means
monero-xmr··on Dilution vs. Risk taking: Capital gains taxes and entrepreneurs
Sounds like when I have a major tax bill, me and some friends should found a startup with poor prospects for success
monero-xmr··on Chainalysis Successful Deanonymization Attack on Monero
I know (and many others do as well, it’s not that hidden) of the group that pumped Zcash. Very well executed pump
monero-xmr··on Tell HN: Want a better HN? Visit /newest
You will get banned if you speak too controversially, but the bigger issue is you get downvoted for wrong-think, but that’s the nature of HN and probably why it has survived so long
monero-xmr··on Tell HN: Want a better HN? Visit /newest
I’m not going to cite evidence, the evidence is my lived experience posting controversial opinions here for years. Try it yourself and see!
monero-xmr··on Tell HN: Want a better HN? Visit /newest
Which controversial topic do you want to hear my hot take on?
monero-xmr··on Tell HN: Want a better HN? Visit /newest
HN wants polite discussion which lends itself well to science and technology topics. Get farther away into history or politics where opinion comes in, then it becomes impossible to debate because arguments that disagree with the hive mind (upper middle class, intelligent, center-left technology professionals) get downvoted and flagged because of popularity.

This just isn’t a site for arguing politics, if you do it too much with opinions different from the hive mind you get banned for disruptive behavior

monero-xmr··on Tell HN: Want a better HN? Visit /newest
I could name 10 widely held societal opinions that would instantly get flagged and likely your account banned if you mention a few times. Very hive mind place here
monero-xmr··on China's BEV trucks and the end of diesel's dominance
China does not allow the West to compete in their market. If you want to complain about artificial barriers, ask why Google can’t get a search engine there
monero-xmr··on China's BEV trucks and the end of diesel's dominance
China is full of Potemkin villages. They strategically invest huge resources into areas the West finds politically advantageous, but somehow only grow exactly the 5% they say is required. It’s had to square the circle when so much is obviously nonsense
monero-xmr··on China's BEV trucks and the end of diesel's dominance
The USSR was considered by many prominent intellectuals a valid counterpoint to the Western capitalist structure, up until the moment it collapsed, and then it wasn't true socialism. Some humbleness should be in order when considering imperfect knowledge
monero-xmr··on Ozempic does not slow Alzheimer's, study finds
I trust my eyes more than anything, and I see more vaguely-disabled people than ever, especially the 20-40 age group. I'm sorry you can't accept this, nor understand why this is not good
monero-xmr··on Ozempic does not slow Alzheimer's, study finds
I think it says something more about society that a significant chunk of our young adults have convinced themselves they have some sort of unspecific, incurable, un-diagnosable malady. It's actually super fucked up
monero-xmr··on Ozempic does not slow Alzheimer's, study finds
I’m commenting about how “tHiS iSn’T ReAl!!!” comments are so hilariously off-base, so much so my own child and his friends comment on how absurd the number of 20 to 30 something cane people are everywhere
monero-xmr··on Ozempic does not slow Alzheimer's, study finds
I would be concerned if it has not solved your pain. Physical therapy did very little for me and the exercises they recommended because it is so weak. HIIT and core strength training was far more beneficial for pain
monero-xmr··on Ozempic does not slow Alzheimer's, study finds
What is your aerobic exercise?

monero-xmr··on In a U.S. First, New Mexico Opens Doors to Free Child Care for All
It doesn’t matter if 1 guy has 99.99% of all wealth on earth if everyone’s living standard is high and they can afford all of life’s wants
monero-xmr··on In a U.S. First, New Mexico Opens Doors to Free Child Care for All
If more of society’s desires can be delivered with fewer people at lower cost, all of society benefits
monero-xmr··on In a U.S. First, New Mexico Opens Doors to Free Child Care for All
It does not, because productivity can increase. You have a very common misunderstanding
monero-xmr··on Over-regulation is doubling the cost
Which is itself a debunked, totally fake book of lies
monero-xmr··on Prozac 'no better than placebo' for treating children with depression, experts
SSRIs literally saved my life, no question about it. Night and day difference, from daily panic attacks destroying my life, happiness, and career, to being almost completely better in 2 weeks after starting. I tried exercise and diet and meditation and you name it, for years!, before I gave medication a go.

Do not care what the science says. It 100% worked for me. Please get help if you need it, tens of millions of people use this medicine successfully

Articles like this are part of the narrative that SSRIs in general are no better than placebo. Absolutely not true for me!

monero-xmr··on A file format uncracked for 20 years
And passion to deliver. Engineers will kill themselves for a game release for no extra money and far less salary than their abilities would demand at a bigcorp. But they love it so they do it, and hack as best they can, to get their art into the world.
monero-xmr··on I have recordings proving Coinbase knew about breach months before disclosure
Ah yes, I remember all the times they hacked bitcoin
monero-xmr··on Waymo Was on a Roll in San Francisco. Then One of Its Cars Killed a Cat
I agree with your take but it’s just another form of handout, which the rest of society pays for
monero-xmr··on Being poor vs. being broke
I’m wealthy but I wasnt always. When I was 22 through 30 I didn’t take a single vacation that wasn’t driving to a long weekend. My wife and I both pulled 60 to 70 hour weeks for our entire 20s (I still do).

No one “deserves” free time. If you don’t want to work 70 hours a week and want to watch Netflix instead, go for it, but don’t bitch to me
