mombul··on A practical guide to having a remote company
This exactly. This guide is more a "why go remote" than a "how to".
mombul··on My journey from high school to a feature in Forbes (thanks to you)
Thank YOU :)
mombul··on My journey from high school to a feature in Forbes (thanks to you)
Same issue on Chrome/Win8 :)
mombul··on Developers’ side projects
I want to ask the author, Joel, what is their stance on the matter at StackOverflow and Fog Creek?
mombul··on Introducing FBlock, AdBlocking for the New Facebook
Why would you (Facebook) go and advertise that you changed something that crucial. It's like saying 'hey, I have $1000 in my pocket, bet ya can't take em from me, my new pockets are pretty tight'. Eventually someone's going to try. Had you said nothing...
mombul··on Always Already Translated
So what, a book is being translated faster. What's the big deal? What's the real impact? Do you think JK Rowling wrote the last Harry Potter books thinking about the translations and that it impacted her writing? Do you think it made her rewrite some sentences because they would be hard to translate?

I have a hard time believing that. I have a hard time finding the point of the article anyway, so... They're trying too hard.

mombul··on Ask HN: What book impacted your life the most and how?
Care to develop? I was a computer guy before I read them and they didn't struck me as incredibly tech driven. So I'd like to understand :)
mombul··on Datamining a Flat in Munich (2014)
Show HN: I made a very basic piece of programming that didn't help me at all.

:p

mombul··on A Swede Returns to Silicon Valley from China
It feels like the author reduces Silicon Valley to SF. What he was idolizing exists in Palo Alto or Mountain View. Redwood City also has that "trouble-free little city ran by geniuses" feel to it. Downtown SF is another story and doesn't show that shiny techs-wanna-save-the-world vibe.
mombul··on Searx – A privacy-respecting, hackable metasearch engine
Some of you guys might be interested in Qwant (https://www.qwant.com) , a european "truly private" search engine.

Disclaimer: I used to work there.

mombul··on Bitcoin now computes more hashes in 6secs than there are grains of sand on Earth
Impressive. Never really got into the bitcoin game and have a lot of questions, like the purpose, who it benefits etc.
mombul··on A Pointless Cancer ‘Moonshot’
Maybe we should tell the scientists then. Apparently they've been doing it wrong for all these decades...
mombul··on Silicon Valley’s Legendary ‘Coach’ Bill Campbell Has Died
snacks are free all day long ping pong table is in another room so no whack whack whack
mombul··on Climate Model Predicts West Antarctic Ice Sheet Could Melt Rapidly
I'm dumb when it comes to science. But if the worst case scenario happens, couldn't we build facilities to 'dispose' of the melted ice in any way, instead of letting the sea level rise?
mombul··on The Big Alien Theory
Well yes the location of the country doesn't matter, but that's not at all what he said. He said that it's all based on vertebrates which is ridiculous. We can't begin to imagine what type of life form constitutes an alien, and if what we'll ever find will constitute a life form as we know it.

We know what a country is. And there's very (very, very, trust me I'm an engineer) little chance we'll find new countries with characteristics unknown to us...
