Have you tried any Gardein products? They're by far my favorite frozen mock meats.

Nice list! Should be akrasiac instead of akrasia, though. :)

Great sentiment, however please consider not buying wool [1], down [2], or leather [3]. Fortunately it isn't to too hard to find comfortable, fashionable, sustainable clothing that uses cruelty-free materials.

molloy··on How the Koch brothers and the super-rich are buying their way out of criticism
I recommend checking out http://www.unkochmycampus.org/florida-state-university/

Full disclosure, my friend went to FSU and experienced the Koch influence firsthand and he became involved with the FSU Progress Coalition. He recently wrote "A Student Review of FSU Gift Acceptance Policy: Undue Influence and Charles Koch Foundation" [1] which is worth reading.

molloy··on Netflix – Chasing 60fps [video]
I completely agree. In the meantime if you aren't using it already then I recommend checking out instantwatcher.com for a better Netflix interface. I'm not affiliated with it in any way, but I do use it anytime I want to search Netflix content.

molloy··on Lisp as the Maxwell Equations of Software (2012)
Maybe that's because a "Lisp person" who did so would be considered a "Prolog person." :)

I'll give Prolog a shot!

molloy··on Mark Zuckerberg Answers Q&A in Mandarin at Chinese University
Of course a German professor would say that. (-: I've taken years of both languages in high school and college, and I'd have to disagree with him. An example of the difference in difficulty is that when you learn German coming from an English background there are only four more letters to learn (ä, ö, ü and ß), whereas there are 214 Mandarin radicals to memorize. And these radicals aren't even the entire "alphabet", they're just the basis that all characters expand upon.

Also, Mandarin is a tonal language, along with having vastly different grammar than Germanic languages. While English has plenty of influence from Romance languages, most of it is strictly vocabulary; English, at its core, is a Germanic language. Thus it'd be rather hard to prove that German is more difficult for an English speaker to learn than Chinese. However, I would love to hear his arguments to the contrary, or anybody else's for that matter!

molloy··on Indian Supreme Court makes Gay sex illegal, again
How incredibly backwards. On a side note, how do they expect to enforce this law? Making any sort of sex between consenting adults illegal seem to be more symbolic than anything. If anything is "against the order of nature", it's the banning of acting upon natural impulses.
molloy··on A list of Google's corporate Active Directory users
Interesting find! Out of curiosity, what was the content of the emails you sent and how exactly did they bring you to uncover these workstation names?
molloy··on NSA leaker is a patriot, not a traitor
I fail to see how that would have made him a "true patriot". Actually, fleeing the unjust wrath of a tyrannical government is about the most American quality there is. In any case, due to the Whistleblower Protection Act he broke no law.
molloy··on How likely is the NSA PRISM program to catch a terrorist?
I agree with your main point in this rebuttal, but I think you should have worded it in a way that would educate him as to why his interpretation was egregious without coming out so bitterly. It would raise the odds of your message actually being heeded. I understand that when people respond ignorantly, it's incredibly frustrating at times. However, they're more likely to change if you educate patiently instead of reprimanding.

molloy··on What Death Taught Me About Life
I'm terribly sorry that you had to go through losing your mother at 12. My older brother died a little under two years ago, when I was 18. Like you, death is ever-present in my mind. For me it manifests as anxiety of losing my parents, sisters, and friends. I'm not worried about my own death, though I am morbidly curious as to what my final moments will be like. I hope that even though you don't feel any better about death, you find comfort in other aspects of life.
