mohammedbin··on EU approves Microsoft acquisition of GitHub
EU approves Microsoft's acquisition of Github unconditionally. To my knowledge, FTC of US and China and other smaller approvals are yet to go.

mohammedbin··on Ask HN: Long time Ubuntu user switching to Mac. Tips?
Have you considered using Windows? With WSL there are tutorials that tell you how to make it feel like Unix, GUI and all. But check carefully if the software you need runs well. There are some edges cases still there.
mohammedbin··on GitHub launches Actions, its workflow automation tool
But five ~~million~~ already left when they announced the acquisition
mohammedbin··on How Exercise Might “Clean” the Alzheimer's Brain
This is something very new to me, thank you!

One question- what is it specifically about sleep? Have we figured that out yet? And when you say "only", you mean "only" or you mean 99.9% of time?

mohammedbin··on GitHub Actions
How different would this be from azure pipelines? Id like to see azure pipelines integrated into Github since Github acquisition is only 3 days away.
mohammedbin··on Why Zig When There Is Already CPP, D, and Rust? (2017)
Steve I wish some of the reg deref stuff used pattern matching for cleanliness instead of &.

I want to say I like you how you guys develop in the open and how you in particular are out and about in the discussions here.

Also, can you make a post someday about your experience with WSL?

mohammedbin··on Why is it so hard for Africans to visit other African countries?
Something tangential that most people done know about slavery- the actual enslavers were blacks who then sold to my forefathers- Arabs (sorry!) and then to whites.

I want to mention a. political side of the argument- M Bloomberg himself is very pro open trade and has strongly hinted at running in 2020. Also, newspapers don't usually hurt your owners' candidacy, even for explosive stories. Bloomberg isn't just putting it's reputation on stake here, it's legitimized Trump presidency further. I would say there is definitely something behind this story.
mohammedbin··on Call Python functions from VBA in all Microsoft Office apps
Do you remember how you came by this knowledge?
mohammedbin··on TinyTeX: A lightweight and easy-to-maintain LaTeX distribution
I didn't downvote - there is a substantial number of pretenders in this space. Because latex is surprisingly easy to use. But I keep my resume in the same family of software myself and it's because of ease of editing. I hide the Computer Modern font and use popular Microsoft Office fonts. So nobody knows.
mohammedbin··on TinyTeX: A lightweight and easy-to-maintain LaTeX distribution
As someone who prefers TeX- i'd say the comparison goes this way(very roughly)-

TeX:

* Assembly language or C of typesetting. Gives you fine control * useful when you have various differrnt formats and don't want to learn a new latex template for everything.

LaTex:

* Java of typesetting * Amazing set of libraries and very useful if you work on relatively few well defined formats.

Insurance firms send a clear message- fuck with us and we completely ruin you.

And before anybody downvotes me- please inform yourself- not a single person had to pay a penny more than what they had to pay before the price increase, except the insurance firms.
