moge··on Review my startup: Tastebuds - dating for last.fm users
Just amazing user flow. I immediately sent this to my designer and said 'THIS is what we need to do'. Really great instant gratification and user acquisition flow. Agree with other comments about the gender icons. I had to pause for a second and think about which I was :)

Very well done. I will you tons of success!

moge··on Autofocus System - Get Everything Done
So, I'm sorry I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer here but basically his 'system' is; make a big long list, scan that list for things you want to do, ignore the things you don't want to do, do the thing(s) you 'feel' like doing and, when completed, draw a line through the thing you just did.

That qualifies as a 'system'?

moge··on Ask HN: hackernews coders have experience with high traffic web apps?
google James Golick http://jamesgolick.com/ He has some amazing conference lectures about how he scaled his 1.5million page view website.

moge··on So you want to start a web startup?
'out there' is a big scary place :)

I have and I have a few people offering to help and a few more offering to help - for a fee. The frustration comes with the problem that the people who offer to help never do and the people who I hire to help often move much slower than my patience can allow for. This is mostly due to the fact that I am broke and can only afford people who do this on the side.

Don't get me wrong it's not that I cannot program, thus solving my own problem, it's that after years of trying, learning and effort I still suck at programming. What takes me hours to do takes [you] minutes. That's hours away from everything else. Hours of frustration and hours of face-bashing.

I am actively attending meet-ups, I am here and numerous other places and I am actively 'socializing'.

The great irony is that it is easier to find users than it is to find a partner.

moge··on So you want to start a web startup?
heh, yeah it was :)

I REALLY need to find a partner who can program better than I can. My skills are wasted on hacking. Can get frustrating at times.

thank you, I was just having a down moment (rough day in startup-ville) and this totally made me laugh.
moge··on Ask HN: Taxes on App Store earnings
not a tax expert so won't touch 1 or 3 but as for #2 the answer is that there is no limit. Incorporating really just offers you protection. From a tax perspective filing as an LLC is no different that filing as a non-incorporated business. It's call 'pass through'. S or C corp would be bad as you would be double taxed. If you are thinking of incorporating you should as an LLC. From there you can start doing deductions, etc.
moge··on The Co-Founder Mythology - Mark Suster
Thanks for the feedback! Second time someone has mentioned doing a FB app. I had not considered that previously. I can see how doing that would give us a deep reach. Tying the data back to the site is also interesting. Thanks again for the feedback!
moge··on The Co-Founder Mythology - Mark Suster
Couldn't agree more. Stated this in a previous comment but I would much rather a salary taking (and potentially equity holding) first employee than a co-founder just for the sake of having a co-founder.
moge··on The Co-Founder Mythology - Mark Suster
So I am a single-founder. For me, and it is worth nothing that I have a sum total of 28 users on my site, it is not that I feel that I need a co-founder or even a partner. What I need is a collaborator!

Everyone, everyone, everyone says to me 'oh, your a single-founder. When are you going to get a co-founder?' I feel like a handmaiden sometimes.

All I really want, desperately need, is a collaborator, a mentor, a sounding board. If that person is co-founder so be it. Funding should be dependent on team and 'team' is not always a 'founder'.

...sorry I know that was slightly outside the scope of the topic, /rantoff.

Awesome. I'm looking forward to applying!
moge··on Offer HN: SEO Help
I second SEOMoz. First learned of them in Mixergy and I have found his blog to be a great resource.
moge··on Suggest HN:submission page site focus reminder
As a lurker and as someone who has never submitted to HN I can say that I was unaware that guidelines even existed. Yeah, I see them now at the bottom of the footer but I agree that adding, at the very least, a visible link on the submit page or as you suggested a summary could only be a good thing.
moge··on Offer HN: I'll make a decal for your startup.
Wow, Thank you so much for saying that! That is really amazing feedback. We just launched so hearing things like that is just, well, awesome :)
moge··on Offer HN: I'll make a decal for your startup.
pretty cool idea! We just launched (hangwith.me) and don't have an office...or car so we will save this offer for others but neat that you posted this!
moge··on Would WordPress Sue The Maker Of Thesis WordPress Theme? - Mixergy Interview
I gotta say, I was in the audience for this and it was stunning to hear. If you have not listened to the full audio it is well worth the listen. Huge props to Andrew for doing awesome moderation. This whole thing went down because his booked guest canceled so Andrew moderated this very heated discussion on the fly.
moge··on Question: Do you google facebook and click on the result?
heh I don't with Facebook but I do often do that. I use comcast so if I misspell a URL I get their completely useless 'search page' - incidentally that is powered by Yahoo which is why I don't use Yahoo anymore. Example of banding gone bad.
moge··on Ask HN: What's your most interesting life goal currently?
To write business book management lessons I learned while working for Oprah.
