mmrezaie··on Iran Will Begin Enriching Uranium at Higher Level in Days
A long history of troubled relationships requires people who know that history and react to it. Right now we have people who care only about their personal feelings/cockfight than what consequences those actions will have. Just imagine broken Iran (+ other failed nations in that region) with a middle eastern's definition of fascism in Saudi Arabia, Water and Global Warming issues in the future and boy now everyone is going to be in trouble.
mmrezaie··on Iran Will Begin Enriching Uranium at Higher Level in Days
Anything good coming out of this stopped at Trump's breaking the agreement. I am afraid we are delaying something very bad in that region.
mmrezaie··on Europe says 737 Max won't fly until it completes it own design review
I flied to Cyprus from Stockholm with Norwegian last week. On the plane it was written 737-800 or 737 Max. I wonder how you can tell them apart and if Norwegian uses the Max line!?
mmrezaie··on Intel Performance Hit 5x Harder Than AMD After Spectre, Meltdown Patches
I am excited. Can you give an example? Also, if there is any use for it in system software for it?
mmrezaie··on How to Fly the B-25 Mitchell Bomber (1944) [video]
I good pilot does this or that this or that way. I cannot imagine how the instructor could have put it in a better way of saying, this is the right/suggested way. Also, for some reason the guys voice is just right! Watching these videos may be my new guilty pleasure!
mmrezaie··on Databricks open-sources Delta Lake to make data lakes more reliable
What are the other alternatives for data lakes that can be used (both open source and close)?
mmrezaie··on ARM and Intel have different performance characteristics: a case study
I just wanted to thank you for this website. It is putting end to so many discussions we have about the quality of the code. Extra, it has a support for FORTRAN. Previously we were doing debug and disassembly ourselves.
mmrezaie··on AMD Ryzen 3rd Gen 'Matisse' Coming Mid 2019: Eight Core Zen 2 with PCIe 4.0
External GPUs and Asics. Also, this is a connection that can be shared and the more is probably the better since we all probably have notebooks and they all gonna not have most ports we need.
mmrezaie··on AT&T says it’ll stop selling location data amid calls for federal investigation
This is the same story in Sweden too. For a short period, I was part of the team, and we were being asked to see how we can answer some questions with the information for something around 10k peoples information in Spain and Portugal. The way they just handed us the data and their explanation of why this is not going to bite us back made me sick and I just left right away. But the mentality of how to use these data in the business should be taught to mainstream marketers. Obfuscation of these data to not pinpoint a single person is not something that is as robust as people may think. I can easily find myself in our neighborhood since I know some key points about myself!
mmrezaie··on Huge Leak Reveals AMD Ryzen 3000 Series Details
I thought 16 cores were too much for double channel memory! This is interesting indeed.
mmrezaie··on Stop adding cancer-causing chemicals to our bacon, experts tell meat industry
why is it bad for the animal. I mean we kill and eat them naturally, but why waste part of a food source which is already there?
mmrezaie··on Windows file access performance compared to Linux
and their response is even worst:

https://github.com/dotnet/cli/issues/10497#issuecomment-4494...

Sadly, I thought they would have fixed it and not ignore it.

mmrezaie··on Intel Publishes Microcode Patches, No Benchmarking or Comparison Allowed
at SC and CUG this year the main focus was that in less than 10 years IPC improvement is going to go away (I am not sure where IPC improvement was in the last three years). Anyway, the next step is to make CPUs as much heterogeneous as possible like a SOC. Both Intel and AMD are going there but we need to sit and see which direction is going get the momentom like what nVidia has done.
mmrezaie··on Microsoft Closes US Surface Factory, Moves Production to China
It is so sadly funny that the strongest economy in the world can be manipulated so deeply this fast and nothing happens. This makes me want to read more about the Mongols, Romans, and Persians history. This must be a great time to do analytical research on how to measure manipulation of the mainstream opinions about well anything. I like to see some good simulators on the matter. Maybe gaming industry can help!
mmrezaie··on Windows 10 vs. Linux Performance On AMD Threadripper 2990WX
And also we should keep in mind that in Kernel level improvements, Linux by far is agiler than Windows. Windows process scheduler does not have fairness for ages now. When was CFS was added to Linux? a decade?
mmrezaie··on Windows 10 vs. Linux Performance On AMD Threadripper 2990WX
One can confirm this which sounds true by profiling the benchmark tools on windows and Linux specifically, remote page loads and such.
mmrezaie··on India's first RISC-V based Chip is Here: Linux boots on Shakti processor
Why did they choose to not have RVC? Also, what happens if one of these groups working on RISC-V decides they need to add a couple of more instructions in there? Is there a group that you can send your patches for the review like Linux kernel? I do not understand the compatibility of the risc-v cpus!
mmrezaie··on Don’t buy System76 hardware and expect to get firmware updates from the LVFS
For my ThinkPad x1 they came to the restaurant I was fixed it in like 3 minutes (had to replace the CPU fan), like a ninja. But I still cannot update the BIOS from Linux with the fwup, and fingerprint reader doesn't work. I had XPS 15 and if it wasn't because of the horrid coil whine I would have kept it. Their linux support is very good.
mmrezaie··on E-waste recycler Eric Lundgren loses appeal on computer restore disks
After reading the article I still cannot see the ethical reasonaning for judging his actions and why they are criminalized!
mmrezaie··on Review: Purism Librem13 laptop
no, they are not in the same world. one of my colleagues has it and compared to my previous machine 2013 MacBook pro it doesn't compare but even with my Thinkpad x1 5th gen, I think mac still has a better touchpad. Mostly it is because of libinput probably. Never tried mac touchpad on Linux.
mmrezaie··on Review: Purism Librem13 laptop
interesting. This was the main reason I sent back my XPS 15. I had this problem especially in hjkl keys since I use emacs devil mode and my cursor was just jumping all over the place all of a sudden. This problem and the coil whine, but when I returned they didn't mention others have the same problem.
mmrezaie··on Facebook Employees Are Quitting or Switching Departments Over Ethical Concerns
I think the whole point of IQ test is being stable independent of age.
mmrezaie··on Tesla GPU Accelerator Bang for the Buck, Kepler to Volta
Yes. but I am not sure if Nvidia is pushing it yet. But at least in Linux, you have to apply some patches to enable passthrough for consumer GPUs.
mmrezaie··on Tesla GPU Accelerator Bang for the Buck, Kepler to Volta
In data centers, nvidia seems to want to limit usage of consumer products [1].

mmrezaie··on World justice project's amazing visualization
I was just comparing different countries in middle east. Iran vs. Pakistan. Iran is scoring higher but seems Iran's score is mostly because it is more stable and it is more secure and less internal conflicts. On the other hand, Pakistan's government is more Open, and it has more powerful military still they have less security and higher internal conflict. How Turkey in the region is changing is also interesting.

I wish this data had Saudi Arabia and Israel for the comparison of the region.

mmrezaie··on Talent vs. Luck: the role of randomness in success and failure
I Wonder if gaming models (like strategic game simulations) can help to visualize what we mean by luck. We can improve our luck or chance by education, taking chances, and etcetera. This is so easy to show in games (you stay passive you will be eaten by opponents, you go too aggressive the same result).
mmrezaie··on How Apple is paving the way to a ‘cloud dictatorship’ in China
> Yes.

I am not sure how you can know that. I am actually sure Apple would have lost some market but not much and there could have been stuff they could do to let it happen rather than now just giving up everything to any authoritarian government.

Maybe Apple could have gained some respect and then market share if they would have stood firm. With this new management, Apple has become just focused on business (income) not what they were known to be passionate about.

mmrezaie··on ISP Spying
Is there a portal like-place to share our findings of ISPs generally in the world so that others can work together with better transparency?

I do data analytics and data engineering and a couple of months ago indirectly I have been contacted by an ISP in Spain and they literally were collecting every bit of data that their customers were seeing on internet (websites, timestamps, how much data were transferred and etcetera with the user's id and basically in another table name and address). I was shocked how easy they were talking about it. I didn't accept but for sure someone has done it! I never heard the name of the ISP, I wish I didn't bark at them so fast and I could collect more information about them.

mmrezaie··on Exploiting modern microarchitectures: Meltdown, Spectre, and other attacks [pdf]
Oh, Sorry I just realized this is the new version of Okular that does it (adding the number of the slide on top corner and auto hiding it). I thought it is the PDF file feature. Unfortunately, I cannot remove my post! Just switched to KDE and I was not used to seeing the slide counter.
mmrezaie··on Pyramid schemes causing social harm in China – crackdowns may not be working
The same thing is happening in Iran. I didn't know it still exists but then I just learned that it is so rampant that Iranian shopping companies may very much start their pyramid section of their business officially very soon. More than anything I think we should have a proper education for the public about this. Funny thing is employees some of these companies hire have to pay the company if they wanna work in there, and the company that I am talking about had something close to 20 people working in there as far as I could see!
