Making compliance survivable for small teams at humadroid.io. Used our own platform to get SOC 2 - because dogfooding is the ultimate viability test. Past life: built Prograils.com, sold it to Jobandtalent, did the corporate thing for a bit.

mlitwiniuk··on Apple WWDC 2015
Supposedly that possible, but the real question is, if this still will be the case in 10.12? This concern was posted by someone somewhere few versions back, when they introduced code signing explicite allowance for apps not signed properly. This is next step. And as long, as I agree - security is important, judging on their past decisions, they may try to close their ecosystem (but hey, it's "their" hardware and software, their game and their rules - one can always decide not to buy Apple anymoe).
mlitwiniuk··on Apple WWDC 2015
I'm quite scared, that they will in fact introduce so called "Rootless" kernel-level security - not beeing able to do everything with my computer would be a problem for me and I will definitelly consider switching to ie. Dell XPS with some linux on board.
mlitwiniuk··on Apple WWDC 2015
That would be too awesome. This is in fact the main reason why Surface Pro looks so tempting. iPad is gread device, but not beeing able to code on it is it's main problem (although I still love my device)
mlitwiniuk··on Django 1.8 and Python 3: Complex app tutorial, end-to-end
(shameless self promotion) we've just released something similar, but for Ruby on Rails - https://prograils.com/courses/saas/ch/01-the-welcome-word - our plan is to make step-by-step tutorial on creating quite complex todo-like saas app.
mlitwiniuk··on Purple – Heroku UI Kit
I doubt if they care about copycats. At first glance I thought - "WTF? Why they publish this and do not make it Open Source". But after a while I think it's good for few reasons: - it can be inspiring for others - in terms of usability, typography, etc - it illustrates how to make good spec for your company / employees and avoid this "i-just-saw-nice-plugin-lets-use-it" behaviour - at some point this illustrates company`s culture - this shows how "organized" and "enterprisy" they are - I do belive, that there are still some people who judge herokus website and think, that this must be some kind of smaller hosting company for ones pet projects
mlitwiniuk··on StandupMail: Keep your team up-to-date
Actually we've taken this to the next level with https://teamlens.io/ - and as email may be good way of reporting your progress, it's a bit obsolete + it requires actual "answering" to it, so it (it my opinion) adds extra complecity to the whole process (it's hard to give status "in real time" or whenever you want it during the day). We'll be launching next week or so (hopefully).
mlitwiniuk··on Ask HN: What project would you work on if you had half a year of free time?
I would definitelly go for SaaS app for more comprehensive team / company management. I'm building something now (http://teamlens.io), but I do not have full year to commit. It would be really awesome to work stress-free on something. Anything that could profit in future, but without everyday stress (I run software house and hire > 10 people - it tends to generate abnormal amounts of stress from time to time).
mlitwiniuk··on Simple web-focused Docker-based mini-PaaS server
Same here. I'm waiting for clean and nie solution to utilize all spare hardware, I have in my company. It would be great to have simple PaaS running on one machine, it would be awesome to utilize them all. If someone could give me step-by-step instructions / solution how to do this, I would really pay for that (or support open source, if that's the case).
mlitwiniuk··on The Best Programmer in the World is the One Having the Most Fun
So true. It's simple - playing aroung does open ones mind. It's that simple and that hard. But it requires passion - no one will be able to force himself for side project and even if he do, no lesson will be learned. I observe it all the time across my coworkers - those, who like play around with related technologies, are getting better all the time.
mlitwiniuk··on Show HN: Building an App Business, My Self Published Book
To make my point more clear - my intention was not criticizing you, or doubting in your competences - from potential buyers point of view, if would be nice to have this informations somewhere on landing page. I did check your "background" before writing above comment and in my opinion you could add some more info, that would make you more trustworthy for visitors from outside of HN.
mlitwiniuk··on Show HN: Building an App Business, My Self Published Book
I would love to see some of your background, ie. what made you competent to write such book. Some info regarding content would be also a nice to have - I know, what your book covers, but how is it structured? How many pages it has?
mlitwiniuk··on Ask HN: How can I make HackerNode App better?
I'm using HNode App on iPad and I have sometimes terrible problems with opening target website - it would be great if I could change default behaviour of clicking on list item - it should be changeable if it opens comments or website. Also - it took me ages to find "send to" button (red (+), on the bottom of article preview) - in my opinion it's totally unintuitive, that instapaper / fb / twitter is placed there - they should be available through right bottom menu - just by "open in safari" / "copy link buttons".
mlitwiniuk··on One app, one user, one ruby
For some time I always create user deploy and install nginx through passenger on rbenv (if there is only one app on server) or create separate user per app and run everything using rbenv+unicorn+nging from apt. Works flawlessly. I can't agree more, that reating chef recipe is step forward.
mlitwiniuk··on Ruby Code Analysis Tools and Practices
I did knew only few of them, so it's nice, someone covered this many tools.
mlitwiniuk··on Rails Rumble is Complete - Judge the Entries
I've created app for sharing code scraps (snippets) across group/organization. Made just be me, aims to solve real problem, that we have at my company. http://scrapsapp.com/
mlitwiniuk··on How to beat comment spam
Idea is good for massive/popular spam bots. But... well... I've been there and I know, that spam bots evolve if only there is someone, who can tune bot a little. So changing bot from looking for submit button into just submiting form is quite easy. Also - technology goes forward and there's no big problem today to write bot, that understand JavaScript. And as I have mentioned this - the best solution, I've found to fight spam bots is to create hidden (or visible, what the hell) field with initial value, that's later changed by JavaScript. Checking for value, you expect it to be set by bot works like a charm. But - as long as you say, that this solution works, it's worth mentioning and remembering.
mlitwiniuk··on Why the World Needs Another Git Repository Hosting Service
Gitlab team is making great software - basicaly they've copied what's best in Github and released it to the world allowing you to set up your own git hosting service (accessible only by your team). In my opinion it's great piece of software as long, as you don't want to share your code with anyone out there (beside your teammates). Ergo - it's better imo for students, as long, as they have machine that will be able to host it (VPS basically).
mlitwiniuk··on GNOME 3.6 released
It's nice to see Gnome is more than alive with over 1100 people commiting since previous version.
mlitwiniuk··on Memory-efficient XML parser that yields Ruby objects
Nice one. But in few words - what makes it better than Nokogiri::XML::SAX::Document from which you inherit?
mlitwiniuk··on Show HN: A date range picker for Twitter Bootstrap
I was looking for such thing for last few hours :D Thanks for great job, I really appreciate. And one more thing - have you thought about pledgie? Because this is one of those plugins, that I would really love to donate + it saved me hours of work.
mlitwiniuk··on Valve Source Engine Running Faster on Linux than Windows
Yes, that was exactly my point. Thanks for clarifying. And by the "revolution" I meant, that this may be beginning of serious user migration from Windows to Linux. Of course, there is Ubuntu, Linux for human beeings, some people do use it, but it's still "some", small number, that you do not take under consideration when planning/developing a game.
mlitwiniuk··on Valve Source Engine Running Faster on Linux than Windows
Yeah. And one of anti-linux arguments for Windows fans is just getting killed - gemes do run on Linux. If this experiment will be a success for Valve, we only can wait for other game producers to follow their steps. And taking under consideration that not everybody is going to like Windows 8, this can be a beginning of revolution!
mlitwiniuk··on Phusion Passenger Enterprise released
+1 for ETA. Also - there is one thing more, that is unclear - I know, that you will not limit functionality of OS Passenger and it's still fully legit to use current version, but it would be great, if you could exclusively mark it somewhere, that this wouldn't be unclear. Or just create some kind of FAQ. You know - after all MANY people are using your software and once you've decided to start offering paid version, there are doubts about future etc
mlitwiniuk··on Phusion Passenger Enterprise released
Maybe you could create some kind of comparission table? Because it take some time now to understand what for I'm supposed to be paying for (and as long as passenger runs on few of my servers, it would be my pleasure to thank you for passenger by buying a license).
mlitwiniuk··on Leadership, Strategy and Qt
It's very sad, but after signing partnership with M$ what did they expect?
mlitwiniuk··on Don't worry, use Happy. The new Ruby web framework.
First pet project created in it (https://github.com/prograils/css2ap), framework looks really promising for tiny webapps. What I really like is this simple and straightforward flow control.
mlitwiniuk··on Ask HN: Why is Apple ripping of European users? 1€ ≠ 1$
Summing it up - EU prices have VAT included and exchange rate is best possible for Apple in long term perspective. But correct me if I'm wrong - if you buy Macbook in Apple store in US their adding some kind of local tax, right?

Also - if you're running a company in EU you can refund overpaid VAT, right? So the only difference is, that currency exchange rate is worst possible.
