mkrishnan··on Ask HN: Why do you own Tesla stock?
I had the similar doubts when valuation passed GM and I regret for that now. you will never know what will happen.
mkrishnan··on What do you dislike about C# Winforms?
Nothing. They work fine.
mkrishnan··on Ruby on Rails: Still the Best Web App Framework for Most Teams
I forgot to mention Hadoop/hdfs/elixir/<fancy-tech-relesed-last-week> ...
mkrishnan··on Ruby on Rails: Still the Best Web App Framework for Most Teams
What? looks like you don't really understand the power of aws/serverless/Kubernetes/kafka/cassandra/graphql/react. when your app becomes instant hit after featuring in the frontpage of HN, you will have 1 billion daily active users and your business goes into flames because of new workload.
mkrishnan··on Tech Startups Say New Pay Rules for H-1B Visas Are Unaffordable
Here is the requirement from gov website for H1B

"The H-1B program applies to employers seeking to hire nonimmigrant aliens as workers in specialty occupations or as fashion models of distinguished merit and ability."

For companies looking for extraordinary talent, this rule boon.

Companies tring to hire cheap labour will have difficult time facing the new rule.

mkrishnan··on Ask HN: What wiki does your team use?
Why don’t you create your own? If you have something difficult to manage in Trello cards and you really care about contents then probably you should create your own or fork a open source one.
mkrishnan··on Show HN: Convert your Google Slides to high-quality animated GIFs and tweet
Nice idea.

but i people would not want to give you permission to see their google drive files - may be add another option like, have people make their slide public and use that url to create GIF.

mkrishnan··on Ask HN: Which book had the biggest impact on your personality?
"The monk who sold his Ferrari".

It helped me quit smoking and run 2 marathons.

mkrishnan··on Ask HN: I got laid off, how should I use my time to work on my startup idea?
Take a part time job (~20hrs/week) and work on your startup idea on the side.
mkrishnan··on How I legally got scammed for $250 by an upscale apartment complex
Well. That doesn't justify one way $150 administration fee
mkrishnan··on Show HN: OneView Calendar – My zoomable calendar app just got a big facelift
Wow
mkrishnan··on Ask HN: Which cloud provider to use in 2017? Azure, AWS or GCE?
It's 2017. You may not need cloud provider since hard drive and processor costs are way below than it was few years ago. It would be cheaper in the long run.
mkrishnan··on Show HN: Key/Value Store as-a-Service
supports CORS?
mkrishnan··on I’m Joining LinkedIn
Ember is a great framework and equally as powerful and popular like angular or react. yet its developed by just a bunch of guys on their free time unlike other frameworks which had huge enterprise support. I hope tom leverages the linkedin support and take ember to next level.
mkrishnan··on Use "App folder" access type instead of "Full Dropbox"
Its very convenient for them to use backward compatibility as an excuse. but in reality its simply not true. they can implement the change totally transparent to the user. have seen people do crazy things with dropbox integration in on 2 day hackathan's. in this case of moving the storage to app folder, shouldn't take more than coupe of weeks for an junior engineer. only things is whether you are willing to do it nor not. Apparently agile bits are not willing to do. (who would't like to access entire dropbox folder of the users ;) )

Keep in mind that, since dropbox did not have app folder concept initially, many companies used to have access to entire dropbox then moved to app folder model later. they did not break backward compatibility and they didn't make the excuses.

mkrishnan··on Use "App folder" access type instead of "Full Dropbox"
Without users your product is nothing regardless of how great your product is. You are nothing without your users. You are what you are because of your users. Many companies forget that Agilebit is one of them. Throwing your users under the bus just because you can is not acceptable.

As someone done Dropbox integration for many of my clients, I know how easy it is to implement app folders.

I know it and you know it. We all know what kind of game agilebit is playing here.

mkrishnan··on Use "App folder" access type instead of "Full Dropbox"
Asking AgileBit to NOT ask for entire dropbox storage is not a UNREASONABLE request.

Looks like AgileBit is really really nosy about what users has stored in their dropbox. and just hate to lose the luxury to access every data stored by user.

Read the Pilor's (from AgileBit) response. she gives a link to article which talks about "How to sync 1Password with Dropbox" but she lies that the article details "Why 1Password needs full access".

mkrishnan··on Show HN: Serverless Single Page Applications
Looks very similar to backliftapp which provided Dropbox sync.

how can a user take periodical backup of data?

mkrishnan··on Xamarin's store-page just changed its pricing
RoboVM also owned by Xamarin, not sure they are making it free
mkrishnan··on Show HN: Trackburnr – track data in GitHub-commit-style heatmaps
This is a awesome idea. Some of the cases I am thinking is: track the days you drink or exercise or eating out and thinks like that. Or tracking the mood.

This is something I would be willing to pay to use. Provide data export as well.

Instead of saying 'track data', use the real term like 'track drinking days' or something like that.

mkrishnan··on Ask HN: How do you regularly upgrade java libraries in huge code bases?
You should always have sufficient unit tests and integration tests for your code base. so that you can confidently upgrade all your libraries whenever you want if the tests pass.
mkrishnan··on Ask HN: Staffing company asking lots of personal details for a contract job.
No they did not mention clearance
mkrishnan··on Ask HN: Staffing company asking lots of personal details for a contract job.
Thanks for the information. They never mentioned anything about clearance. The end client is a big telecom company. Rate is not finalized and this is a 12 month contract (w2). And the staffing agency is also big company.
