mjcurl··on JavaScript dates are about to be fixed
How do other languages handle this? Do they take the timezones database from the OS, which keeps it updated?
mjcurl··on JavaScript dates are about to be fixed
Surprising it took this long. I think timezones were missing in earlier versions of Python as well. I wonder why they weren't considered.
mjcurl··on Show HN: I Improved My Problem Website Based on Your Feedback
Great changes. I didn't sign up and closed the site without seeing any problems last time. This time I'm much more likely to sign up.
mjcurl··on The Pirate Bay Trial
Just read this the other day. Is there an update to how the pirate bay is doing now?
mjcurl··on Foone Finds a NUC
Sounds like fun. Where do you pick up stuff from an ewaste?
mjcurl··on Pakistan blames users for slow internet as firewall rumours grow
It's more of the same, crushing some basic right and gaslighting people. Can the mass use of VPNs even have an effect on a country's internet speed?
mjcurl··on Ask HN: What VPN Are You Using and Why?
Has anyone used Mozilla VPN?
mjcurl··on Ask HN: Where to Start with SEO in 2024?
I think going over the official google guide is a decent start.

mjcurl··on TV set has become a digital billboard. And it's only getting worse
I bought a Hisense tv last year and I think I haven't seen an ad once (barring YouTube ads).
mjcurl··on Ask HN: Self Hosting Projects?
This is probably the best way to achieve what you're after. You can even have an SQLite database running to store data in the browser.
mjcurl··on Ask HN: Self Hosting Projects?
Something tangentially related I came across recently. https://docs.puter.com/
mjcurl··on The Potential Pitfalls of Pagination
I've been facing the issue of shifting data with the eBay browse api. Unfortunately they don't offer ID based pagination. What's the best way to deal with it, manually track queried data yourself?
mjcurl··on Do you guys ship in weeks or months?
I've been working on two new related projects. Started them a week ago. I plan to ship one next week.

I think commitment to the goal is important. I've made timelines for it to keep me on track. I tend to lose interest if something goes on for too long.

mjcurl··on How to De-Google your life: List of private Google alternatives
This is a good list, but under alternatives to Gmail, only tuta mail is listed. I know you should market your own product, but a list of other alternatives would make for a better, less subjective piece.
mjcurl··on Show HN: Another boilerplate that will save you time

mjcurl··on World of Warcraft is the freshest it's been in years – thanks to WoW Classic
A mention for Old School RuneScape as well, which is the classic version of RuneScape. It's popularity is only growing, eclipsing the main game, and has a dedicated team working on constantly improving the game.
mjcurl··on Toothpaste Null-Terminator
This is a much simpler way. Now only to remember to do it next time I get groceries.
mjcurl··on Space beer may taste better than Earth beer
I could see some brewery replicating this and marketing it as space beer. I would definitely like to try it, though I'm not sure I'd be able to taste the difference.
mjcurl··on Are you better than a language model at predicting the next word?
5/15, so the same as choosing the most common word.

I think I did worse when the prompt is shorter. It just becomes a guessing game then and I find myself thinking more like a language model.
