mitxela··on What happened to the Snowden archive
I still don't understand what the comment means.

Individual freedom absolutism is best refered to as "libertarianism" right now. Which, btw, is a label the right appropriated and the left gave up.

Because they didn't have to do an ISP block. If they had to, they would have.

mitxela··on Raspberry Pi 5 EEPROM update now blocks manual RAM upgrades
It's not reasonable. Every company uses a similar "consumer safety" excuse for all its locking down. It's why you can't install apps on iPhones. It's why you can't upgrade the RAM on your laptop. It's why you can't replace your battery when it wears out. It's why your car door won't open if you replace the door handle. It's carefully manipulated PR bullshit in every case.

Like that time OpenClaw emailed death threats to open source maintainers who called it slop, that mysteriously has now dropped off Google?

Sources that.... don't post the things people are trying to read?

Besides, if it's free, you're the product.

Isn't that accusation, if true, just a case of FAFO?

I'm not sure if you're aware but Spain is part of the Schengen free travel area.

We already have. These foreign misinformation actors we're talking about have already convinced a majority of the voting population that democracy is bad, and they have voted to end democracy, and now democracy is in the process of ending.

This could have been prevented by blocking foreign misinformation.

We tried that, it didn't work.

the term "net neutrality" doesn't really mean anything anyway

It's escalated to tyranny - blocking half the internet - in an alleged attempt to block petty football piracy. If your country installed cameras everywhere to "deter kidnapping" wouldn't you feel that was tyrannical?

This has resulted in a lot of them blocking VPNs because Russia blocks VPNs at the backbone level.

The US already blocked Polymarket long ago and replaced it with a neutered US version. They know everyone uses VPNs to get around this, so they're trying to force the US version to be the only worldwide version.

Because they're not terminally online and don't know why this is bad. But they do know that making the rich less rich is bad, just like in the US.

Europe retains more counterculture than the US does, but not enough.

The "random guy" referred to in your allegation is, btw, not a random guy, but someone who was trying to help the US intelligence agencies imprison the owner of archive.is a la Snowden or Assange.

Browsers should change that page to say "someone is hacking your internet" with red background and giant warning sign, when certain certificates are received.

The same thing would happen on any platform. Social media diverged from the web a while ago - accessing it through web is like accessing Usenet through Google Groups. Its native environment is the corresponding non-web phone apps.

Liberal doesn't mean supporting liberty, it means some interpolation between supporting free markets (neoliberal means just this one), and pretending that as long as we just follow the established institutional norms everything is fine and there is no need for radical change. It's synonymous right now for "centrist" - note that political labels drift over time.

archive.is is the best substitute. For some reason people here won't accept that. They think the internet is still a calm cooperative place like the olden days.
