miltonlost··on Starbase, LA
Kennedy is also surrounded my federally protected land. SpaceX? Noooope. Never trust Elon.
miltonlost··on How much of HN is AI?
All the god damn pelican spam
miltonlost··on How much of HN is AI?
One AI psychotic's "barely able to register" is another person's "increasing ambient temperature".
miltonlost··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
> Even the government deems it infeasible.

Because they are underfunded often.

miltonlost··on Coding expertise is going to collapse from AI reliance
"Mental math skills" literally did collapse tho??? "Math skills" to write proofs (which a calculator cannot do) is a fundamentally different skill set than that "math skills" of mechanically doing arithmetic (which a calculator does do).

Seems like critical reading skills have already collapsed.

miltonlost··on Andreessen Horowitz is investing billions into a bleak future
When the DoJ is non-independent and the President is a literal crook and grifter, legality doesn't matter anymore to companies. They won't be prosecuted as long as they don't screw over the rich.
miltonlost··on Hook, hold, harvest and hide: Meta's alleged strategy laid out in first week
We have rule of law here? have you seen the non-independent DOJ today? The Supreme court's rubber stamp and bribed justices? Trump's blatant illegalities?

(Yes, Clarence Thomas has been bribed. That's what the RV and the trips are.)

miltonlost··on Hook, hold, harvest and hide: Meta's alleged strategy laid out in first week
You misread that first quote in your defense of Meta. The twirly mustached exec is Zuck himself who wants to target 11 year olds. By having a person object to him, he's no longer evil???
miltonlost··on Hook, hold, harvest and hide: Meta's alleged strategy laid out in first week
Sounds like a lot of successful businesses should be shut down then if Meta is the result of what "any" business does.
miltonlost··on Digging the grave of my skills: Hollywood creatives training AI to do their jobs
This is how my job in tech is right now. Execs asking us to build systems and agents and subagents so they can just input figma designs and their flawed requirements and get rid of all labor. How does a person not hate themselves doing this work that's effectively existential suicide? Every word into claude is another word of my career's death note.
miltonlost··on Felony Bench
"Doing crimes, but a robot didn't mean to and you don't know its intent" is understating the evil acts. Soon a robot can commit a murder but nothing will be done because of your line of reasoning.
miltonlost··on AI boosted homework scores, then exam scores dropped: study
> You don’t need to be able to memorize something for an exam to show mastery of a topic.

Yes, you do need to memorize and know things about the subject in order to be a master of it. What is the definition of "mastery" that you are using? What are the Things being memorized?

miltonlost··on Stop eating Lady Gaga's Oreos
> The internet decapitated art criticism, elevating the YouTube commenter to the same level as the Pitchfork editor.

Part of that issue is people think "reviews" and "criticism" is one and the same. Ideally, a critic places the artwork in appropriate historical context and provides analysis. But most people just want Numbers or THumbs Ups.

miltonlost··on Wikimedia Foundation refuses union recognition, hires union-busting law firm
LMAO. Management? Accountable? Golden parachutes say hi
miltonlost··on On the non-use of AI in my writing process
How does a tiny error, in an aside and unrelated to the greater point, made at near the end discredit the rest of it?
miltonlost··on Ten advances in mathematics and theoretical computer science
We know how to solve food insecurity (in 1st world countries). We have plenty of food. Capitalism requires though throwing out food that can't be sold because billionaires find giving away things anathemic to their worldview. Get rid of billionaire sociopaths.
miltonlost··on Is AI reasoning right for the wrong reasons?
> I'll admit that I find this discussion a bit navel-gazy. It has become a question of semantics not a question of actual functionality

Ah, so you're more in the Investor mindset than the Scientist mindset. All you care about is results, not how it got there. There's a whiff of "hey, it's magic!" to that.

miltonlost··on Patreon laying off 20% of staff
The corollary to 2 is: reduce all CEO pay across the board because of how disproportionate it is.
miltonlost··on Alphabet's cash burn raises alarm for Big Tech as AI spending climbs
My company is remaking its career ladder to emphasize agentic coding just in time for this.
miltonlost··on OverpAId – Fire your CEO. Hire the future
That CEO is sure sticking a lot of shelves themself to provide value
miltonlost··on A graph that should be front-page news
Communication about truth is also hard when against decades of industry, talk radio, right-wing media, and Republican propaganda lying about the climate. And humans, with very little scientific or critical thinking skills, felt comfort in the lie that "everything is ok!". Getting past a person's discomfort in order for them to accept truth is a high hill.
miltonlost··on ChatGPT Work
That graph of internal adoption rate is laughable. Their KPIs and work requirements probably heavily skewed the curve.
miltonlost··on Dua Lipa opens library for banned and censored books in Portugal
The same people who think "banned" and "censored" books must be completely banned and censored in all places to have earned that title instead of just at one point in the past.
miltonlost··on 98% isn't much
You cut off the OP's sentence of that being examples for "Rail companies" and then added your own examples. Please be better at comprehesion and editing comments

"In practice Amazon will deliver packages across the US." You know they use the Postal Service for last miles often? And the Postal Service is required by law to service far-flung places. So Amazon is only, in practice, delivering packages to those places due to USPS.

miltonlost··on 98% Isn't Much
"Whether something is good or not entirely depends on the frame of reference and the context" is exactly what the article was saying....
miltonlost··on 98% isn't much
Yes, the article discusses how 98% is good in context and bad in others. You just... restated the article but reversed the premise, resulting in an overly optimistic yet anti-social framing.
miltonlost··on How Kalshi Infects the News
Sure lets act like Republicans aren't overwhelmingly corrupt at the head
miltonlost··on How Kalshi Infects the News
Some states are trying to fight against Kalshi. One of the problems is the President's family has a financial interest in these markets and so the Republican party does their best to say "hey, these are clearly "swaps" and not bets!!!1!"

Or we could also ban sports betting apps and Kalshi and Polymarket.
