miloshadzic··on Eve: Programming designed for humans
This "for humans" shit has to stop.
miloshadzic··on Apple giveth, and Apple taketh away – the Escape key
I think he means that Linux email clients are not that good, and Apple Mail is pretty decent.
miloshadzic··on Books Programmers Don't Really Read (2008)
I'd never bash CLRS but people suggest in strange situations. It's definitely not a good introduction to algorithms. It does makes sense as a reference and of course as a course textbook. As a book to actually read, Kleinberg/Tardos is much better.
miloshadzic··on Making Humans a Multiplanetary Species [video]
You would enjoy this game: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BioShock
miloshadzic··on Now that anyone can be a DJ, is the art form dead?
Can't really be a pure function if it's changing state
miloshadzic··on Now that anyone can be a DJ, is the art form dead?
Because you're playing according to your current sentiment and not crowd pleasing.
miloshadzic··on Tabs or spaces – Parsing a 1B files among 14 programming languages
Pretty sure it was a joke...
miloshadzic··on Ecological Wealth of Nations
Here you go, straight from Zardoz.
miloshadzic··on Ecological Wealth of Nations
"Ideal" growth of an economy is 3%. Growth takes resources(fossil fuels, ore, etc). Compound growth takes more and more resources over the whole planet. Free market fundamentalism means we're not investing so heavily into alternative sources but burning what we've got. Compound that 3% and it's just a metter when we'll be fucked unless things change a lot.
miloshadzic··on Ecological Wealth of Nations
I'd take it step by step: Step 1 is to launch your friend into space.
miloshadzic··on Ecological Wealth of Nations
Interesting how migrating to space is more "Real" than changing how we use resources.
miloshadzic··on Ask HN: What book have you given as a gift?
The Art of Computer Programming
miloshadzic··on Ask HN: What was your “Why didn't I stop doing this sooner?” moment?
There's nothing wrong with gaming, but from your other post I gather you spend a lot of time with computers(like everyone else here), so try to find something that's low tech and involves other people. Gaming is like drugs, it's fine if you occasionally partake, but no-one likes an addict.
miloshadzic··on Economic Reality
The rich are already paying taxes in other countries so it's like they already left...
miloshadzic··on Alicia Keys is done playing nice. Your phone is getting locked up now
It's not about me, it's about the artist, and I sure as hell hope they get a say in how an event gets experienced. That's part of the art.
miloshadzic··on Alicia Keys is done playing nice. Your phone is getting locked up now
Or you can, you know, just enjoy the show without your phone...
miloshadzic··on The End of Reflection
We were writing out our own thoughts before the internet and also cutting the length down(see graffiti, sms).

Being exposed is not the same as being constantly bombarded with new content. By the way, you're not really being exposed to that differing views as Google, Facebook, etc are putting you inside a bubble filled with things you like.

Moderation is hard when companies are working hard to make you use their tech as much as possible (more looking, more clicking -- more money).

miloshadzic··on Introducing power saving mode in Opera for computers
I used to do something similar. Nowadays I put stuff I want to read into <insert fav read later service> and read them later if I'm not going to do it right away.
miloshadzic··on Introducing power saving mode in Opera for computers
Many tabs is not a hundred tabs. You can't really manage a hundred tabs. Try using bookmarks and a search engine.
miloshadzic··on Introducing power saving mode in Opera for computers
A classic example of finding a technical solution to a human problem. If you have a hundred tabs open, you're problem is the hundred tabs and not your browser.
miloshadzic··on Today I accept that Rails is yesterday’s software
It's today's software which -- being almost a synonym for enterprise software -- can be a problem for a culture built on it's difference from Enterprise Java.
miloshadzic··on Berlin Is Banning Most Vacation Apartment Rentals
This is among the dumbest things I've ever read on HN.
miloshadzic··on How quitting my corporate job for my startup dream f*cked my life up
Posts like these are the new infomercial.
miloshadzic··on Why Software Outsourcing Doesn't Work Anymore
That's just not true. For one you're not factoring in the cost to hire, monthly tax on that salary etc. I doubt a good developer earns less than 4k gross in say Paris.

My other problem with this line of thinking is this idea that you are getting less for that 4k than if you were to hire someone from the US. There are extremely capable people around the world with excellent communication skills and if you're looking at it with this attitude you will just miss out on this talent.

miloshadzic··on Monsti – a free and open source CMS written in Go
Not written in Go but look into OpenSMTPD[1].

miloshadzic··on How to Find, Hire, and Retain Developers – Interview with Cal Evans
Not agreeing or disagreeing but I don't think he meant what do you need to survive but after he goes on to say that it means "what do you need to be happy with this job".
miloshadzic··on Ask HN: How do you deal with professional jealousy and getting older?
false dichotomy alert
miloshadzic··on KDE Ships First Beta of Next Generation Plasma Workspace
Probably all of the options waste a lot of screen by default. Elementary would be an exception. I was thinking more about just general polish.
miloshadzic··on KDE Ships First Beta of Next Generation Plasma Workspace
It is the most polished Linux desktop IMO.
miloshadzic··on Breaking Half of the Telegram Contest
It's even more difficult when alternatives are so scarce. For example TextSecure doesn't exist for iOS.
